Petey always had the offensive instincts and his defensive play has never been that bad, but what's impressed me a lot especially in the last few games is that he's laying the body on guys and knocking them down. I'm starting to think that as he bulks up he's Forsberg material. I was really doubting this after his early injury, but somehow he's managing to put on a bit of muscle on that very lean frame during an NHL season. It's a testament to this kids ability and drive that we're just expecting that his great wheels and edge control will mean he'll be back in the d zone before any of the other forwards. He's got desire, talent and mad skills. This is going to be a fun decade.

MacEwan played a hard physical game, was solid in his own end and showed signs of offensive ability. A pretty solid outing considering the crap storm of a game. He's the kind of player I'd like to see a bit more of on this team.

Gaudreau isn't a terrible comparable in some ways. Both a point per game in their rookie seasons in H-East. It could be argued that Gaudreau had better line support in his first year. Style's not entirely a match. Also, Gaudette was only around 0.75ppg his rookie campaign, so for a 3rd rounder he's doing great. Gaudreau was a very surprising 4th rounder. Here's hoping Madden can be as good for a 3rd rounder.

Stecher has slowly but surely been making a statement this season. His hustle and determination are making up for his lack of size. His focus on the defensive end is paying off and I expect that soon the leash will be off allowing him more freedom in the attacking zone. He's quick and deceptive with the puck.
-
He has good skills with the puck and can beat guys one on one consistently. The problems with his game are that he holds the puck too long himself and has a tendency to get tunnel vision. He often struggles to identify his team mates when they are open. He has potential to be quite effective if he can start finding his line mates and stops trying to do everything on his own. As it is, he looks impressive but generally ineffective. There are a lot of guys getting ready to take his place if he can't make this adjustment.

I'm pretty sure that only some unaware fans of Pettersson and Pettersson himself are the ones who pronounce it "Peterson". He's anglicising it there.
-
Honestly when Boeser comes back I wonder if he isn't headed down to Utica.

Brainless. We can do this all night. Don't post stupid political comments in a hockey forum, it makes you a douchebag.

Alt-right angry mob mentality.

A good development comparable for Dahlin is Drew Doughty. 27 points and -17 in his first year. 57 points and +20 his second year. Dahlin is coming along fine. A good comparable for Pettersson is likely Backstrom. 69 points his rookie year, and over 100 in his third. Another would be Patrick Kane or Ovechkin. Both these guys are special players. When I use comparables here, I don't mean they will play the same style, just produce at those levels and develop at the same speed. I think they will both peak early and long and have great NHL careers.

Forsberg got his first NHL games in his draft +1 year and made the league full time in his +3 year. That said, there are some statistical similarities between the two players in their draft and draft +1 years. I'm pretty keen on Dalen. I think he'll need most of this season to adjust but we'll likely see him in the NHL this year or next at some point.

Utunen captained the U18 Finnish squad, which was when I became aware of him and should be a lock for playing U20 this year. I was pleased when the Canucks drafted him, and surprised he dropped to us.

Did you know that Hutton, Stecher and Gudbranson are currently playing top 4 on a team that's in 6th place right now? The D corps could use a star added, but they aren't too bad at all currently. I think the big problem is that there isn't a solid #1. Both Tanev or Edler could play #2 depending on who was #1. Edler, when healthy, can fill that role until someone shows up.
-
But tone down your comparison because Edler's averaged 0.442 ppg over his career while Hamonic averged 0.302. Edler's best season was 49 points, Hamonics was 33. Edler's still got a lot of value to the right team.

With 8 points in 17 games, Granlund is putting up very good 3rd line numbers. This is somewhat expected however, as he is on a team that currently has the 2nd highest scoring offence in the league (admittedly bolstered by that 8 goal performance tonight). He's still doing impressive work on the defensive side of the ice and stepping up with Sutter and Beagle out of the line up.

I just checked in to the thread to chip in my 2 bits about Guadette's play and you'd already said most of what I was going to say much more succinctly. He's been doing all of the little things right. Every shift he's working hard and making good plays. I feel he's a player on the verge of a breakout in the imminent future. All it's going to take is a bit of confidence and the apple in the last game should help with that. Next on the list is to get that first goal. Gaudette has shown himself to be a responsible two way center. He can both make plays and shoot. It's just a matter of time before his skills translate to goals and assists. He plays a much harder game than his size would indicate and pressures the opposition in to coughing up the puck pretty regularly.
-
He seems to be accomplishing this goal nicely so far. I'm not sure if he's been on the ice for any even strength goals against so far. His +/- is a bit pumped up by the EN goals he's on the ice for, but he gets those because he's a reliable player who can create turnovers and reduce chances against the Canucks. With the exception of one game, our PK has been pretty good so far - and the way the refs are calling things, we need it desperately.
-
Gaunce is actually quite a good AHL player. He just hasn't translated to that good an NHL player. The nail in the coffin for Gaunce was the signing of three bottom six FA's this summer.

2018-19 Utica Comets Thread

Looks like all that happened is Chlapik separated Woods from the puck and Woods lost his mind. Maybe something previously in the game? -
Accept this: The team had a nice game. They won't all be like that, but some will.

I think Motte is pushing hard for a spot.
-
He did have a solid outing. He still needs to shake the rust off of his passes, but the rest was looking good. Good compete level and a good job skating the puck up ice when the opportunity presented itself. Not a PP quarterback until he can make better passes with quicker decisions.
-
Going on four years now, yes.
-
MacEwan looked good. He seems to be developing well every year and making good progress. He might be ready for the NHL soon. He never stood out in any one way, but he did everything competently and didn't make much in the way of mistakes. At 22, he played well physically.
-
Admittedly I didn't have the opportunity to watch the 2nd game where Kulbakov started, but according to this he was good - is that not accurate? As I said, I didn't see it so... Kulbakov was good at some critical times, but he had some lapses to let the Jets into the game. Got his game together pretty well late to hold on for the win. If, on the other hand, you are talking about DiPietro, he was pretty solid in the first game. I think one of the two goals he'd like to have back, but a pretty good outing in a game that was well in hand all the way.
