I agree. He's got the raw talent. I'd like to see what higher quality mentorship would do for him. His numbers seem to indicate defensive issues but without seeing him play or the situations he's being played in, it's impossible to tell.

I don't place much importance in this tournament either. It's too short. It comes down to who finds chemistry fastest. I'm more interested in his skill set than I am in goals and assists; seeing how he fits in the Canucks grand scheme. Of course if he shows up a lot on the scoresheet, great, but it's not the end all, be all of his career.

And look at the outcome of patience. We had the privilege of watching the greatest brother duo of all time. It seems if a prospect doesn't start producing within a couple seasons Canuck fans want him gone. The fact is, some players take longer than others to come around. Gaunce is one that's taking longer but as long as he's taking positive steps, I remain encouraged. I like what I'm seeing in what's being built. I've been, highly sceptical of JB's top picks but am now seeing the plan coming to fruition and have learned to be less critical of him. JB's drafting ability is going to turn this team into an annual contender for a long time. We must remember the mess he inherited when he first signed on. All the ntc's made his job extremely difficult.

I disagree. When Gaunve and Virtanen are on the ice, they're creating chances and are able, for the most part, to keep the opposition pinned in their own zone. As long as he keeps getting chances and remains vigil to his style of play, he will start finding the back of the net.

I've never been on the fence about anything with Edler. I've never been a fan of his. As a defenceman, stability and dependability have to be, imo, the biggest necessities. Tanev is a great example of consistency. We know, game in and game out, what we're going to see out of him. He may never be an offensive juggernaught but we are going to get 15-20 points out of him every year and know that our blue-line is well taken care of. Unfortunately, injury is his one flaw. This is why I've been plugging deals for guys like Morin in Philly and Cernak in Tampa. They're never going to be Karlsson type scorers but they are capable of 15-20 points a season and are going to be nightmares to play against. This could be a bit of high hopes but I am hoping that Kristoffer Gunnarsson can find a little bit of offence. I've not seen any of his play, but word has it, he's a punishing hitter who is a beast defensively. He'll never drop the gloves but as fights are getting rarer and rarer, he could be a great fit in today's NHL. Having 6 defencemen who are defensively sound, play with grit and can put up 15-20 pnts would be gold, imo.

I agree, although I was still perplexed to see the Sedins in OT the other night over a flying Virtanen. But, given what TG's been able to get out of this team, I can't stay angry for long. Contrary to most opinions, I see great things in Gaunce and Virtanen. The goals aren't there yet but they're getting quality scoring chances. Like Jake, I don't think Gaunce has a lot more to offer and we need to be patient.

What do you want as the Canucks alternate/third jersey?
komodo0921 replied to Roberts's topic in Canucks Talk
I don't like third jersey's at all. They're a gimmick to sell more product and nothing more. Part of the problem with the Vancouver Canucks is that they've never had a sense of tradition. With the exception of small tweaks to the Toronto jersey, none of the original six mess with their image. One doesn't even have to be a hockey fan to recognize them. If there is to be another change, I don't want it to be in our colours. I think the colours are sharp and vivid. It's funny, to me, how Johnny Canuck has always been a part of Canuck identity, but has never been a significant part of the appearance. I think it's time. The current colours with the Johnny Canuck logo would be great. After that, leave it alone. -
Does anyone have any updated news on his status?

I stand by what I said in that situation and still think it now. Skipping steps is always a risk and the AHL, imo, is a necessary step in providing as much gaurentee, as a manager can, that a player is ready to play in the NHL. There is a vast difference between knowing a player after 42 games in the NCAA and knowing him after 70 games in the "A". One must also remember that we're 23 games into the season and there's a lot of hockey left to play and the intensity is going to rise as the playoffs get closer. I'm going to be very interested to see how he does after the 43 game mark, which will represent the most games he's played since his USHL days. At the end of the day the chance may have worked out this time but I hope they don't make a habit of bypassing critical steps in attempts to speed up the rebuild.

