Hopefully Mr. Gaudette can be our own little Masshole on the ice.

The Pacific Northwest is the most beautiful region in the world. You don't realize how amazing it is until you live elsewhere.
-
I'll vouch for that. Problem is, I remember White Rock back in the 70's. We walked through a back-route, nature trail to the corner stores on State Road(Hi view market, or Mr Dee's). My folks giving me a quarter so I could buy a bag of sweets.
We were poor too(Dad, in & outa' work). My point being, a struggling family with 5 kids could eke out an existence in paradise, for 2 decades of time.
Paradise lost.

It's the only region I've ever called home. Being a simple Island boy, Vancouver was too much for me. Just too busy, full of busy people who are busy being full of themselves, generally. Blow-hards and big-shots.
I enjoyed the years I spent in Squamish and Whistler, but Lucky Lager is "The Island's Own" afterall.
But I digress, ReggieBush, you are sofa king right. I'm reminded of that fact every time I return home from a vacation or work burden.

Like I said, gotta love March!

Gotta love March Madness! UMBC defeats #1 overall seed Virginia 74-54! A 16 seed has never beaten a #1 in the history of the tournament.

It's already been made into a Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_UMBC_vs._Virginia_men's_basketball_game

Absolutely FUMING that Vancouver will not be one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup. It's a disgrace that we have turned down the honor of hosting the world's biggest sporting event!

It definitely sucks, but I'm also tired of FIFA using the prestige of the World Cup as leverage to lobby for practically anything they want. No event should be important enough to give a supposedly non-profit sports governing body that kind of power.
If you don't care about FIFA corruption, that's fine, but I expect the organization responsible for acting in the best interests of the world's most popular sport to be held to a higher standard. If it takes a few cities saying no to hosting, so be it.

We can't know that Vancouver would've gotten a QF. It's a joint bid with the US and Mexico. With that many larger cities and bigger soccer hubs than Vancouver even if we got 3 games, they're probably prelims or early rounds. Canada would get 10 games in this arrangement to be split among Van, Edm, Tor, and Mon, if we'd said yes. I'd imagine Toronto would get a QF and that would probably be the only QF played in Canada.
Besides, if the North American bid loses to Morroco, can't they bid again for 2030 and maybe BC will say 'yes' then.
-
@Where's Wellwood We would have got a QF. We have the best stadium of the 3, it was practically a given

Which young trio would you rather have
Matthews, Marner, Nylander
or
Boeser, Horvat, Pettersson (assuming EP becomes a 80 player)

Brutal day for Sports Deaths. Roger Bannister, the first man to under 4 mins for a mile (88) and footballer Davide Astori and Italian International (only 31) pass away..

Greatest Male/Female vocalist of all time?
Freddie Mercury and Whitney Houston are my votes. Who you got?

IIHF needs to take a strong look at their women's officiating and how they end elimination games. The fact that a gold medal game is decided in a skill competition is appalling.
-
Had the officiating been on point, they never would have gotten to overtime, let alone shootout. The sheer number of bad calls against Canada, and lack of against USA was appalling. Then all of a sudden the whistles go away in OT until the last two minutes?
Poulin should have been called 2 minutes for illegal hit, she absolutely destroyed that woman in front of the net, Scott Stevens would be proud.

People call the Bo-Schnieder trade a wash thus far. I disagree. Since the trade, Bo has played in more playoff games than Cory. When it is all said and done, I think we will have won that trade by a wide margin.

@-AJ- But #1's play every playoff game
-
@ReggieBush Ah yes, my mistake there, I misread. Still, that's more of a measure of team success than individual player success I suppose. There were a couple of years when I'd argue Schneider was a top 5 goaltender in the league.

Good for her. Maybe this time words like hers will carry traction far longer than a news cycle or 2. A majority of American politicians either have no balls or are removed from reality. Like the Alabama State Representative Will Ainsworth who 2 days ago announced that he is working on a bill that would allow some public school teachers and administrators to carry a gun during school hours. He says concerned educators from Marshall County reached out to him Thursday evening.
"They wanted to know what we could do to prevent that in Alabama," said Ainsworth. "Our kids are literally sitting ducks"

US Twitter freaking out about how Nurse's 2nd goal was offside. I'm over here complaining that the officials called Hayley Irwin's goal back and that suspect Penalty shot call. It goes both ways americans

Jonathan Toews. Will he be a HOFer when it is all said and done?

Wayne Gretzky was born to play hockey. Whitney Houston was born to sing. Gordon Ramsay was born to cook.
Will Ferrell was born to star on SNL. My god is that man good!

This is horrible. I was rooting for Finn! Jeez, I thought a 14 year old would have better judgement than that....

Even if GMJB doesn't come back, he will always be the GM who laid out the foundation for our 1st Stanley Cup Championship.

jb will have a legacy here no matter what
his drafting and recent acquisition of talented young players through trade will have long lasting effect
he likely drafted our future goalie
our future offense will be a credit to him
he is quite light on what he has done for the defense core..
i think that is what might get him in hot water
an unbalanced rebuild cannot work
look at the oiler dilemma
the d needed to be drafted and developed with demko
drafting now and developing means another 3 years of average hockey
or there will be some significant players on offense traded to get the necessary dmen
and that will make many on cdc quite unhappy
cuz you have to give up top line talent to get high end d talent (d just seem to be worth more overall)

The football gods have not been kind to the state of Georgia the last 12 months.
-
@MJDDawg you gotta respect him though.
I heard a story from a family friend (Bama alum who happens to be in their Athletics HOF) last year that he went down to the practice facility before a practice. His "tour guide"who happened to be a Kin student who was helping with the football team stopped in front of a room and told our friend to wait. He did. When he came out of the room, he was holding some spare tape, so are friend casually said "oh you was just picking up some tape" (to make conversation ). To his surprise, the kid responded with "No, I preparing to win a national championship" and then dropped off the tape when the passed the therapy room. Everyone involved with that program buys into what Saban is doing. From the Star tailback to a low level trainer.

The Nurse family has a ridiculous set of jeans. Donovan McNabb(NFL QB), Richard Nurse(CFL WR), Kia Nurse(TC and UConn Point Guard) , Darnell (D for the Coilers), and Sarah Nurse (who just made the women's olympic hockey team).

Its snowing for the first time this year and I have 2 exams today. Can't tell if its a good or bad omen.
