The biggest change in his attitude this offseason is his genuine excitement. He really believes this is a team he can coach and have success with. Makes me even more eager to get the new season under way.

You can also add the fact that JB improved our blueline which will be better defensively. JB made vast improvements in all the criticized areas. It now has the balance of offense, defence, and grit that is needed to win. While none of the added names carry the strength of a name like Panaren, I believe Miller, Ferland, and Myers will be effective in their respective roles and will be key reasons why this team makes the playoffs. In fact, I don't believe they will just make the playoffs but could challenge for the Pacific crown.

After watching his amazing rookie season and how well he dealt with relentless media, I think we all can agree that this kid is mature beyond his years. He doesn't strike me as the type that would miss the mark as to where he needs to be physically and mentally. I am very confident he will come to camp ready in both aspects to, once again tear up the league and improve on what was an exciting rookie debut. Many are worried about the sophomore jinx but, given the new weapons JB has added and a full season of Quinn Hughes, Petey has a lot more options for go to's. I don't see a drop off in his production but a dramatic improvement.

[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
komodo0921 replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Totally agree. Last season he played a very protected, offensive friendly role with more than 77% offensive zone starts. This should be a red flag as to how much TG trusts his al round game and leads me to wonder why he didn't put up more pnts. By comparison, Bo made 52% of his starts in the defensive zone, played in all situations, and still managed to keep pace with Brocks offensive numbers. Bo makes 5.5 mil. per season. It's tough to justify paying Brock more than your best all round player and, very possibly, next captain. I, also, see his passive play as a liability and may prove to be a huge fault as we start to make playoff appearances. We all know that as playoff races become tighter, they also become more intense and grindy. Refs tend to put away the whistles more and the meaner side of the game is allowed to rise. Winning a Stanley Cup is about determination, conviction and a willingness to go beyond ones comfort zone to make a key play or to get dirty when needed. I don't see any of that in Boesers game and that makes me wary of his future success. -
(Proposal/Discussion) Loui Eriksson
komodo0921 replied to JeremyCuddles's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
By the way that deal went; Is it legal to trade a percentage of a players cap rather than dropping the player all together. ie. Lukas Jasek, a 4th rounder and 50% of eriksson's cap for a 7th rounder. -
[Proposal] Edmonton and Vancouver

I don't think Sutter's going anywhere until he proves he's 100% healthy. Salary retention is probably going to be a factor as well. -
[Proposal] Loui Erickson trade
komodo0921 replied to canuckistani's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I have to respectfully disagree. I believe he rides out his contract and may look at going home after it's completion. One thing Utica should do is open his eyes to more oportunities at the NHL level. But I don't believe the price to get him out is going to cheapen. I also believe that if he's still Vancouver property in October that he is Utica bound. We will only save 1,000,000.00 in capspace but the real value is the open roster spot. -

I don't know that he does. Even in Utica he's making a big paycheck. Giving up 9,000,000.00 in salary that you're not getting anywhere else would be a tough thing to give up. I know I wouldn't; even if I had already made the money he has. That bus would be pretty comfortable. -
[Proposal] Loui Erickson trade
komodo0921 replied to canuckistani's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The Loui Eriksson situation will not be resolved without giving up someone of significance. Some have offered quantity in place of quality thinking that gms are fools with no experience and will take anything we offer. All these proposals involvng spare parts, players who've not met expectations, or retained salary are not going to work for any of the parties involved. A 3 year, 6,000,000.00 cap-hit for an underachieving, aged player is a serious undertaking for any team. Though the actual money owed is significantly less (which I believe he is worth), the cap-hit still hurts and will continue to hurt for 3 years. I think the ultimate goal in any Eriksson deal should be to rid the team of the whole cap-hit and not retain anything. I have two options to launch fire at both of which involve the same trade partner. 1. Eriksson,Virtanen, 2020/2021 unprotected 1st, and a conditional 3rd to New Jersey for a low round pick 2020. (the conditional 3rd comes into play only if New Jersey has to wait until 2021 to get their 1st rounder due to Tampa getting our 2020 protected pick). 2. Eriksson and Boeser to New Jersey for a 2020/2021 protected 1st New Jersey has the space to take on either deal. In deal 1, we lose a significant draft pick, which is further amplified by the fact that we won't have a 1st round pick until 2022, barring any deal that gets us one back. In deal1, however, we keep our big four (Petey, Horvat, Hughes, Boeser) in tact. In deal 2 we lose one of our big four but get a significant return. I value Boeser as more than a sweetener. He's a real deal top-six forward who's going to be a valuable part of their lineup far past the Eriksson contract. I think the 1st rounder is a fair ask. Both deals offer great value to them and achieve the goal of dumping the Eriksson contract. Losing Boeser would not be the most desired option but JB's gathered a wealth of forward talent that, imo, can fill Boeser's absence. Gaudette may even be a great RW option. We do get a valuable pick which doesn't make losing Boeser a total loss. Who Knows? Maybe in 2021, New Jersey's still a lottery team. In both cases, my opinion of what type of price is going to be required to move Eriksson, should be adequately demonstrated. -
[Discussion] Acquiring Draft Picks
komodo0921 replied to ButterBean's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I don't understand the angst toward that deal either. Miller is a solid top six forward that provides more than offense. He adds a bit more grit to the team; not in a pugilistic way but in tenacity. I'm very excited to see him next season. I thi k the new look Canucks are going to turn some heads in the upcoming season. -
He doesn't have much negotiating power if JB is willing to be patient. He can't get offer sheets and he doesn't have an arbitration option. The cap didn't go up and he hasn't produced as much as Bo has. I believe the reason he hasn't been signed yet is because JB wants term and value. Given the lack of options, Boeser could end up being another player on a great contract. The value of those college players starting on those late season deals is becoming important to future negotiations. Quinn Hughes should be paying attention.

