  1. Did Dr B reduce the social distancing limit again today ? As covid numbers rise in BC our government reduces the most effective measure against Covid - Social distancing.... Only in BC.......
  2. Ridiculous. My mother in law passed away in April. Her death had all the signs of covid. She was tested negatiave for covid and her death was not counted as covid. Fact. Justifying / discounting / lessening the death of Canadians seniors that have built this country.... = sickening.
  3. Did not work quite as well in the USA though ? 189,000 deaths in USA
  4. Ontario's education minister is aiming to reassure parents that his province's school reopening plan is different than Quebec's, where 46 schools have at least one case of COVID-19 since opening. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/covid-ontario-education-minister-stephen-lecce-1.5713905
  5. One week of Alberta schools open.... Since last night's tweet, the grand total of AB schools with confirmed COVID-19 cases has jumped to 16!! 16 different schools - after the 1st week with reports still rolling in (can hardly keep up) See the full list with links at http://supportourstudents.ca.
  6. BC highschool kids are not required to wear masks.....
  7. Sounds very different than what will happen in BC... Teachers and students all wears masks. - half classes of students with temperature checks daily.... Japan, which has mostly kept COVID-19 under control, took a conservative approach to reopening schools in June. Different schools have different strategies, but generally Japanese students attend class in person on alternating days, so that classrooms are only half full. Lunches are silent and socially distanced, and students undergo daily temperature checks. These precautions are more stringent than those in many other countries. Still, some Japanese school children have gotten COVID-19, particularly in major cities. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2020-07-22/how-countries-reopened-schools-amid-the-coronavirus-pandemic

  9. Too bad you are missing the central point of the discussion, Parents and Teachers very much want schools opened up in BC. BUT schools opened up should be done in a way to keep Kids and workers as safe as possible..... Many countries / CDN provinces are incorporating masks, social distancing, temperature checks, plastic barriers, blended learning , online learning, smaller class sizes to increase social distancing, improvements in room ventilation , hand wash stations installed... Typically not in BC though.. Dr. B says she thinks BC students and staff. " SHOULD " be safe... Sounds like russian roulette to many parents and bc voters.
  10. Writer is not in teachers union. Former Superintendent of schools - with a Doctorate in Ed. Leadership.
  11. Interesting Blog... Writer has a doctorate in Ed Leadership i believe.... retired superintendent. BC Has Abandoned Our Teachers Keith Baldrey stated 90% of the teachers want to return to work. I disagree with Keith. I believe 100% of our teachers want to return to work but they want to know that we have done everything we can to protect them and their students. We have not done that. Instead, every level in the system has abandoned our teachers. Here is how: The Minister The Minister set impossible parameters when he insisted that schools must have all students in full time face to face attendance. This limited the creative approaches that could have been developed to ensure the two metre social distancing recommended. It also denied the realities of the preparation that our senior students should have for their future schooling. Every major university in BC has gone to full remote learning. Secondly, the Minister passed the buck to the school boards which will only exacerbate the inequities that already exist in the system. By distributing the federal funds on a per student basis, the small rural, often more impoverished districts will not receive the necessary dollars to provide what the larger urban districts are able to do. Thirdly, the Minister used his press conferences to propagandize rather than answer the questions directly which only led to more confusion. In his last public Q & A he was seen by many to be supercilious which only led to an increased lack of support from teachers who felt insulted. The Public Health Officer Early in the pandemic Dr. Henry was appropriately seen as an incredibly hard working and caring individual who applied all the right precautions to level the curve. Unfortunately, she began to lose that credibility with teachers when she began to act in ways that were political rather than health directed. The classroom ad gave a total misrepresentation of classrooms, showed unintended signs of racism, and created an enormous backlash. When asked about the ad, she tried to justify rather than simply apologize for the concern it caused. She was also responsible for adding cohorts to the re-opening plan at the last minute causing the BCTF to refuse to sign off on the plan. This move was purely for contact tracing and certainly destroyed any sense of keeping one’s bubble small. It also reduced the opportunity for more creative planning of timetabling at secondary schools. The cohort application still remains a mystery to many. The biggest blow to teachers came when, two weeks before school opening, the PHO bent the rules and not the curve! Suddenly, the two metre distancing rule became one metre but only for schools and teachers because the workplace is a ‘controlled” environment. This shows an incredible naivete about how schools operate and how children in school function. This overnight change is applied when our curve is peaking at its highest daily rate of infection. No other workplace has been allowed to operate with these guidelines and teachers feel vulnerable. https://www.rippleleadership.com/post/bc-has-abandoned-our-teachers
  12. What if your kids had elderly grandparents ? Would you then be concerned about you expanding your grandparents bubble by over 100-200 people..... ? Or just tell your kids they can't visit grandparents for a few years...... No concerns ? Yes, Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford are the hot spots for covid right now in BC.....
