  1. I think its also because a lot of fans think this rebuild started when the Sedins retired when in reality, Bo was the first domino, in that Schneider deal in 2013. JB then made some deals, stockpiled some picks, took on some projects but mostly focused on drafting well. 1st round draft picks are really important, but so are 2nd, 3rds, etc. Having good young players in the system always coming up through good drafting will lessen the pain of trading away a 1st rounder once in a blue moon. I am a big fan of the way JT plays, he has a nose for the net. He goes to the net HARD, sticks around waiting for rebounds, is always facing the net with his stick down for a cross crease or a tip/deflection.
  2. No no no, don't kid yourself. We know what our puzzle looks like. Starts with a 1-2 in Petey and Bo, Boeser, Miller, Pearson, Hughes, Edler, Tanev, Troy, UFA, UFA, above average prospect pool, cap space, solid goaltending. We are an organization that drafts well now. We just picked up Hogs with a 2nd rounder. We have Vasili, a hobey baker in Gaud, the list goes on. Its so funny how we lack appreciation for our own team, whether its appreciation for management or owners or the players. Myers isn't even signed and the former Calder Winner is already Van City's brand new whipping boy. We trade for a top 6 and people lost their nuts. Tampa, Winnipeg, Colorado, Calgary, etc, all looked great on paper. Who made it to the cup final? Bergeron and O'Reilly. Not every team has the type of player that Bo Horvat is. But sure, yeah puzzle talk. They may have more pieces in order, but we aren't dying here either.
  3. OH NO, THEY TRADED PICKS?!?! Armchair GM’s would have a stroke if JB did it.
  4. Markstrom. The guy is an absolute beast. But the NHL is moving towards 2 starters on good teams, so the combo of Marky and Demko going forward is great. I think its been a few months since we saw VAN play so we are forgetting what we saw from Markstrom.
  5. Great balance for Hughes. Don’t mind it at a reasonable price.
  6. This JUST broke. Maybe something changes down the line very soon. Lets wait and see if the most sensible thing is done by placing Lu on LTIR shortly.
  7. To answer your question, 1st Rounder, 2nd Rounder, (A) level prospect. To Start. And there would be a bidding war for Bo's services. No guarantee and highly unlikely any of those picks or that prospect would touch the great two way/power forward ability of the Bull. I like to think of Bo as the new age power forward with hands and skill and speed. JT is good, he' a top 6 forward for sure, he' a centre, but he' not Bo!
  8. Here are some of my many questions surrounding Goldy: 1. Does he work hard? Coach Green says he's really trying, and listens. 2. He's 23, He played 38 games the year prior to last, and 63 games last year. Are we ready to give up on him? This one kills me because last year was his first full-ish year and like many first year players outside the Van-City microscope, they struggle from time to time. I mean, the kid DID have 8 G and 6 A in the 38 games he played prior to last year which was without EP40. He does not actually have 4 full years of experience in the NHL. He had 63 Games last year, half season the year prior and not much besides that. 2015-2016: 9 NHL Games with SJS 2016-2017: 2 Nhl Games with SJS, 2 With VAN 3. Does he have a spot on this team? I think Goldy has just as much of a spot as JV. 4. Speaking of JV, who do you think is closer to breaking out and becoming a top 6 stud? They are different players, and have different issues. Jake needs to use his frame more and Goldy needs to let go of the puck quicker. Plain and simple. That's how cut and dry their situations are when I watch them play every night. There have been instances where we see them doing this, which makes us hungrier for that version of them. The Breakout: Jake uses straight line speed and gets the puck into the O-Zone. Goldobin makes some very nice dekes to get into the O-Zone. Please Goldy, shoot the puck or use the playmaking ability we've seen to make a pass. Don't hold on to it for that long. I see Kapanen in Goldy next year. I feel the issues surrounding him are minimal, and if he's coachable, they can be fixed. Im talking video, drills, or maybe even puck handling classes if he really cant give up the puck a second faster. (funny enough, when I looked Kasperi up, they have a similar GP history, and a similar stat line, Kapanen with the edge of course) Let the community know what your thoughts on these players are! Go Canucks Go! We have such a passionate fan base but lets give it to JB for stealing Podkolzin and Hoglander at the draft, and adding a top-6 player to our roster! With what we have now in Petey and Brock and Quinn and Bo etc, we have to actively start trying to win, because all the pieces are there, or hopefully will be after FA & trade.
  9. He doesn't deserve all the hate and negativity. He's doing great. What we have now, minus Bo, is all a product of him. This is his build and I hope he sees this through. Doesn't get any credit. People forgot we just unloaded a pile of pucks for a 20 goal scorer in TP. That being said, it is crucial that he adds 1 top 4, 1 top 6 D and a 27-35 goal scoring winger. Whether its trade or FA. They have to be hardworking character guys that will compete every night like this team does.
  10. better to use that cap elsewhere. he should smarten up and sign for less.
