  1. He's a big strong kid with some of the best wheels in the league. He's coming along nicely and this year should be another step in the right direction for him. By the time we are making the playoffs regularly, he will be in his prime.
  2. Wow. He's like a wolverine. No fear, just goes for it and takes down the bigger player.
  3. Dahlen sure can shoot. Dahlen, Pettersson and Boeser on the same team almost seems unfair to opposing goalies. Now all we need is a cannon from the point.
  4. The failings of the rankings aren't really anything to get worked up with. As 48mph Hutton Wink pointed out, it's great to have our prospects underrated. Many of us have a fair idea of where our prospects rank. The thing is, there's no point in getting upset with an article that sees things differently. Likely they looked at some stats on hockeydb or eliteprospects and went from there. Then again, this IS CDC, where lynch mobs form over performances in individual games, so I guess in the end, it's whatever floats yer boat. For me it's a pretty casual thing - there's the writer's list, and there are a few things I think he might be wrong about, but in the end, only time will tell. What I can say is that if even media hacks are starting to make lists with Canucks prospects overly represented in the top 50, it's a great time to be a Canucks fan. Especially so many Hobey Baker winners and finalists (and future winners!) and SHL scoring leaders and U20 record holders and character guys who lead their team to advance to the SHL and much more. It's a glorious time to be a Canucks fan, I've never seen any time like it in terms of prospects. Now here's hoping they are developed properly to make the transition to the NHL.
  5. I wonder how they missed Demko? He's probably more NHL ready than any other goalie on that list and meets their criteria of 25 and under with fewer than 25 games in the NHL.
  6. It will be interesting to see what Palmu brings to camp this year. I expect he'll spend the year in Utica, but you never know...
  7. 250k salary in Utica, 650k in Vancouver. The last two years were really solid for Archibald, his previous years he had trouble making the Utica roster regularly and played a lot of games in Kalamazoo. Like all players coming in to camp this year, where he ends up is mostly dependent on what he brings to camp this year. Last year he made some decent coin with half of his games played being in the NHL
  8. This is one of Eriksson's main pros - he can slot in anywhere on the team. 1st-4th lines, offensive role, shutdown, two way, PK, PP, he can fit in pretty much anywhere. With the bottom six being solidified by UFA pickups it might free him up to spend more time in the O-zone and put up some points. But, if someone else does that job better, he can slot down the line. I'm not going to speculate on whether or not he'd be moved - his contract makes it difficult, but not impossible.
  9. I wonder what the changes in goalie equipment will do for snipers like Boeser. He's got such an accurate hard quick off the stick shot that a little more room should make a fair bit of difference.
  10. Ding ding ding! How'd you remember an obscure guy like that? I could see it if it were just a head shot as those mutton chops are pretty distinctive. From back in the day when 19th overall means you're a second round pick.
  11. Danny Gloor with his two games as a Canuck and NHL player.
  12. Obscure enough that giving a picture with a jersey number is probably only fair.
  13. I know some of you are a bit hesitant about Gaudette because he didn't put up the numbers in his short stint with us at the end of the season, however, I think he's going to be just fine in the longer term. He may or may not break in to the league right off the start of the season, but at worst, I expect he'll go down to Utica and work hard, improve his game and be ready by next year (or possibly later in the season this year). He's come a long way since his draft year and he's close.
  14. Sami Salo played his first full season (and first NHL games) in his draft +3 year. Here's hoping Juolevi does the same. Note that Juolevi had a very good playoff campaign for Jokerit at the end of the season (2g, 5a, 7p in 11 games and +5).
  15. Fun fact: It took Lumme until draft +3 to see his first NHL game and draft +4 to be full time. Draft +6-8 were his best seasons. Patience. Things are unfolding before our eyes if we let them.
  16. Rodin had signed with Anaheim. Capfriendly lists his salary as 750k in either NHL or AHL, so one way contract. I think things might finally be going his way. He had a solid playoff run in Switzerland and led Davos in scoring. The Ducks may have found a diamond in the rough.
  17. Does Del Zotto get an assist as well for faking Gudbranson into that pass?
  18. I think the disappointing thing about Ellis is how long it took him to hit his prime. He put up 32 points in 44 games last year, which is on pace for crazy numbers for a defence man. I look at Ellis as a floor for Hughes as an NHL player.
  19. Pretty fair assessment, but it's an outside possibility that Hughes could have been great this year in the NHL. Not going to happen now that he's announced his plans to play another year in the NCAA, but I think he could have been an impact player this year.
  20. If Hughes really was "NHL ready" this year, it would be an incredible achievement. Compare this to a really good defenceman in the league who's about the same size - Ryan Ellis. Ellis put up really good numbers for Canada in the WJC at both the U18 and U20 level. He was a dominant offensive d-man in Junior. Still it took him three years post draft to even play half an NHL season and five years to become full time. With a January birthday, Ellis had an advantage in WJC qualification years so don't try to compare those to each other straight off. I guess what I'm trying to say is that patience is going to be a virtue here (and with pretty much every prospect). Ellis was a terrific young undersized defenceman and it took several years to break in to the NHL. If it only takes Hughes until next year it's a huge win.
  21. The six million dollar man needs to do more than produce at a 3 million dollar man level next season. He's been pretty solid defensively, but for the salary he's being paid he needs to step it up and put some points on the board. I suggest he start with a nice short haircut. His play was better back with short hair. The hippy hair seems to infect him with hippy work ethic. Lots of guys do well with the longer flow, but Loui isn't one of them.
  22. Quinn Hughes was by far the best player on the ice. His brother was decent, but had problems dealing with physical play along the boards. Tkachuk got a roughing minor.
  23. He'll have an adjustment period. But once that's over and he's adjusted to the pace and capabilities of NHL players it will be game on. One more season in college will likely make that adjustment a bit easier.
  24. Canucks finish somewhere between 14th and 24th. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say 20th with 86 points. Improved performance from last year. 5 on 5 the team is better due to a lack of Sedins and some better bottom six players on the roster. Only EP and OJ make the team out of camp. EP takes some time to adjust but is coming along nicely by the end of the season - 40 point season moving up and down between the top two lines. OJ shows better in the NHL than anticipated, but it's a development year more than anything. He turns out to be a solid contributor on the PP and works hard on improving both 5 on 5 and defensively. Demko gets a number of call ups but Nillsson steps his game up big time and takes over starter in goal. Some of the other young players work out well in Utica, some not so well. The ones who do well get called up fairly regularly. Sept. 28: Thinking more toward 24th now. EP 50-60 points, but not so sure any more that 5 on 5 will be ay better. OJ and Gaudette maybe a half season each. Hutton has a better season, Stecher too.
