  1. While many have hostile feelings toward Milan Lucic ( for reasons I can't understand), I think it's fair to say he'd be a better fit here than in Edmonton. My biggest reason for thinking this is the fact that our team does not play at a fast pace. Petey is not known for his speed. He plays a cerebral game, relying on his vision and foresight. He can see the play develop and knows where he has to be or where he needs to get the puck. Imo, Lucic can keep up with the likes of Petey, Boeser, and Horvat. I could see a great match with Horvat in that both play a gritty forechecking game where working the boards and getting the nose dirty are key strategies to their success. A partnership between beast and bulldog could be a great advantage to our team. I also like the idea of reuniting Boeser and Horvat. They had great success in Boeser's rookie season. I like his fit better with Horvat. Think about it. Horvat can either shoot or pass the puck. Boeser, the sniper extraordinaire, constantly shooting and creating rebounds. And Lucic, the beast in front of the net, cleaning up the garbage created by the other two. Playing for his hometown team could also reinvigorate his game and reignite his passion.
  2. Those were, quite literally, all of his highlights. The Jenner hit was even replayed to extend the video a little due to there being nothing else. His size and potential, skew the fact that he was wildly inconsistent and spent a lot of minutes in the realms of the invisible. He sat because he was ineffective. I have no problem with this. A lot of fans blamed Willie D. for this but I say put the responsibility on the player to earn his spot and not think he's entitled to it. He commented on not understanding why other players wanted to fight him for making a good hit. The fact is, he doesn't have to understand it but he does have to accept it. This is not the KHL. This is the NHL; the pinnacle of hockey where the best in the world play. Every successful player in the league earned his success through blood, sweat, injury, and pain. The NHL is a physical league just as much a skill one. There are few players that will take a hit without taking exception to it. The Jaimie Benn incident (which was left out of your video) should serve as an example of what to expect in the NHL when playing physically. If he can accept these conditions, he has a great chance at having a successful career here. If not, he should probably consider a long career in the KHL where he can play a softer game and not worry about having to back his play.
  3. In my last post on this thread, I got away from the whole point of it. Apologies. Outside of Byram, I don't see another need so pressing that we give up, much-needed assets to move up four spots. Of course if Dipietro can get it done, I'm all for it but I don't see it being realistic as players that will be available at six should be NHL ready in a season or two. Dipietro is many years away from seeing consistent NHL time. After Byram, the defensive prospect pool drops off sharply. There is, however, a wealth of forward talent available. We will have little problem securing one of great quality at ten. Every draft also has a few surprises, whether they be big or small. Last year we were gifted Quinn Hughes which was a major stroke of luck. Perhaps this year sees another unforeseen player become available to us. Either way, I'll be happy with what we get at ten. Pretty much, the only move I'd be happy with is one that gets us Byram, but that is going to be very costly in assets which makes it a proposal I don't see JB making.
  4. I said a couple of weeks ago that I see him in a Chicago uniform. He makes a lot of sense there too. If we want to get him, I think we'd have to snipe the second spot to get the jump on Blackhawk Nation. Good luck with that. We need everyone they'd want and JB doesn't trade picks. The only player that I would consider dealing and one that may interest New York, aside from Petey and Horvat, would be Boeser. As I do value a quality defenseman over a winger, I would consider Boeser expendable in this case. However, If Boeser is in play, our 10th would not be. Boeser is a proven, young NHL forward, and well worth the second. The only reason I consider this is due to our more dire need to build our defense. Being a fan favorite as well as a productive player, losing Brock would hurt, no doubt but, wingers are plentiful and quality can be found at an affordable price. Keeping our 10th also allows us to draft a winger to replace Boeser. Matthew Boldy, imo, would make a great replacement. This would be a case of taking one step back to gain two steps down the road.
