have a gut feeling Eriksson may end up in Detroit. I have the feeling Vancouver is going to be smart about contracts and term and avoid problems down the road. Maybe someone like Brouwer or Martin will come to Vancouver on a shorter term ( less than 5 years ) ?

I'd definitely be content if they just sign some cheaper 2nd to 3rd line players to bridge the gap between the veterans and prospects for a few seasons.

How much did the Canucks pay Luongo?  His CAP hit was only $5.3 million a year - yet some people here think giving a tool like Lucic $6 to $6.5 million a year is a good deal???? 

Chances are that if Luongo retires, it'll be under one of two cirumstances. One -- he'll play his contract to the end. This is very likely. Luongo's not the most injury prone goalie and he's proven that he's one of the league's most consistent and durable goalies. His play may decline in the final years but I expect him to trooper one till the bitter end. Two -- he retires due to injury. In this case he'll go out much like Marc Savard, Chris Pronger, Nathan Horton, etc... and have his final years buried in the LTIR ranks. His contract may bounce around from team to team but a cap recapture/penalty likely ain't happening. Honestly, there's nothing to worry about with Luongo -- I don't expect any problems. I seriously doubt he screws over the team that'll either give him Ring of Honor honors or retire his number in such a grand fashion --- BY CHOICE.

when you totally rely on your goalie to get you to the playoffs..I would say he is needed and being a top 5 pick that is francophone makes it all the more interesting ..he wouldnt step right in...or maybe he would..who knows  you have to admit he would be on their radar.