His deal with TPS is for 2 years, which is fine. No need to hurry him. I see him in Vancouver for the 2020-21 season. 2 seasons in Europe and 1 in Utica.

This is good news.

Oh ok. Thought it was in September. Good, both he and Gadget will be ready to move up. I'm excited to see the new generation develop. We may not have been gifted a generational player but I see a solid future and a deep team moving forward. With JB at the head of the draft table, we are going to have a solid system, top to bottom and, maybe, finally, see success become a bit of a tradition in this province.

What's the cut off date for Birthday?
-
Either way, it's his dzone play that's been his crutch. Just heard somewhere he seems to be improving that aspect of his game.
-
Am I correct in thinking Kole has to return to Kelowna next year if he doesn't make the Canucks?
-
Has anyone seen any reports on his start to the season? I thought I heard a statement somewhere saying he looked to be working harder in the dzone and that his two way play, at least early, shows improvement. If true, this is huge for him and the club.

If Saturday was any indication of what we're going to see from Bo this season, his 5.5 mil. salary is going to be the envy of the league. He was flying on every shift. The speed he, seems to have gained, is very noticeable and his determination to get a scoring chance shows his desire to improve his game, never calling it good enough and never giving up. Keep it up.

[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread
komodo0921 replied to The Stork's topic in Off-Topic General
Really need to resign JD. He's become the heart of this organization and wants to stay. Hope they figure out a way to get it done. -
100%agree. Virt looks to be turning his career in the right direction. He seems to respond to Travis Green's coaching style. I've been saying, all along, that Jake should go back to Utica for one more season but seeing how he plays under Green, maybe keeping him here is what's best for him. 5 points in 5 games is hard to ignore. Still need to see more physicality though. I think he solidified his spot with last nights performance.
-
5 points in 3 games against other teams top talent is very encouraging on the offensive front. Not gonna over hype him but, it is very possible JB could've found himself another diamond in the making. Love his ability to find these guys. I don't think he makes the main roster this year but, I definitely, look forward to watching him develop in Utica.
-
I, too, am rooting for him. He's put a lot of work into improving his all round game. It looks like it's starting to pay off. With Gaunce being injured, this is a real opportunity for him to, finally, earn a spot. I have my fingers crossed for him.
-
I really want to see him emerge in Utica this year. Consistency on the score sheet, better reliability in the d zone and, of course, more highlight reel hits. I'm still holding out hope that he can turn into a top six, complimentary piece.
-
It's such a sad thing to be discussing with this kind of scrutiny. Kid made a mistake. Leave it at that and move on. It deserves to be made fun of.

I ran over a squirrel on the way to work. Is that vehicular squirrelslaughter? Should I turn myself in? Or should I go on the lamb. Ahh crap, if I go on a lamb, it's animal cruelty. What do I do? I'm so confused.
-
I disagree. Two totally different situations. Lainne went into an, already, up trending situation and was, clearly, ready for the next step. My mention of Gaudette was merely an example of what I'd like to see and, I do believe, I said, "should he go to Utica", referring to the possibility that Dahlen is not a sure thing for the AHL. Brock's professional career consists of 9 games and you have him being a star already. I want to see him over a 76 game AHL season to see how consistent he is over a long stretch and possibly playoffs. I need, only point out Virtanen's situation, to remind people of the negatives of rushing a prospect before they're, truly ready. I would've said the same thing about Horvat. He worked out but I still think it was a risky, unessessary move that could've went the other way. Imo, management rushed him too but got lucky. It is, also my opinion that Vancouver will not be playing for anything other than another high draft pick again. So letting him mature a little more in the AHL next season will not hurt. As was stated, I feel the upcoming season would be better spent weeding out the expendables and making room for a more streamlined, directed line up without the log jam of confusion there is now. This is not a positive situation for him to come into and I'd rather make sure he's ready.
