I like GORDIE HOWE story. He and his sister got a second hand pair of skates to share as kids. So Bobby and sister each had i skate to use. They learned to skate on 1 skate with a shoe on the other foot..... After a few months.... i think he convinced his sister to give him her skate... So he had 2 to use. Amazing story of coming from a not well off family and having the drive to excel. I think i got the story more or less correct.

yah i thought a mask was 90% about you emiting covid into the air.... and 10% about you breathing in covid. Basically can help in both regards at least somewhat. So i wear the mask any time i am indoors around others.. Wearing a mask to me is mostly about respecting the health of others near me. Just only a little about me protecting myself.

Not really sure about age i learned to skate.. probably 3-4 . Was on my first hockey team at 6 yrs old though. Still playing rec hockey so many years later..... Best sport as it has so little impact on knees and joints. Hockey is probably the only team sport you can play until you are 60-70 yrs old. Truly such an amazing sport.

OK - but i thought masks were more about limiting the amout amount of covid particles emited by potentially sick people..... Did not really think masks were about protecting the user........

Too many BCers can be more Me mentality ( american ) than WE mentality ( other countries )

BC is a very weird place. That is true. Many people here believe in the most current science.... but at the same time, many people do not.
-
Dr B and Horgan do not seem to believe masks work to limit covid transmission....... Soon pretty much every store in Vancouver will make the decision and make them mandatory though.

78 news cases today i believe.....

For many parents they think covid issues in BC classrooms are a real concern for their kids and their families.... While others think covid is a hoax / herd immunity is possible / or a man made virus.... All types of people in this world.....

Wow, such a sad story to read. I simply can not understand why schools would not promote mask wearing. It is done in many countries and reduces infection rates. Sorry to hear about your niece. Our kids deserve so much better.

I agree. Miller trade was very risky deal but has worked out well so far for the club....Great to take a break on the covid discussion as well. thanks.
-
You don't think current closed BC schools are leading to the recent increase in covid infection numbers ? Well OK, i guess we do agree on that. When covid transmission rates are rapidly rising..... i think it is only natural to discuss our government policies on covid prevention.
-
Schools that reopen without PPE / smaller class sizes... in communites that have high covid rates... will see high covid transmission in schools. I am very surprised to read posters that don't see this... or haven't been reading up on this. The more i read on this forum... the more i start to think our province is doomed to the next wave of covid.... Depressing.

100% some individuals in BC are responsible due to poor decision making.... In fact many kids now in BC unfortunately do not have active parents supporting them / advising them. Many kids sadly are basically raising themselves. Do you really think social distancing is possible with 30 kids in a poorly ventilated portable ? Is it wise ? We need to raise the bar high and keep our government responsible for the best decisions to keep our citizens safe. Politicians are paid to lead and make decisions based on the most Current science which changes very quickly with covid.

Absolutely no surprise here... When our government tells kids that they don't need to social distrance in classrooms / portables...that have typically very VERY poor ventilation.... .. 30 kids per room. NO masks even needed.... How do you expect these kids then to act on weekends...? BC gov needed to send out a consistent message. This virus is easily transmitted. Kids need to be 2 metres apart. Good ventilation in rooms. MASKs required. Our government has let us all down with its mixed messages. BC govenment has earned a Fail after such a great start in March / April . We hit a home run the first 2 months and then got over confident - stopped listening to the MOST recent science on covid. Sad that it may put us back to another lockdown. We blew our chance to really limit the Covid in BC. But a big thank you to all those smart BCers that did everything right and made sacrifices to help others... My elderly mom is still kicking.... maybe what everyone did has made a difference. Covid is such a rollercoaster ride... We can't get too high or too low.... just stay focused on staying healthy. distancing, masking up, don't get in rooms with large groups of people.... good ventilation, and hand washing..

Great Read Our interventions to date have largely focused on mitigating the rate of spread, flattening the curve of morbidity. There is no treatment at hand, and no certainty of a vaccine on the near horizon. The fastest vaccine ever developed was for mumps. It took four years. COVID-19 killed 100,000 Americans in four months. There is some evidence that natural infection may not imply immunity, leaving some to question how effective a vaccine will be, even assuming one can be found. And it must be safe. If the global population is to be immunized, lethal complications in just one person in a thousand would imply the death of millions. COVID-19 didn’t lay America low; it simply revealed what had long been forsaken. As the crisis unfolded, with another American dying every minute of every day, a country that once turned out fighter planes by the hour could not manage to produce the paper masks or cotton swabs essential for tracking the disease. The nation that defeated smallpox and polio, and led the world for generations in medical innovation and discovery, was reduced to a laughing stock as a buffoon of a president advocated the use of household disinfectants as a treatment for a disease that intellectually he could not begin to understand. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/political-commentary/covid-19-end-of-american-era-wade-davis-1038206/?fbclid=IwAR1rH6h7zfXUuBVDm0Pq_eUl_QOiCFaUSVbUQJt5rF1A1afn0YtzJjyw6IA

Real leaders adapt and adjust as they get more information. The latest update for BC citizens..... Distance. But not in schools. Wear masks. But not in schools. Keep circles small. But not in schools.

Especially with this news today... yikes.. Skeptics of the notion that the coronavirus spreads through the air — including many expert advisers to the World Health Organization — have held out for one missing piece of evidence: proof that floating respiratory droplets called aerosols contain live virus, and not just fragments of genetic material. Now a team of virologists and aerosol scientists has produced exactly that: confirmation of infectious virus in the air. A research team at the University of Florida succeeded in isolating live virus from aerosols collected at a distance of seven to 16 feet from patients hospitalized with Covid-19 — farther than the six feet recommended in social distancing guidelines. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/11/health/coronavirus-aerosols-indoors.html?referringSource=articleShare

Going back to full classes of 30 kids per class / no masks / no social distraning.... on day 1 during a PANDEMIC with zero time to prep school staffs on safety protocol... Wow , who would would have thought that was maybe not the BEST plan. Hopefully this year the government can even splurge and buy a bottle of hand sanitizer to each class. Looking forward to the next BC election.....

Ontario government has done an outstanding job..... No surprise that soon they will have better covid numbers than us....

#gongshow Stay safe everyone. Wash your hands, stay home if you are ill, socially distance and please wear a mask. These things are simple and really the least we can all do for each other. Schools with no masks... Just one week after schools reopened in a northern Georgia school district, more than 800 of its students and staff have been told to quarantine. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/coronavirus-cases-lead-over-800-quarantine-georgia-school-district-where-n1236364
