Could be the caption for that sweet sig of yours. When hockey teams at any level win their championships, I get emotional and it’s hard to hide. I respect how difficult of a journey it is for the team and each of its components, plus all of their individual sacrifices, like you say here. When you lose or have your career ended, that’s also a place I deeply respect. Interestingly, we can look in any NHL Talk player retirement thread and see which posters are there to pay those respects. Sven has acted with dignity and integrity throughout this process. I don’t forget how difficult it must be for him as a person, especially going from modelling hats for the franchise to Utica... which I work back into my point on using him like that, despite him being a transitional asset on a rebuilding team the past few years. (Could have spared the guy, I’ve thought, with going from poster boy to stick boy)

This, ... is hockey, the kind I understand. On a “fan forum”, I get why people say silly, clappy fan-things, but I come from a different place and understanding of the game and the life of hockey. I can recognize the others on here too. Even Guardian was one of a very few on here who knew the game beyond the cheering and google parts, not to sound like a jerk to those who are merely “fans” of the game, lacking the actual blood ties to it.

I’ve always cringed when teams played their top 6 forwards or stars on the PK, only to send them out for regular duty and even the PP. To balance out the roster, why not give AG the 2C minutes... ya, ya, his FO% sucks, but he’ll learn during the rebuild, and let Horvat continue to be deployed exactly where he is needed, on the defensive side of the puck as he offsets the oft-injured Sutter and Beagle. I might be optimistic with AG, but I still think the offensive side of the top 6 is a toss up between those two centres right now, but there is a definitely a defensive standout among the two. Play to their strengths and to build effective, balanced lines. As an aside here, I still want to see both Lowry and Edmundson traded here.

When The Canucks were busy stapling him to their merchandise and building banners, I thought that to be folly, but a leading indicator of their stance on the player. For context, I thought he was trade bait for a very long time, not just when he finally was so predictably one dimensional and an IR-magnet. So now he’s being traded. A worthless asset. Not here to bash Jim, but I wish SB had been packaged up years ago. Sutter and Tanev are other players we know are diminishing assets. Loyalists and optimists will defend why these foundations need to be in place. I get it, but I disagree with the logistics. SB was a guy who once had 2nd round pick return value on a rebuilding team. JB continues to pick 5-7 OA regardless of how many competitive” non-moves he doesn’t make, so its worked out, despite a lack of picks built into the same fate. I am glad to see the back of SB, the player, as a Canuck. Sven the person, I have empathy and warm wishes for.

More bullies. Stone is the perfect player. Maybe the best winger since Iginla, unless Ovie counts, a living legend. I want to see QH get 3 points. Other than that, I just pray for no injuries! -

What about Boqvist? -
I know it’s not popular, but I want to see 88 paired with 6 or 9, instead of Horvat. I’d rather he learns the centre position now and how to win in the circle now, than down the road when the team is contending. Am I the only one who sees Horvat as a 3rd line C at that point, behind the more offensively creative Gaud? Probably.

Nothing wrong with having both those two on After Hours as far as media goes. Each of them has their own story. Patty is for sure a guy and a future legend I’d want to hear from before he’s gone. Bob is another guy who people might not know enough to admire or respect as Canuck fans. I hear about Canuck perspectives enough to make room for those two.

Yes, still a roster that can’t defend itself against the bullies of the league and since, like you say our two main hitters in MF and AR, and which I’ll add are usually injured, it’s a bigger problem just when they need that element the most. Many fans here are somewhat used to the Naslund/Sedin cheek-turning and have completely adopted and embraced the victim identity of the Canucks as demonstrated by the continued ref-blaming and hating on any physical opponent they watch, in place of criticism of their own team. To each fan, their own, I guess. However, the good news is that it’s gotten better in here this year, but the blaming and whining about being victimized still exists within these GDT threads, so much so that I think there’s no need to elaborate. The team being better equipped to handle the physicality makes these threads bearable this year, IMO. Less blaming the bully and the zebra for not sticking up for us, but it’s still constantly posted in here too. Its still a roster needing to find a way to initiate and finish checks, hard, like you say here. Its not about scrapping and being a goon, not at all. Its about making it so you don’t have to fight because you already have that respect, an element the Canucks management has avoided incorporating into their roster except for smallish 4th liners and IR magnets like Ferland, who if we’re being honest, Ferland isn’t a deterrent as much as he is a guy who can and will fight when he has to, but he’s not a Wilson or the type to scare and intimidate opponents with his style. We could use a few more like him or just one mean SOB too. I write all of this because of what I perceive, and with documented reason, as a stage for the Canucks to be pushed around again tonight by the Sharks. I am suggesting that it’s not enough to simply push back anymore and that Canucks have to be the push from now on and learn how to do that against these physically superior teams. Yes, it’s a personal preference, as are most posts of ours, I fully admit, but I’ve said mine. Absolutely, Captain Horvat must be the guy to lead that push and to take it to the Sharks from the drop of that puck! TG has to demand that as well. Like this...

Well put. The players are using empathy and weaponized words and slogans to push for support of their league, so they may earn a living after playing, as women, of course. Its like the women who are organizing this effort believe that they truly are victims of inequality. Since they aren’t afforded a league to make a lucrative living in, playing for a living, it’s a societal issue and we must all support equal opportunity, or some crap like that. They use words or phrases like ‘role model’ and ‘example’ to suggest that they need a league to inspire young women to live their lives. Rather patronizing, IMO.

Captain Horvat and the identity forging Canucks against the Sharks. Showing up isn’t enough. Answering the bell, isn’t enough. Its time to initiate and/or come out on top for a change; intimidate. Against the Sharks, this is a pipe dream, I get that, but they also need to start making space for themselves within the Pacific and NW by fighting for it. The approach the team brings against the Sharks will help me understand who TG is as a coach and who the Canucks think they are as players, a team and a brand of hockey. The team has no answer for Kane and a whole lot of others on the Sharks. Not every team does. Unfortunately for my tastes, this is still burning my ass as a Canucks fan.

Quite the picture. If it was an Asian guy who dressed up like that, would racial connotations still be there? Then could I laugh? Once you take away the perceived racism-intent, what do you have? Who wore it better? Snoop or that guy? Who was trying to be racist or race bating...? -
