  1. I was merely using it as an example of how contracts are formulated. And how it all has relation to both millers and Horvats contractual situation. But for the third time I’m not in the long term contract corner anyway. Cheers.
  2. Well the Erickson example might not have been good but what about Myers? It seems the only way they attracted quality players was to attach term. And if jr has damaged the Canucks reputation,as rumoured then their reclamation path seems like it could be the only way. Short of relying on draft.
  3. I simply used the Erickson contract as an example of how it could go sideways and sideways from the money end and term end of things. And so from that what other means does a gm have at their disposal other than recent point totals and recent trajectory. It’s not a sure bet when relying on past performance to it translating into future expectation.
  4. I guess you never looked closely at the stat sheets I provided. If you look at millers prior 3 seasons and Horvats as well you would have recognized who’s trajectory was consistently drawing upward. Guess what it wasn’t miller. By recent I mean starting at horvats shortened 56 game COVID season with 19 goals to that point and surely would have amassed 10 to 15 more if 26 more games were played. Horvat was trending upward millers same recent time frame to so much.
  5. If I wanted to nitpick I would’ve pointed to millers 2018 19 season which fell well below his avg at 47 pts in 75 games but I didn’t until now
  6. I’ll cut no slack for horvat. At all, simply because of the term demand. And I’d wager out of the 2 players taking LESS term miller would likely be the one Signing for less term. But I’ll say it again I don’t like these long term contracts period. But in rutherfords defense he never actually witnessed how the Erickkson deal played out. But he went down the same path. I also think not being able to deal miller had some bearing on horvat being dealt. Meaning he didn’t want to make the same mistake twice.
  7. Miller played 662 games accumulating 479 goals. Horvat played 597games amassing 392 goals falling short 87 goals over 65 fewer games. your nit picking.
  8. If the deal the Canucks got in horvat is indicative of the deal that Rutherford failed to get with miller that probably had some relation to the deal that was struck? Either way I don’t like these hampering long term contracts. Less term shouldn’t be an issue if players like the environment their in. Further to that if Horvats new deal is comparative to something that could have been achieved here then it’s obvious horvat simply wanted out. And his statement of “ I thought I’d be a Canuck forever” was nothing but sugar coating.
  9. As much as I liked Boudreau ,if there’s truth in the country club thing. I think Tocchet turns it around. The similarity that’s not discussed is Tocchet like Boudreau is also a players coach and likely more vocal in defense of his players. I like the direction/plan. Given the directionless team its moving away from.
  10. Don’t get me wrong I do like miller it’s the other parts. The obvious ones. That if improved on would be far more palatable in the term he’s signed for and yes I’ll agree it’s not impossible for him or bo to sustain the point production but those 2 issues for me is the unknown. And I’ll not sway my stance until he proves otherwise. That said if Tocchet can’t get him to man up no one can. And when I say man up that’s with reference to his immature emotions, he won’t garner the respect he’s looking for until he addresses it.
  11. @SilentSamyou had mentioned trajectory if you look at both players last 3 seasons starting with the 56 game COVID season Horvats upward trajectory is just that upward. While millers isn’t. These pics aren’t up to date as I copied them at Christmas but it’s plan as day who was trending upward if you look at both career totals Horvats numbers are lower but more consistent kind of tortoise vs rabbit comparison but millers is far from consistent
  12. He might want that rural thing having a young family. One thing I noticed travelling thru the area is its spotless clean as opposed to parts of nyc
  13. I’ve been there but only travelled through Long Island. It’s hard to tell one jurisdiction from the next. For me it was all urban sprawl
  14. The only 2 gigs in elmont ny are Belmont stadium. (Belmont stakes) and the new rink beside it. otherwise it’s just residential housing as far as the eye can see. And it’s all traffic to nyc comparable to say Langley to downtown van.
  15. One thing to be sure is he won’t have to contend with dumbass media types in Elmont ny. He automatically becomes another face in the crowd. I’ve watched several islander vlogs. And in the comments section there’s usually 10 or so responses. Whereas Shannon the hockey guy gets a few hundred local responses immediately. He might welcome the obscurity of his new city?but he also might miss vancitys vibrancy
  16. Exactly. All of what you say. But Elmont NY is a pretty much residential housing. In the burbs of southern nyc. Not the most exciting place to be stuck for 7 yrs coming from BC. Be careful what you wish for like I said before. What ever literal direction he’s heading for he’ll get his money. And it’s starting to look like that’s all his stance was all about the whole time.
  17. If it was only 250k more spread out over 7 yrs. 1.7 plus less taxes. It’s like someone offering you $40 per/hr in Alberta or 37.50 in BC it certainly wouldn’t be much of an increase, factoring in he went to a worse team. I think he waits and gives himself until TDL LL might not want that tho. Either way he’ll get the $. Just not where he’d prefer landing? Its good the team isn’t locked into another anchor contract. Unless they move miller. Which would completely fall into their mantra of “ major surgery” cough cough myers OEL
  18. At least Rutherford didn’t sign another ridiculously long contract. The last one remaining is more than enough. And willing to bet any new mngmt group coming in will also be sick of it. I figure around year 4.
  19. I hear you. Everything I posted could be construed as hating miller. Which I don’t. And I also do hold out hope he can channel that emotion. Whether he viewed Delia as an expendable short term stop gap player, wasnt a good look. That’s not to say Delia wilted like some kind of wimp. Players get to the level they have ,taking verbal lumps all the time. But it also shouldn’t be a habit of one of the veteran leaders to get comfortable falling into. The last thing anyone needs is younger players tuning him out. And by all accounts this team is getting younger.
  20. It’s conjecture. If rutherford based signing miller off last years total, And judging miller by this years production that’s not a good start to a high or a relatively steady trajectory expectation. Horvats trajectory well lower was gradually upward whereas historically millers in comparison was up and down, also when considering the Canucks are retooling/rebuilding call it what you want , both horvat and miller for the next few yrs achieving similar #s is a pretty high expectation. Also Factoring in horvat wont be around to help miller.
