  1. Without going down the rabbit hole that is the butterfly effect, wouldn't that roster be about $15m over the cap? But yeah Virtanen >>>>>>>>>>> Juolevi in terms of disappointment on and off the ice.
  2. Maybe I'm missing something, but if Tanner is back and only Poolman is on LTIR the current roster is nearly $2.5m over the cap. Given the maximum buriable is $1.15m they'd need to send 3 players down leaving a roster of 22 including Mikeyev. Would need to send another down to fit Podz on the team too. All the players on Cap Friendly's roster would need to clear waivers, though I'm not convinced our waifs are that appealing to other teams anyway. So technically they can be compliant but it doesn't leave a lot of room. Guessing they are going to make a move, but doesn't necessarily have to happen before day 1.
  3. He was an early 1st round pick, was just a fluke that Edmonton drafted him, he would've got a chance at the NHL regardless and he doesn't owe Coilers anything. He wants another contract, if he's not signed that won't be leaving on his terms. Maybe I'm just being a downer but hoping for unearned generational wealth seems a bit weird too. Also he tied that record with 99
  4. Fair point. In my addled brain I thought Gadjovich had played much more than 1 game for Van, but internet says otherwise. Maybe PA is playing 4D chess and the only reason Woo wasn't called up last season was to sneak him through waivers this year. Incidently, I'm assuming Jonah's 17 PIM/GP is a Canucks record?
  5. Will he though? I hope Woo can become an NHLer, but at this point he's doing okay in the AHL and hasn't even made his debut for the big club. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't imagine there will be that long a queue for him until he's proven at this level.
  6. Tiger EP Bure Lumme Bieksa McLean Miller's probably the superior goalie, but better memories from Kirk' s era. Plus I couldn't bear leaving money on the table.
  7. Hmmm, maybe if Myers has a great season up until the TDL but I don't see it tbh. We'll revisit this in the Spring, if it turns out I'm wrong and he gets more than a 3rd I owe you a Coke.
  8. I'd be willing to swap them back, with retention on their end of course
  9. Beau was a cap dump when we acquired him, nothing has changed since. Brock and Garland are slightly overpaid for what they bring, in a flat cap world that's a big issue. If management could've got assets for any of them they'd be gone already.
  10. That's a pretty big assumption on your part. He might need help, he might be having an amazing amount of fun. I don't know either way
  11. Nope nope. I think you're confusing the compliance buyouts with arbitration buyouts.
  12. I don't think Garland and Boeser are too far off market value, but it's enough to make them tough to move. Myers obviously is but, in JB's defence, the timing of his signing was quite unlucky. At the beginning of 19-20 the cap was 81.5m, it's now 83.5m a rise of less than 2.5%. If the cap had gone up by the same amount as the years leading up to that season it would now be over $94m and there'd be an extra $340m potentially on offer across the league. Obviously not all teams spend to the cap, but the floor raises would be proportionate. In my alternate universe they'd all be movable or maybe even worth keeping. Would still be crazy to trade for OEL in 2021 though. Basically, through the power of maths, I've discovered that something really bad happened in 2019-20 that really screwed the Canucks cap management. As soon as I work out what it was someone's going to pay.
  13. Wasn't he on a 1-way in Van? Not that he was necessarily offered that again, but potentially a 250k wage cut. Still has more money than I'll ever see, so he'll probably be alright.
  14. Not sure depth players signing league minimum contracts really screams 'in demand' and I don't get how they have any relevance to Boeser, Myers, or Garland who are paid 6-9x as much. Bold prediction - most/all of these ex-Canucks will be available on (and probably pass through) waivers.
  15. 28+1=29 Though I still wouldn't trade for him.
  16. I don't think you understand how LTIR works. Unless JB gets hired somewhere, I can't see OEL getting close to $3.5m this season.
  17. Yeah, obviously. This is probably not the place to explain how I'd reorganise the whole of society, but if I could control the NHL all the teams would be owned by the fans, ticket prices would be affordable, beer would be under $10, and the games would be on free TV. Players would still earn a good living and their would be more connection between the team, the fans, and the wider community. As an added bonus FA, Bettman et al could all f off.
  18. You always take issue with what statement? I'm not saying the owners should get paid millions of dollars either. I don't think anyone should be paid $8m a year, but I'd rather JT got it than Aqulini. Millionaire sportsmen and billionaire owners are both symptoms of our dysfunctional society, but the owner class are far more egregious and undesirable.
  19. In 2005 Naslund signed a 3x6m contract. Obviously it's a much shorter deal, but he was a couple of years older and already past his prime. At the time the cap was only $39m so, assuming my quick calculations are correct, that would be $12.8m today. Bure signed a 5x5m deal in 1994. Pre-salary cap so not really comparable but even if he signed the exact deal in 2005 he'd still be getting close to $11m as a proportion of the 23-24 cap. Realistically he'd probably get closer to $7m at the beginning of the cap era, which would work out as $15m today. So yeah JT ain't no Naslund or Bure and that's why he's getting two thirds of their money. Personally I don't think anyone should get $8m a year, but in today's NHL Miller's contract is fine.
  20. Yeah I hated how JB never signed his 1st round picks to ELC /s
  21. Or he's doing something more important with his right hand...
