Sounds like the SFA. An old boy’s club.

I was in Dortmund for the Köln game a few weeks ago. Was enjoyable as always, but feels like things have gone a bit stale of late. Watzke’s ego is too big imo. Part of me wonders where you would be if Tuchel hadn’t clashed with him.

    That's exactly what it is.

Yeah, some Ultra groups still aren't back I think. It's a different situation when part of the core setting the tone is missing.

Regarding Watzke: hard to say really. I can't really blame him in the situation with Tuchel. With the things Tuchel allegedly said there was really no other option. Overall a very difficult situation for all persons involved especially with the bus attack. I think from the people who were in the bus during the attack there is hardly anyone left at Dortmund and some players explicitly stated they had to leave because of psychological trauma from the attack (e.g. Marc Bartra). Just shows tensions were running high and everyone was barely holding it together. Plus the pressure from UEFA. There was also another problem between Tuchel and then-chef scout Mislintat. Mislintat left because of clashes with Tuchel. I don't think Tuchel would say those things again nowadays but I don't think there were a lot of options back then.

Watzke already wanted to retire but then the pandemic hit. The club seems a bit unsure about what they have in Kehl who is Zorc's designated successor and now they involved Terzic. Anyway there are big changes coming with Haaland leaving and  Watzke, Zorc, Reus, Hummels, Witsel probably retiring in the next couple of years.

We got a dodgy offside decision the day after so I’ll have to bite my tongue on that

I watched the game yesterday. Totally farcical. It was a joke of a decision not to award Reus the penalty or even look at it. Then to go up the other end and give that when there wasn’t a single appeal… I genuinely don’t think any other team would have got those decisions yesterday.

Zwayer has always been a poor referee. I suspect Bellingham will find himself in hot water for his comments.

I hope he gets away with a fine. Ridiculous enough for saying the truth though I expect a suspension. Corrupt bunch of clowns that is the DFB / DFL. Had my fair share of experience with them as a youth coach. Ref lied to my face and the board at the first hearing. Of course the board believed him instead of 5 witnesses. Ruling got overturned in second instance in the end, but still...

  3. Don't see Haaland leaving for Newcastle. He loves playing Champions League. It's what he plays for. Clubs not playing in the UCL probably won't even be considered by him. Some reports even saying he's thinking about staying here for another year because he likes the speed at which he's developing here. But I don't know if that is much more than wishful thinking. He's a different breed and other than the UCL thing I find it hard to foresee what he will do next summer. It will also depend on club's needs. Haaland is still much more a player for the counter attack than Lewandowski for example. Lots of reports as well about him having a release clause or not with different amounts mentioned. Plus his agent Raiola is notorious for cashing in big for himself and his client. 30m € for Raiola alone for that transfer + a fixed amount for Haaland in the same realm at the time of the transfer + the money Dortmund will get (probably north of 75m €) + Haaland's salary (the amounts @Wolfgang Durst mentioned are pretty realistic). Not a lot of clubs can pay that. Don't think even Bayern can (or at least will want to) pay that.

@Lateralus91@Tornado Just reading about the flooding in your part of the world. Hope all is well

    Stay safe brothers

Had to move south for a job a year ago, nothing happened here or at my hometown. No family or friends got hurt. One friend's house was flooded. Thankfully he and his family were visiting his nonna in Naples at the time. Basement and first floor were flooded. They just bought the house last year. Now they were given a flat by their hometown to live in for the time being. One thing great to see is all the people (and companies) that are helping though.

I'm cheering for England now that France is out. I'm curious though as to why Southgate isn't starting Sancho. Sure, Saka and Grealish are doing a splendid job but Sancho is a playmaker and can make things happen whenever he's out on the pitch. Oh well. Sterling and Kane have been well. Excited to see how deep this team can go

Edit: also, Sancho is a Red Devil. I've been waiting for it to happen for a while and it has finally been confirmed

As a Dortmund supporter I'm glad the saga is finally over. I knew Twitter can be toxic and all but the Man Utd Twitter mob was something I've never seen. Ignorant, arrogant, oblivious, presumptuous are the nicer words I can find for that lot.

I wish Jadon all the best, he's been a heck of a player for us and he's grown a lot as a person. At the same time I can honestly say I've found a new club to hate and wish all the worst to Man Utd.

As far as replacements go it seems we are in for Donyell Malen and / or Noni Madueke from PSV. Malen would fit the Rose scheme of two strikers and is not a direct replacement for Sancho. Madueke would be more of a winger/dribbler type like Sancho. On the other hand we still have Reyna and Knauff on the wings who I expect to step up their game this year.

