  1. Why are so many folks pro Travis Green coaching the Canucks when a common complaint against Willie was his lack of experience at this level?

If the Canucks are going to go with an inexperienced guy, I'd rather they take a chance on Sheldon Keefe, personally. Though, he may be a little young to be an NHL head coach.

The one upside with Travis Green, which Willie D never had, is that Travis played in over 900 NHL games... so he does have significant NHL experience (Willie D never played an NHL game as a player)... so Travis Green does have a ton of NHL experience as a player which gives him a leg up on how to handle NHL players as they go through their ups and downs.

So that's why I think people are comfortable with giving Travis Green a chance.

Green's also done a great job getting the most out of what has been a bare-bones lineup in Utica at times during the past two years. They somehow made the playoffs last year even with a mass of PTOs on the roster and they're close again this year without much veteran help... he could fit the idea of trying to make a weaker roster appear more competitive than it should be.

I think if we had hired somebody like Lindy Ruff instead of Willie and fired him today the same people would be complaining about the coaching carousel and retreads. Experience is nice, but it's not everything. We need a coach who can develop our young core into a cup contender down the road. If Jim and Trevor deem Travis to be that guy then we should give him a chance. In my opinion we're lucky to still have him in the organization because I think he was pretty close to landing a job last summer.
