I would love to get Zegras or Byram even if it means trading up.

I agree. Thomson was good rigjt out of the shoot this year. Some kids need time when they come to north America but he looked really good. Will be interesting to see what his draft club does with him now that he bolted back to Finland instead of playing for a memorial cup host.

JB: I’ll make the phone call about the 1st overall pick
High and Inside replied to Generational.EP40's topic in Canucks Talk
I would do a deal for the first overall pick even if it includes boeser or horvat. As long we keep our pick at 10. Boeser is RFA so having a top line center at the start of entry level fits our timing better. I would never overpay for the first and Boeser and Horvat are proven talents so we’re not giving them away so basically only if it’s a fair deal. -
2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC

Hopefully by the time 10 rolls around we see Turcotte or Zegras. The only one I don’t want is Krebs. -
I agree with your points. I thought he was a very hard worker. I know people who work in both the WHL and the AHL and it's an extremely different pace. The AHL is not an offensive league and players are grown men that are simply bigger and stronger. I remember listening to an interview with Kole and he basically said he had to learn how to cook, grocery shop and all the things you have to do now that you don't have billets. Every player is going to adjust at a different pace. It's pretty much a given that from age 18 to 22 these kids are going to get considerably stronger and Lind has the skill part already. Time will tell but I think too many people are rushing judgement. I also don't have a problem with Lind and Gadjovich playing limited minutes. What kinda coach is going to sit his best players and say here Kole and Jonah the first line is yours. You earn your way up.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC

Obviously it would be nice to win the lottery but I see a lot of good picks in this years top 10. Outside of Kakko and Hughes my picks would be either Turcotte or Byram. Although we need defence we equally need another elite top 6 forward so BPA it is. There is always this scenario too? Say we lose the lottery it might actually be worth trading down? Depending how far the Canucks would be willing to drop you could probably get 3 solid prospects back and quantity for this team would actually help. -
I feel for Mikey that he had such a rough start but I think everybody is making too big of a deal over this. He wasn't called up because he earned it,. Mikey was up with the team based on default and everybody including himself knew he was in over his head. If anything this situation might even help him as he now knows how much work he has to put into succeed as pro. I'll be the first to admit I wanted him to play a game on this call-up and I think others would say the same. I don't blame management or Mike for anything. Also failing miserably once is never going to ruin a career. I laugh at those people that think that.

I don't think anybody can really know his longterm outlook at this time. Lind from his time in junior clearly showed elite skills in terms of a being a shooter and a playmaker. Natural ability is always going to be of importance. What we don't know today is how strong the kid is going to be and how his body will adapt to the pro game. Every player is going to do these at a different pace. It's reasonable to expect him to get a lot stronger and quicker over the next 2-3 seasons. That's called development. I'm very confident he will have a great pro career but I'm willing to give it time before I label what type of player he will eventually become.

Really well written! I agree he has a great vision for the game. Your right about his playmaking ability but what I like is that teams won't be able to over defend the sniper on the line because Lind can still burn goalies with his shot. Your right too about the intangibles Kole possesses, if you watch his last interview on the Rockets website the reporter asked him if Tri City was getting under there skin and he just had this big grin on his face saying he likes to do the exact same and definitely a pain on the ass to play against. I also like his you can't stop me attitude. I pretty much went to every Rockets game this year and he impressed me almost every night. There is a reason scouts watch games instead of looking at box scores.

I didn't watch the prospects camp but he absolutely stood out in the Young Stars tournament. Had 3 points in his debut. That's tournament is good hockey and can be a springboard for some guys. I remember Troy Stetcher riding it right into an NHL job.
-
He has 6 points in 3 games

I never said they were entirely comparable but the way they rush the puck up the ice is very similar. Within the junior level it's to take advantage of weaker players especially if your a good skater. They both have potential but it will take time.
-
I like how Kole projects as a good power play forward that can play the half board. Generally a good power play is unpredictable and with guys like Boeser, Petterson and Lind we can make it hard to defend with equal playmaking and shooting ability. Add in a net presence with Gadjovic and maybe some how we can manage to draft Rasmus Dahlin we would have all the ingredients.

I didn't think Dube was very good at all. Took some unnecessary penalties and wasn't very good in ho own zone. I watch Kelowna every game and kind of try to see how Dube and Lind project comparison wise as they were both second rounders and drafted within in the same division. I think Vancouver got the much better player then Calgary got. Dube actually reminds me a bit of Virtanen. They both liked to rush the puck up the ice and really were able to outmatch junior guys. The problem is it doesn't transfer over as well to the pro game. Kole is more of a complete player as you have to respect him as a playmaker and a shooter. Lind reminds me of a Jamie Benn or a bit of Filip Forsberg.

I was at the game tonight and it was a crazy Western Hockey League game. Unfortunately the rockets lost 9-7 but man what passion Lind showed. The kid was absolutely jacked tonight and he tried to will his team to victory but it wasn't enough. He had a beautiful snipe to start the scoring and would later add a second goal on a tip in and seeing the excitement and emotions that come out on his celebrations really tell you how much this guy enjoys playing hockey. Canuck fans are going to love Kole. There is a reason you don't scout on paper as you wouldn't see the intangibles players like Kole possess. Clutch, relentless, passionate, would be a good start to describe Lind and Canuck colours on him are going to look good.
-
I think Lind has a great chance to be a top player in Utica next year which would only help his development towards being a NHL regular one day and if you look back the Rockets have a great track record of developing players into the big leagues. Nick Merkley a teammate of Lind from last season is tearing it up in the AHL as a rookie and I feel like their trajectory is similar and if Lind has the same success Merkley is having it's going to tremendous for the Canucks. Both players were drafted very closely, their WHL numbers are close, developed by the same team and both had to deal with a disappointing cut from team Canada. Merkley did have a major injury to deal with in the junior leagues but Lind still out scored him over the full season at a younger age. im thrilled as a Canucks fan that we got Lind where we did because his future his bright.
-
You know it seems every year a good skilled player gets cut from the team and the Hockey Canada brass uses the line we wanted players that had good size and play physical. I don't understand this logic. When has one of these bigger less skilled players actually been a difference maker? It's clearly a skill tournament and I don't think other teams get intimidated by these bigger guys. Obviously Canada won gold so you can argue that whatever decision they made was right but at the same time we only needed one win against an equal opponent to win gold. You look at a skill guy like Middlestadt and this tournament is made for him. I would still much rather have Suzuki or Lind on the team versus Gadjovic.
-
I think he might go a little higher then Cal once he gets drafted. Nolan has top 10 written all over him. Would be killer if Vancouver could land him eventually. Blood lines are strong in that family and I have no doubt Cal and Nolan will be terrific NHLers!
-
Pretty much! JB is better picking outside the top 10 oddly enough.
-
Really? Have you watched both play regularly? I certainly have and Kole has a much higher skill level. Lind is hard to defend because he shoots as well as he passes, is a decent skater and can be agitating to play against. Glass to me is just a playmaker that sees the ice decent but looks awkward as I don't like his skating. I would take Kole over Cody in a redraft.
-
Right! Honestly EP might end up being the best out of the top 5. Brilliant. We've drafted the perfect balance of skill, speed, size.. We got good goaltending prospects and now we just need a number 1 dman. Please Dahlin!!!!
-
Plus add Elias to that list and you got 3 for sure! To have three pro forwards homegrown out of one draft would be absolutely huge. Will see though as nothing is guaranteed.

I think they really liked Makar too. I hope they would have traded down if they won the lottery but I doubt it. They would try and sell a first overall pick to this market.
