  1. I don't think Baer is a top line guy. Virt usually plays left wing but not when he first came up to the NHL. Green started playing dirt on the LW last year where he appears more comfortable. Don't forget about Goldobin. He has first line skill and just needs to bring up his compete level and defensive awareness
  2. I say Virt with Bo makes more sense and I see Gadj as a middle 6C. Though a line of Virt-Petterson-Boeser could be lethal down the line.
  3. Wouldn't be surprised if stetcher has a sophomore slump like Hutton did. Trying to do too much and being targeted on the back end. Hoping he does well but trying to keep my expectations moderate.
  4. When thecanuckway guys write this lol

"If at least five of these guys can play up to their respective potentials in 2017-18, the Vancouver Canucks just might own one of the NHL’s most prolific scoring machines."

Lets be real. Canucks are not going to be good next year as we have no star power. We have past stars and potential future stars but to say we are going to be a leading goal scoring team in the NHL is ridiculous. Sedins are most likely going to be like last year or decline a little more, maybe 30 goals between them. Many other guys like Sutter, Dorsett, Eriksson, Gagner have reached their peak and may be consistent producer at what they are producing now. 17, 8, 20, 15 goals respectively.  And then you have our young up and comers.. Bo, Baer, Gran, Boes?  are the only ones I can see potting around 20 goals. Add all those up and assume everyone performs to their potential and doesn't get injured. Add in the few other goals scored form others and you arrive at roughly 180-200 goals which is just above where we finished last year in NHL goal scoring.

Definitely not a prolific goal scoring club but I am hoping for young guys to truly exceed expectations

I really hope our kids take a step forward, our "expendables" (Gagner, Sutter, Dorsett, etc.) have good years, and our veterans (Sedins, Eriksson, etc.) have down years.

Its obvious why I want the kids to improve. We need them to improve if this rebuild is going to work.

I want the "expendables" to perform well to give them value at the trade deadline so that we can have one final strong draft before actually rising in the standings.

I want the veterans to do poorly so that we can still finish at the bottom of the table and take a franchise changing player which is exactly what our future core needs. We won't win a cup with our prospect group until we gain that top-end elite player and I don't believe we have them yet.

  5. Totally agree with this. Stretcher earned his spot and even though he was sent down he came in and played non stop. I understand that if a guy comes in plays hard he deserves a spot, but theres more to business and asset management then that. In this case it worked out well as Stetcher was able to fill in for an injury(which we constantly have) and played the rest of the year. This should be used with guys like Boeser and Dahlen, let them hone there skills in the AHL and when guys don't perform or get injured call them up if they're playing well. Juolevi is a different case as he can't go to the AHL so I think it may be good to have him in Europe a year so he's completely ready to step in and contribute. Its not like we are one, two or even three players away from competing so therefore let our prospects develop and keep them away from a losing team
  6. Ronaldo gets a 4 game suspension for this

But In the NHL you almost have to kill someone to get suspended four games haha like this

      Tortorella's Rant

tough titties for ronaldo. the guy made 93 million last year.

  7. Jake Virtanen's development is on a longer curve. It means we can pay him less for longer which helps our cap situation. In the league now you need cheaper contracts if you want to compete for cups!
  8. Juolevi can't go to Utica next year. Its either the NHL, London Knights or Europe. One year in Europe and then NHL!
  9. I agree, thats probably the best option as he will be able to come back and step right into the NHL as ready as possible
  10. And Gaunce is now no longer a prospect in the Canucks forums world
  11. In my mind there is no way that Virt starts in the NHL unless he totally lights up the preseason with goals and hits. Viet needs to work on his offensive game and can do that as a top line guy in Utica. Don't forget that next year we potentially have Daniel and Henrik retiring/traded/moving onto a new team, which means theres two spots for our young players to fill but more importantly another top 6 LW spot opening up that Virt can compete for in a year
  12. haha everyone being so hard on an 18 year old kid who's young and immature. Gadj for example seems to be a very mature guy for his age so comparing him to lind at this stage in their respective careers/ages doesn't make a lot of sense. Lind was a potential first overall pick and you aren't that if your not talented. In my mind Benning made a lot of good picks this draft and Lind should not be underrated and compared negatively to other lower picks.
  13. My opinion is that we should continue keeping assets and trading expendable players. Next year is not going to be a good one for Canucks so why not shelter young players for most of it. Send Boeser, Virtanen and Goldy down to Utica to start the year and give guys like Boucher and Rodin a couple months to prove they belong in the NHL. Send Juolevi to europe for a year as well unless one trades Hutton/Edler. Personally Id trade Baertschi as well. Don't see him being in our future. Let Holm start in Utica since he's waiver exempt as well. Sedins-Granlund Baer/Eriksson-Bo-Rodin Gagner-Sutter-Boucher Burmistrov-Gaunce-Dorsett Edler/Juolevi-Tanev Hutton-Guddy Del Zotto-Stetcher Wiercoch
  14. Wonder if Canucks signed Nilsson instead of Miller because he's trade-able while Miller would have demanded a no trade clause....Better to have trade-able assets in a rebuild then not. May have been a contributing factor

