He doesn't need or want JP Barry to organize deals for the Canucks. That's his job. JB is probably tired of listening to LE and JP about their demands and so this is probably an exercise of saying, "sure, go out and see for yourselves what you can or can't do. If you find something that could work, call me". If there are any bites with JP's work, then I'm sure JB will take over and then put the chips on the table with other GMs.

Agree. I remember Luongo calling his deal stupid but he couldn't get out of it later in his career. I would think that the Canucks would be penalized more cap hit because they paid him more over preceding years. There's a $6M cap hit per year x 2 years but they only have to pay him $5M more, so they should have had greater cap hits over the past few years if the contract ended today. It may not matter.....will hockey be played in bubbles for 6 months? I can't see the players wanting to live like these playoffs this season.

Make a suggestion that isn't hypothetical and that's a reasonable trade offer and you'll be left with the same answer though.

No! Definitely not. I've been looking for a bit more out of Brock lately for sure but when he's shooting and skating hard, anyone would want him on their team. You have to think about team culture. JB wants a team to grow together and play for each other. As long as BB is playing to his level, no way a good GM trades him.

Looks like TG saw this and made an adjustment....nice work

Looks like he's back tonight......fingers crossed!

Brock is not having a good series.....looks like he's lost his confidence, a stride in his skating and his laser shot. I'm asking legitimately.....has his shot ever been the same since before his wrist (?) injury? Hoping that shot returns!

Didn't need to check the stat on this, but you're right. Tonight the Canucks looked like the dominant team at times, especially in the first half. The lack of calls to St. Louis was puzzling though and I thought that the Blues fed off of the fact that they could seem to get away with so many cross-checks away from the play, etc. So fantastic to see this young team suck it up and finish the job. They stood up for themselves but didn't try to out-muck a muckier team.

For the last 24 hours I've heard the media gushing over game 1 and hearing how good the Canucks were and how they had a dominating performance (though Patrick Johnston stands out as a realist). People are so excited after 1 win. Not to sound glass half empty, but this was not a blowout other than the scoresheet. The Canucks got hammered with hits and were outshot 31-22 despite having 3 more penalties to St. Louis. Lots of these St. Louis shots were high quality. The realist in me says that game 1 was awesome in terms of seeing this young team hanging in there and taking advantage of their opportunities against a very good team. They didn't back down and they played well as a team overall. However, St. Louis looked dominant at times and will be tough to beat in this series still. It will all come down to 2 things for the Canucks I think......goaltending and penalties (i.e. will the refs let St. Louis mug them or not). Our team has it in them to win but it's still an uphill battle if St. Louis gets better goaltending.

[Speculation] Canucks interested in Tyson Barrie
NHL97OneTimer replied to brian42's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Canucks will have no space in the cap and some huge core contracts are coming up. How can Barrie even be a discussion point right now?!! -
I don't think we need the leafs to teach JB any lessons. He has his own lessons to learn with his free agent signings. Really I'm not sure that JB blew it big time with the big contracts. I think he needed some vets to come in quickly and he didn't expect EP to come and advance the rebuild so quickly.

He earned his cup of coffee that game

WCQF: (4) St. Louis Blues vs. (5) Vancouver Canucks

As much as I'd love to see LE walk, we desperately need stability on the PK and his $6M provided that. -

Agree. Motte has been great at what he does but that doesn't mean he's anything like Burrows. They're very different players so far. Motte would have to be a legitimate scoring threat and a superpest amongst other things.
