2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
Camel Toe Drag replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I think it's funny how he definitely fits the bill of a "high risk/high reward pick" and his high school team is the "gamblers" -
Team toughness comes with swagger which comes from a winning environment. If you look at the current dynasties like Pitt and Chi they don't have a lot of fighters or big bodies but they have developed a history of winning and high compete level. Guys that are willing to stand up for the success of their team. You don't need to have designated tough guys or hired goons to win games. Atleast not anymore. You play hard in between the whistles and carry yourself with a certain confidence. That is hard to teach but you can see it in the Crosby's and Toew's. It's about believing in winning and doing whatever it takes. Our young core will have to learn that, and it might take a couple years of getting bullied and being the new kids on the block. The star players that have the passion to win usually have the same passion to pushback if their opponents tempt them. Examples: Benn, Perry, Iginlia, Marchand, Bergeron, Burns, Malkin, Carter, Kesler, Toews, Koivu... My point being that teams that have players with pushback usually stem from their star players and core. They set the tone and the culture for their team. It takes time and experience to earn this swagger and pushback. Having Cram, Try, Gud, and Labate is plenty at this point.

Makar falling to the kings would be scary as well. Not too mention Foote going to Nashville. -
I like Brocks chances.

Woah name change! lol I have to admit I have been following th devils pretty closely as well. They did get a point the other night and their end schedule doesn't look too too bad. -
Not too many guys can snap it to the back of the twine from that far out. I have a feeling we're gunna get used to seeing him score from there.

take it with a grain of salt... -
Wow not a dry eye after that one. Amazing to have such a character kid and great human apart of this organization moving forward. You can tell Brock "gets it". I have to ask, and his is in the most respectful manner possible but is his father diagnosed with something? He seems like a sweet, sweet man but I couldn't help notice some symptoms...

He's excellent at making space for himself. His skating and stability just needs to catch up with him. But I agree, he'all be a player who will make his linemates better. He's got a very high ceiling.

Ahahahah good one

Sooooo shall we take this party to the player thread?

To your point exactly this draft isn't necessarily about grabbing "that" player as they all have similar upside and ceilings relatively speaking imo. It will be about who developed and prepared their player chosen from this draft the best in 2-3 years down the road. I can see any of the C's in the top 10 developing into something significant for their clubs IF developed and nurtured the right way. I agree that none of this years crop is NHL ready but there is a a good number of players who have the skills and raw makeup to make an impact once they are NHL property and get the tools to succeed. This years draft propect is a dish best served cold. -
I guess let's wait and see then eh
-
It wouldn't be rushing him if he stayed in Van. If we put Jakob Stukel on the team, that would rushing someone.
-
Why? I know it's a small sample size but he looks NHL ready. We need to score more goals, and he definitely brings that to the team. His play in all 3 zones looks fine. If anything he will need to polish up his skating with Bo this summer. I'd also prefer he didn't interact with Virtanen juuuussst yet
-
I hear ya. It seems fairly evident that Juolevi is done with the OHL. I think he needs a challenge. I would say Europe or NHL. I feel he would be fine because of just how smart he is. Obviously he'll be training and getting bigger with the Canucks staff along the way too. You. We'd to push your boundaries in order to grow and that's what needs to happen with Olli.
-
Let's see that howeee from the office on pp2. That's a weapon the Canucks have been missing since Kesler.

Goldy, and Boeser should spend the summer skating with Bo.
