Win or lose this game, the SOG differential is scary considering Ottawa is a bottom-dwelling team also. I do like this about JR's assessment of the team - even though they were winning last season, they were winning because Demko bailed them out constantly. The underlying issues for this team remain.

Can't disagree with all of this, but I think they could tolerate having a huge salary on the back end while they ride out Myer's contract. They're stuck with OEL's contract regardless. They could also make a big trade for a young D prospect that's a bit more of a sure thing.....they'd have to overpay in terms of the trade, but I think it would be worth it since forwards are easier to replace. I was also thinking about the defensive-minded forwards that I think they could work on. All easy to say, tough to do as you say but things that must happen. If they're not going to rebuild, I think they have to accept getting fleeced to land what they really need in terms of defensive ability. The moves with Mikheyev, Kuz and the 4th line are so far very decent. I have faith. But we all still wait with baited breath for the big shoes to drop in making this JR's team (or PA's team if that's what one believes).

What if he were decimate some of our forward lines to land 2 solid defensemen and / or a high pick? Sure they're hard to come by, but there's always a price and going backwards for a few years to land solid young defensemen to build around has to be worth the feeling of getting fleeced a bit right now.

Well.....you're not wrong.......but it sure would be good to have a team that doesn't rely on the goalie to bail them out.

Amazing King has stayed here as long as he has.

Well BB runs with a happy, supportive style of leading normally, yet this year he doesn't look so happy.....which makes him a bit of a gun with an empty chamber. But then there's Yeo. Something feels different about the team culture this year and Yeo is the new person....have to wonder but admittedly I know nothing. I don't mind a rebuild, but I do mind a crappy coaching staff who are not fun to work with. You want Vancouver to be a place players want to go to and coaching staff have a big impact on that. Personally I liked AV and wonder how he would do.

Tough to really come up with an opinion of JR at this point. On one hand, this team needs a fire lit under them. And I hate to say it, but he's right about this team not playing like a team. Too many individual plays and a lack of structure for sure......so I love Bruce, but there's an element of truthfulness to this criticism. With that said, I wished JR spread the blame a bit more. Perhaps he's waiting until the first big shoe to drop with a major trade before calling out the players more.

Agree with you for the most part. But if the JB's group wasn't working, a big statement could have been made with Miller, Boeser, and a few others between the deadline and the summer. They've improved the forward lines (the fourth line, Kuz and Mikheyev were all good moves), but they have done little for the D so far which is what everyone hoped they would address. It's still early days and so the true test will be between now and the trade deadline....possibly between now and Christmas. With all of that said, the biggest move I've liked so far since JR arrived is the proper build of a management team. I think he has some work to do on the development front (defensively mainly), but the biggest failure of JB in my opinion was the desire to seemingly push forward alone and not use the strength of a full management team. So.....we're in a better position than the JB days, but we're not far enough away from the JB team yet and this fanbase does not want to wait another 5 years for someone to finally approve a rebuild.

Not to worry, there will be a full fire sale soon. I expect Miller to be gone with the rest.....possibly as early as the end of this road trip if they don't come back with 4 wins. OEL and Myers will possibly stay unless an unexpected offer comes our way. Possibly QH given his contract is long enough to keep around. Much of the rest of the team will be toast though I think.

[Speculation] Friedman says NYI scouting Canucks

This year's 1st round pick should be a good one.... -
When the fans target Demko, we've truly hit rock bottom. The guy was our MVP last year and beyond. If he's not superman we're blaming him instead of the situation in front of him. No he hasn't played as well this year, but I have no problem being patient with him given what he's done for this team. Let' him sit a bit more and find his game again, but more importantly, give him a bunch of guys who will do their best to keep him from being shelled and left out in the cold every night.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
NHL97OneTimer replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
2 thoughts: 1. I'm hoping that they play him to rack up points before trading him......so hopefully something back that helps the team or a higher draft pick. 2. To be honest, the cap space and not losing him for nothing with the next contract round may be worth it if that's all we get. Too bad, but I think we've all seen this rerun before of Brock not having a full season and not putting up the points that we'd hoped for. Unlucky and I'm sure he has a great future still but right now Bo is more valuable to us. -

Bo will be signed. Brock will be traded. Not a biggie to be honest. Hopefully Brock brings some return in youth.