You have to game the system slightly as a smaller nation, who you play and when it’s critical to ensure you are maximising your ranking points. The Swiss have a whole department dedicated to this and they take it seriously.

breaking into the top 50 isn’t going to be easy as ahead of you, you have some decent teams, Costa Rica, Cameroon, Ivory Coast etc

Haven't seen anybody discuss the ranking at length until this discussion here. It's nice as a rough estimate on the strength of teams. Otherwise I find it pretty useless.

Lewandowski close to setting the record.

Bayern celebrates ninth straight Bundesliga title by routing Gladbach

BERLIN -- Bayern Munich clinched its record-extending ninth consecutive Bundesliga title without even kicking a ball, then celebrated with a 6-0 rout of Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Robert Lewandowski's hat trick lifted his season tally to 39 goals, just one off the all-time record of 40 by Bayern great Gerd Muller in the 1971-72 season.

Bayern was already assured of the title thanks to old rival Borussia Dortmund beating second-placed Leipzig 3-2 earlier.

"I think it's the first time in history that the German champions were crowned in the bus," Dortmund coach Edin Terzic said.

Bayern moved the celebrations to the field.

Lewandowski got the newly crowned champions off the mark in the second minute and Jamal Musiala pulled the ball back for Thomas Muller to score the second goal in the 23rd. Muller crossed for Lewandowski to score his 200th goal for Bayern with a scissors kick in the 34th, and still the home side looked for more.

Lewandowski set up Kingsley Coman for the fourth before the break, then completed his hat trick with a penalty in the 66th.

Bayern ended the game with 10 men after Tanguy Nianzou was sent after a VAR consultation for taking down Breel Embolo as the last defender in the 73rd.

It made no difference. Serge Gnabry set up Leroy Sane to complete the rout in the 85th.

Unreal season from Lewandowski. Well, I guess I still prefer Bayern winning over Leipzig, so...

I’m pretty sure the super league would have had a limit on that

Which meant that the investors of those clubs get more money instead of UEFA. Hooray.

Don't get me wrong. I 100% agree on your UEFA take.

The only solution to more competition in my opinion is to give smaller clubs more from the pot than they are getting at the moment.

All Top 5 european leagues are ridiculously top heavy, including the EPL. The EPL however has the luxury of a billion dollar TV contract + 6 teams at the top and comically bad management in some of those clubs which makes for a more even playing field.

  9. My favourite takes so far:

    Spoiler

It's a disgrace and the ultimate pinnacle of oligarchy. Football in Europe should be open to everyone, not an elite club of a few rich clubs. Kudos though to making FIFA and UEFA look like the saviours of football. I hope my club will withstand the calling for that construct and the financial pressure it puts on clubs not participating and remain in the Bundesliga.

Leipzig isn’t a money first team though. The German system stops that happening a club can only ever be 50% owned with the rest being by fans I believe. they have made exceptional and smart decisions on players, development and coaching philosophy and they are repeating the rewards

Maybe not a money first team, but a money first club. They literally wouldn't even exist without it. They bought the license of another club just so they didn't have to start from 10th League or so. The club's sole reason for existence is a marketing ploy. Other clubs use advertising as a means to make money. RB Leipzig however is the means.

    btw Sancho did this today:

You would think that after the Dembele saga that United would have recognized that Dortmund doesn't budge anymore.

I still have a sneaky feeling United will come back in for Sancho with the quoted price before the window ends but good on Dortmund for standing firm and telling them get lost (for now).  Ideally, he stays in Germany for as long as possible...unless he fancies a switch to North London to play with his buddy Reiss Nelson ;)

Just wouldn't make sense for us now. We would get the same, probably more next year and would have to look for a replacement. Zorc has made it very clear again today that Jadon will stay for this season. Reports are Jadon and his agent have accepted the decision.

Doesn't sound like he wants to leave anyway

  12. Following the Sancho transfer saga on Twitter one has to assume that Man Utd fans are the most obnoxious and arrogant bunch in the business.

    ...United holds all the cards...

...Dortmund is broke, they have to sell...

    ...next year, Dortmund gets nothing...

Allegedly Woodward has threatened to walk away from the transfer if we insist on the 120m € we wanted from the beginning. What a threat. Oh no, we'll keep our best player for another year or two...

I hope they re-open hair salons soon before I become a resident of Mulletville.

Here in Germany hair salons and others were allowed to open on Monday. Football matches will be allowed the weekend after next as well. Curious to see if that was the right time or too early. No way back now I guess.
