Yeah, it was a very late predatory blind side hit. I'm glad that kind of thing's being taken out of the game.

The silver lining for me of having so many starters out and playoff chances dropping to zero is the chance to see how some of our prospects are developing. So far Rathbone looks great. Lind is playing and not looking bad, but needs to adjust a bit to the higher level of the NHL. It will be interesting to see how Gadjovich works out.

Duncan Keith Kneed in the face by Linseman...

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Ok, maybe two or three nicer guys to take that knee, but not many. -
Tom Wilson fined $5000... wait, what!?

Parros has taken a few too many hits to the head. Get someone in the position who wasn't a skill-less pugilist. -
I'm a pretty die hard type of fan, but even I recognise it's time to start looking at the draft possibilities. This season's done like dinner.

Predict The Score Contest: OTT @ VAN April 24 2021

Don't bother adding me to the list at this late date (I decided to bow out on the competition this year). Just guessing for fun: Vancouver 4-1 GWG: Miller -
Edler To Have Hearing Today [Update: Suspended 2 games]
RogersTowell replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
If this is dealt with the same all across the league it's a fair suspension. As it stands, he simultaneously got too harsh and too lenient a suspension since there's no consistency from DOPS (or should that be DPOS?) -
No, EP is not going to consider an offer sheet

Not a lot of difference in terms of points. Pettersson 0.93 ppg, Barzal 0.88. -
If they play like they have so far in March, they make it. If they play like February, they're vying with Ottawa. Anything in between, who knows?

Yeah, he wasn't bad, but he wasn't great. He was better than Price for 65 minutes. I can't help but think Demko would have stolen that one in regulation.

I've never played goalie in the NHL (and I bet nobody else here has either) so I struggle to understand how someone could have a higher risk of injury playing in back to back games than more spread apart. I've played in tournaments in various sports where you play 3+ games a day (Ultimate and Soccer) and noticed no significant increase in anything but very light muscle strains. Playing goal does require a fair bit of intense focus on the task, I suppose, and perhaps you have to watch for mental fatigue. If playing today is any higher risk than playing yesterday I suppose I could see the rationale for a night off, but given equal risk per game, I'd just go with the hot hand for now and rest him in one of the Jets games. I also don't buy the idea that tonight's game is 'make or break' for the season. It's just another important game like all of the rest of them this season. Holtby is far from done this season. We haven't really seen him play during our 'hot streak' since he hasn't played since March 2nd.

So I assume you are using the estimates from here: https://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/playoff_prob.fcgi Which appears to be a slightly modified "if things go the way they've gone so far this season" with a bit of weighting towards recent performance. It didn't predict the Blues cup run. I'm not saying for sure that the Canucks make the playoffs but I think the odds are somewhat better right now than that. If someone gives 8:1 odds against, it's probably worth taking that bet. Edit to add: the hockey-reference predictions don't disclose their methodology, so I'd take it with a grain of salt. My methodology? Never underestimate a team with a hot young goalie.
-
The problem with that is that the Canucks have gone on a tear and the numbers have now changed. We're no longer looking at a 5% chance. The Athletic probably didn't do the same number crunching for the St Louis Blues the last time they won the cup. They went from last place in the league to third in the Central and then won the cup. Their probability of winning the cup in mid-January was close to zero using this methodology.

So just out of curiosity, what is the chances of making the playoffs now? See how the world can change?

I'm in mental agony due to this being around the 3000th Benning thread this year. For the love of God just post in one of the other 2999 posts on the same topic. For the love of all that is holy can we please lock&delete all future threads of this nature? -
Should Demko stay healthy and properly signed
RogersTowell replied to Harold27k's topic in Canucks Talk
All Demko has to do is win us a cup (Stanley variety only!) and he'll be my choice for best goalie in the universe for all time in my books. So far for me King Richard is tops still, although I can only base that on a single season in which he carried the team to the finals almost single handed (though to be fair, the team around him massively over performed their general abilities as well). McLean is pretty solid based on his whole career in Vancouver as is Luongo. Seriously, Luongo was a lifetime 91.9% save percentage, topping any on that list (and just above the mark Brodeur set in the 82 playoff run with a 91.8%. McLean had a very strong 92.8% sv percentage in the 94 cup run. Of the three, Luongo has the best overall career by a long shot (luongo shot?), but McLean's cup run was very strong as was Brodeur's (especially considering the eras they played in). Luongo's cup run came up short posting a 91.4% - imagine where we'd be had he not let in any of those weak goals? Brodeur gets the nod from me for being the first goalie to take us to the cup finals, then McLean for bringing us to game 7 of the cup finals and Luongo next for being second to do the same. He sure provided us with some amazing regular seasons though. We'll have to see what the future holds for Demko. I hope he becomes my new favourite.
