  1. The only people failing harder than the team on the ice is the team in the management booth. Time to enact a strategy perhaps?!!!
  2. This is the problem right here.....the franchise isn't cursed in such ways (the refs in the 2011 series maybe). Playing better after being traded is likely natural because the player feels the need to step it up. No different than being told at your job that you're expendable and Christmas is coming. The Canucks 2011 team had some very competitive people (Kesler, Luongo, Sedins) and guys who would skate like a dog on a bone (Kesler, Burrows, Hansen). But they also had a very fun group (Burrows, Bieksa, etc). All put together, we keep hearing about how they pushed each other incredibly hard yet enjoyed coming to the rink. Guys fought for each other and guys would realize when the team was sleepy and do something to get the guys into the game. This is all leadership from within (and supported by AV) which is something that's been badly missing for the past decade. No dissing Bo but this is a very different team on our hands. Last season I thought Miller was bringing that culture back (competitiveness and accountability), but here we are. So this is why I want to see Canucks brass strip away any floaters. This franchise isn't cursed.....it just hasn't built a team that pushes itself, plays for each other, fights for each other and is fit enough to come at teams in waves. We need ultra-competitive players, not scorers that float around looking for the tap-ins.
  3. I really don't believe this. One look at Brock and you know he isn't at his peak physical shape. Not uncommon for guys to think they're at their top only to find out that improved fitness can help them find another level. Show me a Brock who plays like a dog on a bone and I'll show you a peak form Brock. Show me a Brock who's so emotionally invested into his team that one day he drops the gloves or hammers someone into the boards and I'll show you a peak form Brock.
  4. True but losing Brock for scraps is better than losing Bo for scraps. Taking Brock's salary off of the books helps this team out quite a bit and JR picked up a couple of players who replace Brock for free in the offseason. With that said, I'm not in the camp that is willing to give up assets to lose Brock's salary. I can't believe there wouldn't be a team that wants Brock......timing is likely more the issue.
  5. I agree but disagree.......time to move on from floaters. Kuzmenko was a fantastic pick-up and a step-up on Brock at this point. Mikheyev is a step-up on Hogz at this point too. So I think these moves were good but should come with some dumping salary to improve our D. Perhaps they couldn't upgrade the D as there are no teams trading guys we'd want.....in which case you're forced to make improvements elsewhere. This team won't win a cup without drafting a top tier D group anyway.
  6. I saw him skate faster tonight. Good to see him get the tying goal. Not saying we should keep him.....saying that there's more there and I was quite happy to hear he was going to be taken out of the lineup. At his age and with his potential, he shouldn't need anyone pushing him. All of these guys should be showing up strong and cut for training camp ready to go. He's the epitome of what's wrong with this team....thinking he can coast around, score some goals and collect some cash.
  7. Interestingly, he looks to be skating harder tonight.......so he just needs a fire under his butt apparently. Sigh...
  8. I thought he was going to be a healthy scratch tonight??? I missed the opening.
  9. This feels like the most obvious move that we've all been hoping in order to keep Bo and possibly improve the D or the draft day......so happy that there's actually some legitimate rumours to this. Yes Brock's value is low right now but it's still a necessary move at this point. Too bad.....Brock is likeable, but wished Brock would have been better but his cool as a cucumber demeanour is different than the high octane game I'd like to see. Given that he's a healthy scratch tonight, could there be something in the works???
  10. It's of course the 2nd round pick that most dislike. Dickenson can score 20+ goals this year but it wouldn't change the fact that he wasn't fantastic for us here. Some guys just don't work out in one city but go on to find a better fit elsewhere. We've benefitted from that before.
  11. Yeah, he would have been great for the tank. Agree with others.....sucks for Demko and hope he gets healthy soon but this is really best case scenario from a team decision perspective......should tip management over to write off this year, no?!!!
  12. There's no path to the cup without drafting a killer D group. You don't get that easily without drafting high......so yeah, sellers. If Demko's status looks grim over the next 6 weeks, I can see team tank being an acceptable option to the higher ups. The ship has sailed on this season....
  13. Agree. Would like to keep him, but if we could get a 2nd in this draft for him, we have to take it. Schenn is the voice of reason and the one showing the effort this year but in a bigger picture perspective, he's expendable. If we didn't get good return, I'd say extend him.
  14. I agree re: Hoglander. He hasn't earned anything yet. I can see him being traded tbh. I actually think Schenn will stick around but expect his voice to be in line with management's approach. At his stage of his career, he's probably thinking more about his future after playing and he seems to like Vancouver. Hopefully they sign him for longer. Character guy and leading this year......but really a third-line D on a good playoff team.
  15. Neither are leaving. Others will be. Moving Brock alone will create some space. I also see Miller going before both of these guys......and that contract won't be as easy.
  16. Obviously we need a happy surprise or two on the D end. But I wonder how hard it would be for them to build a shutdown third line when some cap space becomes available. It's been a looooong time since we've seen that identity for the different lines but the need for this seems more obvious now than ever.
