GMJB loves character. Gaunce has that. Which leads me to... I think he'll put up points. He's got the strength and willpower to do dirty work, and the intelligence to read plays. Even if he's a fourth liner, he'll put up ~15 points a season. That's my bet, anyway. As a third liner, he could probably rise to 25-30 points a season.

I think he's drunk.

You ever watched him? I haven't. But from what I've heard, he is hard to play against. The kid doesn't stop skating, and he's like a hawk after mice when the opposition has the puck. Sounds like he makes it difficult for them. You trollin', broh?
-
I want to believe that, but I haven't seen enough to call it. You watch the kid a lot? I did read he scores his goals in the danger zone - low slot shots - which is great. He takes it to the net and likes scoring close to the crease. Also, it's cool he seems to be growing up slowly, so he might hit his full physical potential until 24-25, maybe later. Hopefully he's a sleeper that tears up the AHL in a few years with a stacked team!

Guys, I just realized the reason Ben's always smiling. Born on 4/20.

Yeah, like in Red: A Wild Sean Monahan appears! *concurrently: Yeerrngh!!

Makes me wonder if profs are aware of the student athletes or are given directives by coaches/administration. A movie'll probably come out about this next year. Let's license the idea and make millions, yeah? by the way, I always imagine a specific voice from your image. No idea what Monahan sounds like, but every post I read is precede by a: Yeerrnngh!! A la Pokemon Red

My ex-girlfriend goes to USC, and she's told me that the athletes there get priority registration and specific classes that're extremely easy to ace. I've heard this is the case with athletic programs across America, especially NCAA schools, so I wouldn't be surprised if Brock's taking three, maybe four, possibly five classes a semester and at least two of them being write-offs. I shouldn't say Brock, because that's probably the case for any athlete in those systems. Brock might be different. Based on what I've heard about his story, he might be driving himself in that regard as much as hockey.

Weirdo. I keep it pure with righty.

Was this who JB's eye's popped out of their sockets for?

It's pathetic this even exists.

Mirrors my thinking. I think of the best parts of Hutton's game is his resilience, and when asked about it, he says it was taught to him by his college coach who got him to read more about great leaders. I think there's tremendous value in education. And that doesn't consider the fact he's emerging from a proven system (Parise, Toews), so I'm comfortable with him playing there. That said, I'd like to see what he can do in the AHL. There are more NHL calibre goalies there, so that aspect of testing might be useful for Boeser.

Alright, I was slightly disrespectful. I'll keep myself in check from now on.

Actually, I wrote about what you wrote, not about you. Made that clear, too. Don't act indignant, don't try to spin this on me because I called you out. Your opinion was based on crap reasoning. I call crap out when I see it. You can speculate, but expect your opinion to be tested.
-
Dude, you sound idiotic. Sorry, but your mentality is pathetic. For one, you have no idea what's happened and your opinion is based purely on speculation. Many said similar things about Baer before he got here, and now he's scoring consistently for us. How do you know it isn't a similar situation? Maybe it has more to do with personalities than it does the kid's "ego", which, despite your denouncement of, is an extremely valuable part of any performance. It's possible he's a bust, yeah. I don't really even know much about him aside from the odd highlight package and starlings, but I do know the Canucks don't have the assets to pull off a high caliber trade like this and remain well stocked, prospects-wise. I think you should consider more than your own beliefs about "humility" and whatever else you believe in before you start criticizing other humans and making accusations about them. See, I'm legitimized by having read what you've written. You're not because you have no clue.

Yeah, I'm with you. I thought Jake, overall, made a more noticeable impact on games early on in the season. You noticed the same trends as me, though. He's been positionally sound and less aggressive. This isn't a bad thing, because it suggests he's growing into thinking through the game. He's also been effective by underlying metrics. More so as the season progresses. I have high hopes for this kid. He looks like a future 2nd liner, and I think with the Canucks actively investing in development, he's more likely to reach that ceiling than not.
-
The variety involved in his goals is awesome. Each of them is slightly different. It's great to see he scores dynamically, not from one spot only. I'm continually impressed by his passing skills, too. He seems to have the right mind for hockey and hands to match. I don't think we should be overly concerned about his skating, though. He'll be fast enough to make up for it with smarts.