    1. JM_

      JM_

maybe.... although I don't think playoff teams would be clamouring for Nilsson this year, maybe next year if he does well this season. Miller got a nice deal from ANA that included term. We were looking for a 1 year deal from Miller, that and being close to his family were the key things imo.

    2. Quantum

      Quantum

I think Ryan Miller actually forced the Canucks hand with the signing. I think Ryan Miller decided on signing in Anaheim long ago and informed the Canucks in early to mid June of his decision, ultimately forcing the Canucks to sign Anders Nilsson. The good thing with Anders is that, like you said, he's on a cheap deal that's easy to trade. The bad news is that goalies are tough to trade so he may not be dealt unless Demko forces the Canucks to make a move next year. It'll be interesting how this all plays out.

    3. mpt

      mpt

Its more like Miller chose going to Anaheim than signing with us, not the other way around

  15. If Gadj proves himself as a third liner could you imagine this Gadj-Gaud-Virt Thats some size speed and skill, if the prove themselves good defensively they'd make a great third line!
  16. Pretty sure Lockwood can't play with his injury
  17. haha Jake wasn't mature and put on 20lbs...of fat. That fat had nothing to due with playing a heavier game but an unhealthy lifestyle. I believe he's going to take a huge step next year by starting in Utica and making the big club!
  18. Canucks should sign Wideman and Jagr too cheap one year deals and flip them at the deadline. Perfect way to acquire more picks while giving kids time to develop in Utica. Trade Dorsett for what you can. Trade Tanev for futures like Liljegrin+Kapanen

    Sedins-Granlund

    Baer-Bo-Jagr

    Gaunce-Burmistrov-Gagner

Bring in the young as the old get traded. Trade Sedins at deadline and resign them for one year.

haha Calgary must have been asking too much, plus they were somewhat in contention for a playoff spot. Also no one said anything about 1st or 2nd round picks. Im more thinking a 3rd or a throw in with another piece. Also if you look at his stats for last year they're fairly impressive.

  19. He hasn't proved anything yet, lets see how he does in training camp to see if he has matured yet. Personally I think he took a good big step last year but that doesn't mean he won't stagnate next year.
  20. My mind set is that Petersson comes in when physically ready which could be when Sedins retire next year. Hopefully Gaudette goes pro then and replaces Sutter after a year in Utica. Its truly incredible what Benning has one with every position. You can really see our main core coming together!
  21. Agreed, unless Benning makes some trades I can see him sending Juolevi to Finland. Also think our guys like Boeser, Goldy, Virtanen, Dahlen should start their seasons in Utica. Give our kids some extra experience before rushing them into the show.
  22. Excited that the management group isn't rushing in our prospects anymore. Sign Eberle and Del Zotto and let guys like Boeser and Juolevi develop more. Patience is going to be key with this rebuild if we want to compete again anytime soon

      Trade Ebs for Vaclav Hamstrung

  23. Also needing to remember that not all prospects develop to their potential. Virtanen is a prime example of this as he currently is trending as a 3rd line winger.
  24. And Boeser, Labate, Molino, MacEwen as well please
