Not playing the way we saw him play in the K. Looks tentative and not his usual dog on raw meat self. Maybe nerves right now but he needs to have that confidence to be effective.

I don’t think they’re even in the same stratosphere in terms of ceiling. If anything I think you would trade Rathbone for a nice return. And if he keeps progressing you would definitely be getting something of value back. Hughes is too special.

Miller can take face offs but he should still play on Petey’s flank. Pettersson is a beast offensively and defensively and knows where to be. It’s a matter of playing minutes at the end of the day. Dickinson is going to be out out for tough matchups. This is because he’s grea defensively and we want Horvat to have more freedom offensively especially now with some new pieces (Garland, Hogs, Podz). It doesn’t matter what number you put on the end of “line”. Dickinson will be one of the top players in regards to TOI on our roster. With that being said if Dickinson is going to be a shutdown guy (which he will) then you need to give him better linemates. He’s going to be up against the likes of McDavid, MacKinnon, Panarin etc. Let that last line be the energy/grinder players. We now have around 6 guys between here and Abby who can fill that role.

No reason to make Miller a C. We don’t want Horvat as a shutdown anymore. This is why we got Dickinson. If Dickinson is going log as much TOI as I think he will need more formidable wingers. At least Podz.

This list could be measured by: 1. NHL readiness 2. highest ceiling 3. probability of hitting the ceiling. Lockwood - super nhl ready IMO. Along with Podz. You could have them 1 and 2 for NHL ready. Gadj also on the lower end of this spectrum. Klimovich - could be 1 for highest ceiling, maybe along with Rathbone. All in all we have a decent mix of skill and utility. All operating on different timelines too. My dark horse is McDonaugh.

He makes an excellent first pass and almost always makes the right play to exit the dzone. He already plays as steady as some vets. Not to mention he his shot hits the net. He almost always shoots a wrister but it’s accurate and finds the net. He doesn’t need to be a dynamic skater. I agree with @J-Dizzle I thought he was developing and playing just fine last year. Steady and trustworthy is what we want.