I forgot another descriptor: idiot. You accept my opinion. I accept that you have one, I don't accept it. I said nothing about Nylander or his abilities, I said you don't know what he's like and you don't seem to see the irony of your statements. I'm a Canucks fan, and I'm disgraced to be in the same category as you. You sound like a bigot. Also, "Leafs suck" - "Those were good Leafs". What? You like their history but not the present? Whatever it is that you meant, your comments here paint you as a reactionary moron. A person whose emotions are fragile enough that their opinions can be shifted by the declarations of fans online to the point of making crass, ignorant statements like you have is a pathetic person indeed. Then again, you don't seem to be from around here...
-
Dude, what is your problem? Stooping to name-calling and stereotyping is childish. It's the kind of things a Canucks fan shouldn't endorse, especially since we've supported two of the least "manly" players this generation's seen. They've been prolific. They have been called sisters. You really gonna take the same route on some other players you don't know jack all about? Honestly, this is pathetic. You're not funny, you try too hard, and your opinions are dispersed like fact without reasons. You're a charlatan.

I think you're missing the point of the prospect pages...

You agree with me, I agree with you. The reason Baer had success in Utica was the talent of that team relative to the league. His style matched theirs, and he's mismatched to his current role - your remark about Higgins mirrors this thought. Benning has the vision of a faster team in mind, see: Bartkowski. And the prospects we've been selecting for offensive roles (defenders, too) have tended to have wheels rather than not. It'll be nice to see a breakout North-South Canucks team in a few years. Sounds like we might have a team modelled on the WCE era where the Sedins are solid 2nd-3rd line contributors and our other lines are fast, creative, and hungry. I would love to see consistent scoring off the rush. Baer'll fit in if the team's trends continue, and I think WD is playing an unfamiliar style. Remember the beginning of last season? The Canucks pressed consistently, played with tenacity and aggression, but injuries and a generally inadequate line-up caught up to the team, and so the style shifted. In my opinion, the team hasn't gotten better since then, but the next couple years will bring a change of style that coincides with player development, as I see it. I'm really hoping Subban can handle the NHL rigours as a defenceman, his puck rushing abilities would be great to have from the back-end. I've also been impressed with the highlight reel of Brisebois, even though his counting stats suck. It looks like there are some promising defence prospects in the pipeline who can fill the roles of Bartkowski and Weber to a higher ability in those two I mentioned, and some other intriguing additions like Trymakin, who seems to be having a great season in the KHL thus far. I'm excited for the next two, three years of integration and growth. Oh hey, do you think Rodin will come over?

Don't be aFrued, just know the Jung gun is here now

So there was something interesting I noted in that all-access video posted with Prust showing the plane off. Baer's response to the video - he looks at Prust for a sliver of a second before casting his eyes away, his face growing beet-red as he brings up his hand to conceal his face from Prust and the camera. Wasn't a poker moment for him - I can't read it as anything specific, but what it did tell me is that the kid is intensely sensitive. I think it's important to note he was also sitting on his own, not with the other players. Seemed to be a level of alienation at work - not sure how much. I'm curious whether the research Gaunce and Demko have done in college on psychology helps them, and I wonder if it could help a player like Baer, too. On the note of Demko, I'm stoked he's studying psychology and philosophy (I'm a philosophy major with major biases)

What's your take on the amount of time it takes to get a sense of what the player can deliver? I agree with your point on Baer. My take on it is that we won't know until he's had a full season and then some playing with consistency and holding a spot. He's described himself as a rhythm player, and every time he's talked about his game he's talked about it like a craft. McCann seems to be cut from the same cloth but obviously a separate character and player. With Baer it seems to boil down to how he's mentally positioned himself within any given team's hierarchy. He believes he should be one the most productive players because he believes he's one of the most skilled. I think this is why he started to struggle when Calgary started touting other prospects instead of him. If I were him, I'd be annoyed that the coach treats me like a rookie, because honestly, aside from getting muscled off the puck, Baer doesn't make many mistakes. He's easily the third best passer on the team, in my opinion, and has a ton more skill than Vey. I've seen some pretty useless comparisons between the two. Anyhow, I've seen more and more from him lately, so I'm hoping the trend continues. tl;dr - Agreed. More time's needed before evaluations are made about our current prospects.

Surprise everyone but the wise who've traversed the storied halls of CDC. Yeah, I've heard the same about him - that he's a pure goal scorer. If we have players like McCann, Boeser, and Shinkaruk in our top 6, we should be able to score some goals. All of those guys have demonstrated the ability to put the puck in the net with precision and power. Hopefully it translates for all of them. I think, like I wrote before, that Boeser seems really smart on the ice, so I think he'll be able to generate chances regardless of who he's playing with. Obviously, he'd benefit enormously from a set-up man like Baer, but it remains to be seen who'll stick.