  5. Winnipeg Jacob Trouba (sign and trade) Winnipeg is going to be in tough with a lot of rfa contracts to be negotiated. Relieving themselves of one of their big negotiations gives them money to sign their other big ticket players and maybe dip into the free agent market Hutton is beginning to emerge as a solid defender but he just doesn't offer enough of what we need. In Winnipeg, he wouldn't need to be depended on as much for the physicality and can concentrate on simplifying his game and playing to his strengths. Solid defensive positioning and good supporting offensive numbers. He will never be a premiere defenseman but makes a good #4 dman. Jake needs a reboot. He's made incremental improvements to his game but has yet to fully realize his potential. In Winnipeg he can play without the pressure he's getting in Vancouver to be a top guy. Again, I don't see top-six in him but it's not difficult to see a third-line support player who may be able to move up to cover for injuries. They also get a top 10 pick with which they can do as they wish. All in all, it's a pretty handsome return for one player. We are in bad need of a premiere defenseman with Trouba's skill set. It wouldn't be hard to get excited about a Hughes, Trouba pairing. His solid defensive play would allow Hughes to fully maximize his offensive talents with Trouba benefiting greatly from it. His willingness to drop the gloves on occasion also provides a degree of protection for our young, up and coming defender.
  6. Agreed. As much as we could use a modern-day, much younger version of Milan, I hope the ship has sailed on any notion that he may play here.
  7. It was only meant to provide an example of the level of player we'd have to trade to get into the top five. I've said in other threads that I believe Chicago will be Byram's new home.
  8. Juolevi still has a lot of question marks surrounding him. Not sure a team picking in the top 5 would want to touch him. Stetcher, however, could raise some eyebrows. Troy Stetcher, 10th OA to Colorado for 4th OA 2019, 2nd 2020. Colorado is getting a taste of playoff success. Stetcher gives them a speedy, dependable, blueliner who's capable of putting up modest points. This draft is very forward heavy. They need to concentrate on building depth in their forward core. At 10th, there's still going to be plenty of talent available. While it's true we still need many pieces, imo, it is imperative JB puts an exclamation mark on the blueline. Quinn Hughes was a great pickup, but now he needs to back him up with another stud dman. Bowen Byram would be that guy. Yes, trading Stetch would hurt but, getting into the top five is not going to be cheap and will require more than Demko, or Juolevi. Troy has proven his metal in the NHL but we need a blueliner that brings more of an offensive punch and is not shy when it comes to physicality. Bowen brings exactly this. This being said, I think viewing Stetch as an add-on in a deal is seriously undervaluing him, thus the added second for next year. Maybe there could be added value to trading him, should he achieve milestones in stats. Something like; if Stetcher gets 35+ points, the second round pick becomes a first. This would give us Hughes, Byram, and hopefully, Juolevi on our left side. That would be a pretty effective trio.
  9. Yes, but the draft is still very important to our team. Having a second first rounder still gives us one for 2020. Therefore, we really only lose one. Anybody other than Petey, Horvat, Boeser, and Hughes would be available. I would also table any non-first/second round picks in a deal.
  10. Just finished posting this in another thread. Sign Brock Nelson, if able. Baer Petey Boeser Nelson Horvat Leivo Roussel Sutter Virtanen Pearson Beagle Motte
  11. Aggressively go after Brock Nelson (if he makes ufa)- 53 points, plays all three zones with great effectiveness, has plenty of grit and size. At 26, he's a younger ufa. I see him as a great fit with Bo Horvat, who really needs high-end wingers to work with. Look to gain a second first rounder in 2020. Having two first rounders in 2020 allows us to go after pending rfa Jacob Trouba (assuming he makes it). Having two first rounders next year affords us the ability to go to the area where Winnipeg may be reluctant to match. Trouba is another gritty player that also excels in all three zones. I see him as a great fit with Quinn Hughes. His high-end defensive play would allow Quinn to work his magic with the puck with the confidence of having Jacob there to cover for mistakes. He's also a willing pugilist if somebody wants to take liberty's with our young stars. Achieving these two signings would greatly improve our team and puts us in the playoffs next year.
  12. We just don't have the depth to make a deal this big. Everything they'd want, Benning won't deal. Kind of a waste of time really.
  13. Even if we did win, Benning would panic, change the rules and redraw.
  14. If Demko were on the block, I really like the fit in Columbus. They need cap relief to, hopefully, sign, at least, one of Duchesne or Dzingle. Bobby's rumored to be looking for the planet in a new deal. Acquiring Demko allows them to move on from him and gives them control over a young goalie for a few seasons. We, in the meantime, commit to Marky for the next few seasons. My want would focus on their first 2020. The question is; without a first rounder in 2019, would they be willing to let go of two-first rounders in a row. My reasoning for wanting that first-round pick is simple. I want to see JB go after Trouba if he makes rfa. Getting that pick would offset the loss of a first round pick that would go to Winnipeg as compensation ( I'm certain we'd be forking over next years as the deal would be a large one.