I think Ferland slots on the top six; at least for the start. They should set the tone for anyone who wants to bully Petey right away. A hope of mine is that a little of Ferlands game begins to emerge in Viranens. I don't think he'll be a heavyweight champion by any stretch, but seeing Jake show up on a nightly basis and play the rough, sandpaper type game that got him drafted would be a big step in the right direction. Having Ferland behind him could bring out more nastiness.

[Signing] Canucks sign Micheal Ferland
komodo0921 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yesss!!!. This is the one piece I've really wanted. A real physical presence that can keep up with the speed of todays game. My hope is that he meshes with Bo. Could be a real nasty match up if he does. Baer Petey Boeser Ferland Horvat Miller Pearson Sutter Virtanen -
I think the only deal Aquaman signs off on would be one where the entire cap hit is taken. I don't think a deal gets done without something or someone of significance goes with him.

[PROPOSAL] Complete the Rebuild
komodo0921 replied to Sundin's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
For sure thought this was going to be a Jamie Benn proposal. -
This is a good sign that league perception of the Canucks is changing and that Benning is learning from past mistakes. He stuck to his offer to Edler and got what he wanted. He got both Myers and Benn for affordable prices. Both Meyers and Benn wanted to come here. In the case of Jordie, he turned down the same deal to come here instead. The last, affordable, player on my wishlist is Michael Ferland. The fact that he hasn't signed yet could mean a cheaper price tag. Getting him would cap off my offseason.

[Signing] Bruins sign Brendan Gaunce
komodo0921 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It would be fitting if he turned in to another Cam Neely. -
Now that free agent season has begun, I do believe we are better today than we were yesterday. Combining the added offense of JT Miller with the added defensive experience of Tyler Myers and Jordie Benn, imo, gets us to the playoffs but, in no way do I see us as a real serious contender yet. I'm still of the opinion that 2022-2023 is going to be the year we really start pushing for the finals again.

[Signing] Montreal Offer Sheets Aho
komodo0921 replied to babalu's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
20+ mil. in the first 12 months is a pretty stiff price. Balsy move, that's for sure. -
I don't know if this would be considered as trolling but one player, I truly believe is expendable is Brock Boeser. As much as I like him, I'm having trouble envisioning him as a key to us winning a Stanley Cup. Yes, he has good regular season numbers but playoff hockey is unforgiving toward passive players which Boeser is. One team that could, truly use Boeser and one that we could get a return from would be Ottowa. Something like Eriksson (1mil. retained) and Boeser's negotiating rights to Ottowa for their 2020 1st could work out for both teams. They get a young player over whom they have long-term control and would go a long way to regaining fan interest for their franchise. Ottowa taking Eriksson is the only reason I'm offering Boeser at such a cheap price and is the only reason I look at Ottowa as a trade partner. They love hovering around the cap floor. They get two players that allow this to happen while adding a significant piece to their line up. We get a first rounder which replaces the one we lost in the JT Miller deal and is one I'm looking to be a high lottery pick with which we can use to take a prospect or deal to bring in pieces that move us toward a more playoff oriented team.

[Signing] Tyler Myers to Vancouver

I don't mind this deal. It's not an immovable contract down the road and is a lot better than 7x7. -

Thought I heard McKenzie say it sounded like 5 years, 6 mil.
