Show me an academy that doesn’t, but point noted, though I believe is antiquated. Minor hockey can’t really suddenly become a skills thing or it will lose interest and fade away. (I suspect some in here are beating around the bush about possible subsidies towards the sport to supplement a perceived lack of skill in Canada’s game at the WJ’s. Hockey is expensive. So is horse racing, but If I have to pay subsidy taxes for somebodies hobby entertainment, to produce better international athletes, that will suck) One thing I used to complain about as a minor hockey kid to my few coaches was why we skated lines, circles, whatever, without the puck. Overseas, kids always had a puck. This is where your point grew from, but I think that’s changed. Unless you’re referring to puck skills like that lacrosse move, Canada focuses on skill as much as they can while still embracing the spirit and inclusion of minor hockey.

Disagree. Which contending team in this tourney plays a style which promotes individualism with or without the puck? None. Orr’s point is likely being taken out of context. This is a Canadian team thrown together group against an actual team that’s been together, with their coaching and systems, for months. Canada always gets better as the tournament goes on. Shame they don’t get all the prep time most of their rivals do, such as Russia. These guys must learn learn to play as a team, not individuals. This isn’t an all star game. It’s a hard tourney to win. No player(s) wins it. The best team does.

Brilliant couple of periods by a superior Russian team. Tip you hat or raise your glass in respect for this opponent showcasing the beauty of the sport. That’s Hockey. I might cheer for my favourites in any game, but I watch because I love the sport. Russia is playing awesome hockey. I don’t mind this at all. All Canada has to do is win the 3rd. Move forward. Its a tournament. Shift happens.

I’ve noticed that you often post about coaching. Out of curiosity, what level of hockey have you coached and what level of certification do you have? Not that you need credentials to comment, but to be an expert in something, you should have some exposure beyond what the average person can also do or observe, which is a standard in any professional criticism, IMO. I’ve only coached amateur women’s, my wife’s team, one season. I have other experiences and references to base NHL coaching comments from, but not credentials.
