  1. Don’t complain about the refs tonight after that. Well, not for a shift or two yet
  2. I’m happy with Fanta. Excellent addition for depth. ^ Pretty tough feat for the players when the team is expected to back right into our goalie, collapsing, while McJesus and co come in with speed, etc. Totally the wrong approach against the Coilers. I hope not to see highlights showing the Coilers scoring from the perimeter against flat footed, collapsed Canuck, but it won’t surprise me. East to West passing and one timers, etc. If we see our defending forwards tight to the points tonight, I’d call that progress and a shot at winning. If not, I expect the Coilers to set up and take over with their passing and shooting. The other leading indicator for me is the surrendering of the puck on a dump/chase play, or the ripping low % shots from wide, hoping for rebounds. Not tonight, not against these guys. Do not surrender the puck tonight with low percentage chances or expect to suffer the quick-up capacity of this Coiler’s transition game to their forwards who will take every inch of ice our D will surrender them as they collapse. I’d rather match them in a shootout affair tonight than passively anticipate their transition game.
  3. I spend a lot of time in helicopters in the coast range up around Atlin in the extreme NW part of the province. I’ve lost track of how many openings I’ve seen in the limestone mountains in the area.
  4. Haha, easy now, I get it. Perhaps I should have spent more time as Captain Obvious when I made my post. Kassian might be worth x... after having played with McJesus and co. for the past few seasons. X being, say 4 mill, as you suggest. Is that what he is actually worth? When I suggest a number for him of 2.5, it’s because we can assume that both camps recognize his good fortune, as will 30 other GMs, etc. and that his actual value is situational, almost entirely, if I’m being honest about a player I have a bias for. Kass at 4 mill, not playing well, or in a few years, will make him a target for critics, citing his salary. Kass at 2.5, or similar, keeps him employed in a gravy situation. If he goes for the money elsewhere, because it won’t be in Edmonton because they can’t afford it, he will almost certainly be compared to his contract, expected to match it and without being saved by Jesus, things are going to suck for him, just like your examples. Look at the hate for LE here. Ouch. He could end up waived, miserable and a cap problem for another team at 4 mill. IMO, he’s better off playing out his days on a longer term at a smaller hit on the team that makes his name sound better than it probably should be. Of course, he could also become a revelation and, against the odds, become some kind of perennial 40 point power forward somewhere else, proving he didn’t rely on McJesus and Leon for gravy stats, like Anson Carter once prove to the market. Kass could remain a part of a growing powerhouse of a team or price himself out of the gravy scenario he is currently enjoying. I suppose it will come down to term for him. I hope he signs for 8, but it’s not advisable. Ask LE.
  5. Mantha was caught leaning to throw that ill-advised upper cut and was off balance as JM countered with that spin move. The rest is debatable. IMO, not a dirty slew foot at all, but rather the product of JM spinning to avoid/counter that kind of punch while the refs also played a role, if even just a little. As you very well know Rupert, while on skates, as you spin while grappling in a scrap - you sometimes splay your feet for strength or balance, regardless of if you are trying to tackle a guy to the ground. If your skates hit, or any small bump to the back of your skates sends you instantly off balance. The refs aren’t dumb. They know where and when to apply pressure to get the guys to grab hold so they can contain/stop the punching aspect. They can add weight where you won’t expect it and it causes you to loose balance. When that happens, you tend to grab-on and clutch. Just how it goes. Look at the body mechanics, the feet position and what Mantha was attempting at the same time as Muzzin. Natural result IMO, given the situation. And really, any comments from those who haven’t been in a fight with a 6’5 guy on skates should be taken with a grain of salt, or just ignored, if I’m being honest. At the very least you have to know what it’s like to wrestle on skates with refs on top of you, while the other dude tries to upper cut you with his feet too close together. Lastly, in a fight, you’re out to hurt the guy, period, but not injure him unless something dirty or as dangerous has happened with the guy. If JM did slew foot him, it might happen in a fight with a guy trying to break your face while you are against the boards with a ref holding you. Grey area of instant human instinct/decision, blended into the Code of a hockey fight. Anyone can be a critic, I guess.
  6. I’m planning trips just like this. I’ll be pm’ing you guys.
  7. Please beat the Oilers. I don’t mind losing, but not to the Leafs or the Oilers. Keep your head up, Quinn. Kassian won’t let-up.
  8. https://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/wilderness-resources/stories/massive-newly-discovered-cave-may-be-biggest-canada Check out this article on a cave ‘discovery’ here in BC. Said to be very big. Not the newest of new-news, but something pretty cool in my backyard. Home of the Samsquamch?
  9. Career year coming up. Hope he gets a contract for 2.5x3 or something.
  10. Canned answer - I can appreciate, if not expect that perspective/response. I think he’s earned enough respect for the league and fans to appreciate the achievement in any visiting rink, but possibly most notably in Rogers Arena. I’ve seen a lot of hockey and milestones, after a while, and understanding that there are 82 games played by 31 teams, multiplied by many years, the detail of wishing the milestones were set elsewhere, has kind of worn off for me. I don’t mind watching the games that records are set against the Canucks, perhaps because it’s a preoccupation for the team; a norm. Might as well get two birds stoned at once by witnessing it ‘live’ while watching anyways. Maybe EP will be like Kane, but that’s very unlikely and partly why Kane’s achievement is so special.
  11. The amount of posers on here embarrassingly using buzzwords like “coaching” or systems”, as if they’ve even the tiniest little clue what they’re talking about, is just pathetic. Buzz words. There exists entire threads with topics on coaching, systems and the execution of both, but ZERO times has anything been defined by any of these posers as to what they are critiquing. Glad the WJ’s are beginning so I may take a break from a forum largely existing of folks who don’t know WTF they are talking about while pretending to have some kind of mastery of things on here while talking out of their asses!
  12. As a fan of the game and it’s champions, I’m looking forward to seeing if Kane will hit 1000 points during their upcoming game against the Canucks. I’d like to be watching, I mean. I think he sits at 984 or something and since he is scoring at close to a point per game pace, I can imagine that in 16 games or so, when Kane plays the Canucks, it’s a possibility to hit the 1000 mark. Terrific career for this guy. Unless you automatically hate all rivals, you have to tip your hat to the 1000 point mark, especially when it’s under 1000 games played. In the cap era, only a few, household names have done it, but how many have won as much or played as much hockey over that stretch as Kane? 87, 71. #8 hasn’t won as much, but he is the only other guy to hang with them. Thornton, kinda sorta, but from a different era and trophy case. Kane, Crosby, Malkin. Super-duper stars of this decade. Prepare to tip your hat ... or raise your glass...
  13. Beat a tired Pens team. The Canucks “held” them without a shot in the first, but really, it’s was more to do with the Pens playing horribly than some shield wall of the Canucks. Glad to earn a win from the adventure of a game, at least the first half (I only watched half the first half). The Pens penalty kills in the first were awful. I haven’t seen anything like that in years. Glad the Canucks capitalized while they could. This team has its brilliantly-bright spots, but the dawn of something great for this team remains a good ways off, I think.
  14. B Tanev is fast! I’ve predicted a 4-1 Canucks win and EP getting 3 points. I’m not going to finish watching though, family hot tub party thing instead for December 21st. I hope Horvat gets a goal. Merry/Happy, everyone!