  11. Canadian Press February 25, 2019, 3:33 PM 238 VANCOUVER — General manager Jim Benning says the Vancouver Canucks were looking to add a proven goal scorer when they made a last-minute deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday. The team is now hoping Tanner Pearson can become a consistent top-6 forward. Benning said sending defenceman Erik Gudbranson to the Penguins for winger Tanner Pearson just prior to the trade deadline adds a "good hockey player" to Vancouver’s roster. "He’s been a 40, 45-point guy in the league," Benning told reporters. "We think he’s going to be a good fit with either (Elias Pettersson) or (Bo Horvat). He’s just another guy that can score for us." The Canucks (26-28-8) will be Pearson’s third team of the season. Pittsburgh (32-22-8) acquired the 26-year-old native of Kitchener, Ont., from the Los Angeles Kings in November. Picked 30th overall by the Kings at the 2012 draft, Pearson had a career-high 44-point season in 2016-2017. His production has slowed this year, with nine goals and six assists in 61 games. The 27-year-old Gudbranson has two goals and six assists in 57 games for Vancouver this season, but his plus-minus sits at a league-worst -27. Drafted third overall by the Florida Panthers in 2010, the Ottawa native was traded to the Canucks in 2016 to bring a level of toughness to the team. Benning acknowledged that Gudbranson didn’t ever fully adjust to life in Vancouver. "He had some injuries that kind of set him back. Maybe the style of game we played wasn’t a fit to his game," the GM said. "But I’ve got to give him credit — he stuck up for our guys, he fought for our team, he was a good penalty killer for us." Luke Schenn is expected to take over some of Gudbranson’s protective role, Benning said. Vancouver acquired the 29-year-old defenceman from the Ducks in January for Michael Del Zotto and a seventh-round pick. Anaheim sent Del Zotto to the St. Louis Blues on Monday for a sixth-round draft spot. With veteran defenders Alex Edler and Chris Tanev sidelined by injuries, the Canucks blue line is looking thin after Gudbranson’s departure. But Benning said he’s excited about some of the club’s defensive prospects, including Quinn Hughes, who went seventh overall at last year’s draft. The 19-year-old is playing at the University of Michigan. The Canucks also swapped prospects with San Jose on Monday, sending winger Jonathan Dahlen to the Sharks for centre Linus Karlsson. Benning called the trade "a lateral move." Vancouver acquired Dahlen from the Ottawa Senators for forward Alex Burrows in February 2017. The 21-year-old has 14 goals and 15 assists for the American Hockey League’s Utica Comets this season. Benning said the young Swede’s agent called him a few weeks ago, asking that Dahlen be moved. Some players are reluctant to pay their dues when it comes to development, he added. "They just want to be given an NHL opportunity right off the start," Benning said. "We just felt that there’s some development left in (Dahlen’s) game before he’s ready to be given an NHL opportunity and we felt that he wasn’t there yet." Karlsson, 19, has four goals and 13 assists for Karlskrona HK in the Swedish league. Vancouver also got calls about Edler leading up to the trade deadline, Benning said. The 32-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The club approached Edler about the offers three or four days ago, but he declined to waive the no-trade clause in his contract, Benning said. "If he would have wanted to waive his no-trade to go to one of those teams, we would have tried to figure out a deal for him. That, obviously, didn’t happen," he said. Negotiations about Edler’s future continue, Benning said. "Alex has been a great player for us for a long time," he said. "We’d like to continue for him to be part of our team, part of our group. And we’re going to keep working towards trying to figure something out there." A reluctance to give up draft picks limited what deals the Canucks could make leading up to this year’s trade deadline, Benning said. The draft is set to be held in Vancouver in June and the team doesn’t want to trade away future potential for short-term fixes. "I think we’ve done a good job drafting. We want to continue doing a good job drafting and developing and rebuilding the team," Benning said. "I think the message to our fans today is to continue to be patient. We’re going to continue to do things the right way. We’re going to draft and develop, and we’re going to build this thing piece by piece so we can be competitive for a long time." Pittsburgh Penguins Acquire: Erik Gudbranson pearson
  12. Absolutely disgusting. First we pick up the 3rd best player in the draft at 10th overall, Then we get another 1st rounder drop to us to early in the 2nd. And we added a top 6 Forward to our roster! effing love it.
  13. And to everybody comparing our situation to Ottawa’s, I HIGHLY DOUBT Horvat Pettersson Boeser and Hughes etc etc will let this team fall that low. If if they do, they are the problem and we will flip them again for the 1st rounder your crying about.
  14. If we make the playoffs, we give up our first for that year (2020). If we miss, we draft higher obviously and keep that pick but give up the 2021 1st . Which makes complete sense. If needed, it gives us time to recover any picks to satisfy the souls of all the armchair GM’s that are crying over the fact that we just picked up a good young 50 point player that plays Centre or Wing. We have our franchise players in Petey and Brock. Its not a video game, so you can get at me and tell me it’s “just a first” or you can understand the situation or the condition.
  15. Might be better to have a bum that wants to play here instead of a bum that doesn't, idk.
  16. He just got a 20 goal scorer for scraps and he's bad at pro scouting eh...
  17. If we are already spending X amount for silver, why not spend the X and a half for gold. But no to Myers, No to Gardiner. Karlsson or Panarin or just stay off the market.
  18. I saw your reply, stoned faced for 5 seconds and then rofl'ed. Jonah Hill lmao.
