  1. We've got at least a good week coming up here on the Island. I hope it's enough to start turning things around. I've got mushrooms growing in my lawn, which can't be a good sign.
  2. Lost a few really nice buds today to bud rot. I'm going to give my Violator another day or so to see if the improved weather builds buds faster than they die (today it lost three big buds on the main cola ), but I might have to pull the plug. One of my blackberry platinums is also losing a few buds, but it's too early to harvest that one - it's going to have to tough it out. Ortega is still plugging along doing well.
  3. I think next year I'll try to find some Early Maroc. It's supposed to be ready to harvest by the end of August.
  4. Thanks for the tips, especially the q-tip/peroxide. I've been removing the odd bud and a bit of the surrounding area just to be thorough and once or twice prematurely harvested a twig or two stragically. I'll certainly be looking at topping/FIM/LST next time around. For this go, I really wanted to just see the shapes the plants grew in on their own and wasn't concerned with maximising things too much. Next time around I'll try a few things differently. A lot of the information I've gleaned from you and stawns here will be incorporated. It's Saturday night now and it was a pretty good day. Mix of sun and clouds and only a sprinkle or two. The humidity wasn't too bad and the molds and related 5th kingdom saprophytes have been fairly low key. I'm pumped as we go into better weather over the next week and hope I've weathered the storm on the bad weather for a while.
  5. Nice job on your grow. Those are some nice dense looking colas and I'm digging the purple colours you are getting.
  6. Things here in the Comox Valley have been OK, but not stellar lately. Rain and humidity are providing a significant challenge to me as a pretty much rookie at this. I've been pretty successfully battling powdery mildew for some time now and had a small amount of bud rot pop up this week (just a couple of buds). To prevent the bud rot, I've started removing many fan leaves to provide more air flow and doubled up on fans running in the greenhouse. I've also cut back spraying for mildew (sodium bicarbonate + dish soap in water) to keep moisture levels down. My buds are coming along pretty good but are far from what you two are showing in your photos. My Violator is starting to bulk up a bit, however it still seems a long way from what you two have produced so far. It started early signs of flowering mid-August so I'm hoping for early October harvest for it. My Ortega is about a week or two behind that and my two Blackberry Platinum Kush are another week or so back from that. I think in the future, I'll want earlier flowering strains. Where do you source your Purple Papaya from? It looks great and seems to have a schedule that would be helpful in this climate. Any other strains that would be recommended for next year (and where to get them?) I did some online research and Early Maroc looks like it fits the bill. True North carries feminised seeds (currently out of stock). My Violator from Sunday or so:
  7. When you say it "turned to $&!#" do you mean bud rot (botrytis)?
  8. I was going to ask you what you were growing to get flowering so early, but you beat me to it (thanks!). My early flowering strain was Violator, which is about week 4+ now, so starting mid-August in the Comox Valley. I have a friend who has some Texada Time Warp in Nanaimo that is pretty much ready to harvest right now, which amazes me. Another friend has a Durban cross of some sort that is more than 9' tall, christmas treed and has about 1000 budlets growing on it's many branches. It's a little behind my Violator (which I don't think is known for early flowering) but he should be harvesting it in early October. My blackberry platinum kush is only week 2-3 of flowering right now, which has me concerned. What is it about Ancestral's Durban and Warp that you didn't like?
  9. I wanted to grow at least one high cbd strain this year, but it wasn't in the cards. Next year for sure.
  10. I've been spotting little outbreaks of powdery mildew lately. Growing blackberry platinum kush (2) Ortega and Violator. Violator flowered earliest but also didn't get near as big. It's about week 3-4 right now. The rest are week 1-2, which has me concerned that we might run out of growing season before they're ready here on Vancouver Island. My first shot at this in about 35 years.
  11. The Canucks played hockey like Muhammad Ali boxed. Rope-a-dope. Cover up and defend and then counter hard and effectively when your opponent leaves an opening. I'm not certain it's a consistently winning strategy for hockey, but it's worked for two nights in a row with a stellar goal tending performance. My only worry is that possibly it requires too much of a goalie. But maybe it's maintainable? Keeping the shots to the type your goalie is good with. You can bet Vegas will be trying to get the screens in place to try and get some goals next game, but if our boys keep boxing them out of his line of sight they might fall short again. The Canucks performance is the saving grace for 2020 for me (at least since we had to return to BC from camping in Mexico back in March).
  12. "People called" - it's a colloquialism. Ask any firearms instructor. Or read this article, it's got most things right as far as I can tell from a cursory glance: https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/what-difference-between-clip-and-magazine-anyway-78971#:~:text=Modern pistols and rifles almost, each individual round in separately.
  13. Incorrect. Magazine is the correct term for both. Some magazines can load detachable clips, independently of whether they are pistols or rifles.
  14. I doubt you an expert on this topic as you called a magazine a 'clip'. Somehow police all over Europe deal with these things and hardly ever shoot anyone.
  15. Despite still having some pretty bad numbers, coronavirus peaked in the US on July 24th and has been trending down ever since. It's quite possible there will be a vaccine by Christmas, although availability would likely be limited initially. I guess time will tell. I sure hope we have a season this year.
  16. Yeah, as much as it pains me to say, Loui is done like dinner. I'd be the first to hope that this thread became the new "Burrows, do we need him?" thread, but it's just not happening. The honourable thing for Loui to do at this time is collect his bonus and retire early next season. Actually, the really honourable thing would be to retire before the bonus. He's been paid extremely well for a massively underwhelming performance for his entire time with the team. Now, in his defence, he didn't complain as his role was reduced and was classy throughout, but I think he needs to realise it's time to move on. Maybe play in Sweden. He has far less impact on the ice than Tyler Motte, a fourth line defensive specialist.
  17. Markstromm pretty much stole one tonight. He made all of the stops he should have made and most of the ones he shouldn't have been able to. He just might be having a playoff performance to set the bar for all future Canucks goalies. Here's hoping he can post 10 more "w"s this season. Didn't hurt that the team managed to pop 4 goals on very few shots. Skill does count in this league. I knew this would be a better game than the last one. There were so many areas to improve over that effort and so many easy adjustments to make. This wasn't a great effort still in many ways and there are still a number of areas to improve in, which bodes well for game three. I expect Vegas to make adjustments as well, but now the Canucks have shown that they can win against Vegas and it's anyone's series.
  18. I was worried this might happen tonight. Las Vegas is a good team and they've had a week to prepare for this game. That said, there are a lot of things the Canucks can do to adjust to what Vegas is doing tonight and get things back on track.
  19. I'm giddy. I fully expected us to be out in the first round this year and predicted as much in the season prediction thread. I couldn't be happier right now. Win da 'turd!
  20. Canucks played better this game and managed to not be trapped in their own end as much, but they still need to be less passive when defending in their own end. The Blues don't have any guys that will beat you one on one with moves and speed like Petey and Hughes will. This was particularly evident after the Blues pulled their goalie. With a bit more aggressive defending, they'll get the blues to cough up the puck more often and clear the zone. This was a stellar game by Markstromm, although the O'Reilly goal was weak Marky stopped a lot more that probably should have gone in. I liked seeing Jake out with Petey and JT - he made the most of it.