  15. He'd better re-up, or he'll quickly become a villain after refusing to waive his NMC and his legacy here will be, forever, tarnished.
  16. I don't even get the belt pose, It's not like he gooned him. Zack held his own pretty well. I'd say. What a moron.
  17. Florida is a mess, top to bottom. Boughner was just the bucket that caught the sh#t.
  18. The Canucks should, seriously, look at dealing Marky. He's going to be 30 next January. If he continues to trend up, his wants in a new contract will be max money, max term. With Demko "chomping at the bit" to establish himself as a starter, it's difficult to imagine Canucks brass being eager to hand out a 5-6 year contract to an aging netminder. Marky has been a warrior for us, no doubt, but signing him to that kind of deal, imo, tells Demko he has no future here. The question mark here is, obviously, whether or not Thatcher's ready to assume full duties between the pipes. For the most part, Demko's looked solid. Yes, he's had a hiccup or two but he's not had a chance to get into a groove due to injuries and a hot Markstrom. I say give him his shot. While I acknowledge there will probably be some painful nights as Thatcher settles into the starting role, I want him in his prime when the team in front of him is ready to start contending. There's no substitute for experience. The Canucks should, aggressively, pursue Jacob Trouba if he makes restricted free agency which could, very well, happen. His history with Winnipeg has been very tenuous, at times. He may be one that doesn't feel the loyalty that leads a lot of players to sign the dotted line before exploring other options. He represents everything we need on the back end. He can score, he can defend, and he provides physicality, which includes pugilistic tendencies when necessary. He is ready to assume a leadership role, which, provides a face saver if things don't work out with Edler. As a leader on the blueline, I feel he would be recognized as one of the true elite NHL defenders. So convinced am I that I would be more than willing to put a ten million dollar tag on him for seven years and forfeit the draft picks. These players do not become available very often. JB needs to seize the opportunity if it should arise, and jump on it. The Canucks should not dip deeply into the ufa market. With a new, young core beginning to form, overpaying another aging player would seem to undermine the direction taken by JB. He's brought in new players like Leivo, Pearson, and Spooner. Trading for them and then bringing in high ticket players would, again, create a sense of confusion as to where these players fit and what the direction of the team truly is. Give them the chance to establish themselves here before looking for outside help. The Canucks should shed deadweight. It's time to make decisions on who's in the plans and who's not. Players like Pouliot, Granlund, and Goldy have been, invisible for most of the season and have been on the bad side of many mistakes. Imo, they should be history. Players like Hutton and Virtanen are on the bubble, but both have shown improvement in their respective games. They deserve another season to further prove themselves, but both are on thin ice. While getting Trouba is more dream than reality, I don't think it unrealistic to deal Marky or drop players like Pouliot, Granlund, and Goldy. Losing Marky might hurt in the short term but the return should be very good and would serve the Canucks well in the future. I see any one of these being achieved as a great move going forward.
  19. Goldy's situation has become so sad. I remember when the trade went down and how stoked we were to get this guy. We called it one of JB's best deals and on the surface, it looked to be a slam dunk. But how this guy's squandered every opportunity he's been gifted and refuses to play with any real interest in improving himself is mindblowing. He, simply, refuses to play the defensive side of the game with any kind of consistency. He'll do it for a couple of games after he's been benched but inevitably goes right back to his lax play and returns to costing his team. I know a lot of fans want to put a fork into this guys career as a Canuck but; How much longer is JB going to put up with him before putting him out of his misery?
  20. Is it unreasonable to shut Baer down for the season? I'd rather see him back to 100% in a fresh season than risking another injury that could continue into next season. It's not like we're playing for anything other than for pride anyway.
  21. Is Woo eligible to play for Utica if Moosejaws season ends before the AHL regular season ends?
  22. Yes!!! I love this kids game. I'm as excited about Woo on the right side as I am about Hughes on the left.
  23. So many are so concerned with his, off-ice, situation. I'm just excited to see what this kid brings to our team. Though I'm trying to keep my expectations at a realistic level, I can't help letting in the thought that he could have an equal, all-be-it shorter, impact on this season as Petey. It's not hard to envision Hughes and Pettersson becoming one of the most feared PP matchups in the NHL. He should add a whole new dynamic to our blueline and should solidify our first powerplay unit. I am really excited to see QH here.