  13. Today - Bruce Williamson Jr., the lead singer of the Temptations, has died from the coronavirus. He was 49.
  14. Surrey schools are suggesting 95% of parents will be sending their kids. My friend teaches in Mission and says 100% of her class will be attending... Yes school is super important for kids... our government has a duty to ensure it is done in a way that is safe for kids and workers. Kids bringing home covid to their grandparents will also have long term effects.....
  15. A fantastic read from Langley Times. The B.C. government should have forseen a reluctance to return to classrooms The British Columbia government and health authorities have handled the pandemic reasonably well, up until a few weeks ago. There are two issues right now – the rising case numbers, and the botched return to school plans. The increase in COVID-19 cases is alarming, and if not stopped, could undo all the work and effort millions of British Columbians put in. But it was foreseen. Our medical officials warned us there could be a second wave. We were warned not to gather in large groups, that we’d need to keep physically distancing, wear masks when that wasn’t possible, and that our lives would have to change. Which makes the mixed messaging and sudden changes in the return to school so baffling. For the last six months, we’ve heard nothing but the steady drumbeat of physical distancing, physical distancing, physical distancing. Then the very people leading that chant, including provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, said it’s okay to send kids back into classrooms, many of them unmasked, gathering in cohorts of between 60 and 120. So the province expected us to simultaneously adhere to strict physical distancing guidelines, and to send kids straight back into situations that violate those guidelines. Somehow, the province thought that all parents would be able to swallow this cognitive dissonance. When it became clear that there was a low rumble of rebellion, Education Minister Rob Fleming abruptly changed course, which has dumped the huge responsibility of crafting distance learning options on districts and teachers at the very last minute. Educators in B.C. would tell any student that doing your homework at the last minute is a bad idea. The same applies to the B.C. government when it comes to their back to school planning. https://www.langleyadvancetimes.com/opinion/our-view-clash-over-back-to-school-was-avoidable/#
  16. Yes of course you are correct. Young people in BC now just got the message from Dr. B that you can hang out with 30 friends / no masks / 1 metre apart. Maybe not the ideal message to give kids the day before the long weekend...... during a Pandemic .
  17. I could really care less about your opinion TBH..... Wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands.. Covid is a very serious issue here in BC and actually everywhere.....
  18. You would have to be pretty daft to not see the NDP plan of having Dr. B reduce social distancing guidelines the weekend before kids go back to school. Dr. B should stick to science and not let herself get pulled into politics. She /we had a great start in March / April. Shame to see it all p.... ed away by sending mixed messages to BC young people.
  19. A further 2,988 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the UK in the past 24 hours, government data showed. It is the highest number reported on a single day since 22 May and a rise of 1,175 on Saturday, according to the UK government's coronavirus dashboard. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-54050342
  20. Sounds like Dr. B is starting to look and sound more and more like a politician.... Science should come before politics though.... Interesting how she thinks 30 highschool kids in a classroom is a controlled environment. How many contacts do those 30 kids have every weekend...... hundreds... or thoussands... ? Always more convincing when your chief doctor uses the expression " PROBABLY should be fine " Young people are tuning out her. mixed messages. Dr. Bonnie Henry announced Thursday that one metre instead of two is acceptable in controlled environments where a limited number of people are together for an ongoing period of time, such as in classrooms. "Two metres is better but with the same people that you are with on an ongoing basis, one metre is probably fine for most of your interactions," she said during a news conference. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/cohort-isolate-covid-1.5712406
  21. Even dogs can detect when things don't smell the way they are supposed to....... Dogs are very perceptive..... BC citizens less so..... Wear a mask and socially distrance 2 metres - save lives....
  22. Try working out, it will lower your stress... Diet changes can also help.... Sleeping consistently is another great tip. PS - it is a fact that our Dr. B posted the day before the long weekend that BC ciitzens can socially distance less now going forward. Was 2 metres... and is now only 1 metre. Pandemic is getting worse here in BC and our Doctor is advising people to socially distance less...
  23. I disagree. I have all kinds of time per week for in person discussions through my work / my rec hockey teams / friends. CDC discussions are just another form of discussion but done alone from my home and at a time that can be 5 minutes or an hour.. So more flexible. Forums like this do not replace in person discussions / socializing.
