  1. The Tan-Man is doing great with Hughes this year. What makes you think he won't be a Canuck in the future? The D is pretty solid as is with the current roster and Juolevi and Tryamkin in the background. The real question is who will not be on the D roster to bring these guys in the lineup without the obvious injury?
  2. Nope...not a fan of Pearson with Pettersson. You have two good players with Elias here, but the skill needs to be there too. Someone dangerous who can fill the net which forces the other team to not smother Pettersson so much. I think Miller is great on that top line but Pearson and Horvat are a good duo. I like the current lineup but hope Ferland can pick his game up to play with Horvat. If Gaudette and Virtanen can get it going, this team will be in decent shape this year.
  3. It was a fail when he was added to the Sedins for the Canucks but not prior to that (Worlds?). Sedins could make anyone look great except an older Eriksson. But hey, sure, give it a whirl with Horvat. It will be a kick in the teeth to all other players outplaying Loui which sends a bad message though. For example, if a younger, quicker Virtanen can't get ice time with Bo due to lack of effort, then why should Loui get time on that line? At least with someone like Virt you could suggest that we want to see some chemistry develop so there's a future there for many years. I'm good with neither player getting that chance right now because "TJ" is playing better and deserves it. Same with Pearson.
  4. I think most people would have made those pics though. The Edm - Van wasn't obvious but give the slight edge to the home team energized on the opening night perhaps.
  5. Not a whole lot of western teams near the top.....me thinks there's some bias there, but hey, at least we're higher than Edmonton, right? This isn't worth the pixels on my screen.
  6. When Loui was younger, he was solid. I'll give you that. He's not younger though. This isn't hate. This is reality. He's not playing like a 20-something year old. Horvat's been through enough with revolving teammates. Let him play with guys that earn it at this point. Eriksson hasn't earned anything yet and it's been 3 years.
  7. Can't agree enough. TJ has already earned first line time in my eyes. I like the protective effect of Ferland on the first line but the more I think about it, Ferland's likely more effective when he can be physical and playing with Petey would probably have him thinking more about the playmaking than him playing his own game. Brock - Petey - TJ Pearson - Horvat - Ferland Leivo - Gaudette - Virtanen Eriksson - Sutter - Beagle Swap Eriksson with Roussel when he returns.
  8. How did you go from talking about "very good" scoring lines to putting Eriksson on the second line? I see the big IF, but if you have to capitalize IF, you're probably already halfway there to realizing it won't work. I think the Canucks already have 2-3 very good lines.....but in order to be elite, they'll need one elite line and two other very good scoring lines, plus a stellar D and solid goaltending. They're handcuffed until Eriksson, Sutter and Luongo are off of the pay books but then I see them being able to add some extra scoring (which will time well with Podkolzin).
  9. That's a very subjective answer....yes to Gretzky but no to Mario. Where then is the line drawn? That's the issue. There's pros and cons to everything and I agree that it would be nice for a player to pay tribute by wearing #19 or whatever.....but it's probably best left the way it is. There will never be another Trevor Linden or Markus Naslund.....that's the most respectful message you can make.
  10. Well he didn't get picked up as I suspected. Does he have to clear waivers again when being recalled? Wondering if this is what you mean by him having more value once he clears waivers. Man it would be nice to have him available to bring up if needed but a trade would be good too. Would hate to lose Sven for nothing.
  11. Unless they wanted him for free. I suspect he'll be picked up and JB will be okay with that. 2 years with his cap hit isn't bad for a lowly team trying to add some scoring for free.
  12. Don't give him too much credit.....I'm not sure he'd remember Benning's name.
  13. With Baertschi and Goldobin as two other options if plan A fails. That's not bad.....
  14. Does this make sense when he's already been paid more than the overall combined cap hit effect? How is it different than Luongo's situation?
  15. I assume his retirement would not help us out though (another Luongo situation?).
  16. Don't forget the conflict of interest that goes on in TO with the media owning the club. Nothing bad will be said no matter how idiotic things will look.
  17. Too bad the public statements coming out of LA made it sound like he was signed because he was a heartbeat with NHL experience. Not a lot of respect thrown out towards him. Really states the fall of LA well. From Todd McLellan: "the fact that he’d be comfortable jumping on that ice tonight in an NHL building in an NHL uniform is real important right now for our back end.”
  18. This is such an out of touch comment. A Laine comment really. I don't recall him being a beast with the Sedins but that's who the Canucks thought he would play "real good" with. Yes he'd get more points with top players but other players deserve that spot more than him. Why should he get gifted it?!!! He should be outworking players and elevating the play of anyone who he plays with at that salary.
  19. Like clicking on a link just after there's a screen load movement.......love it. But if no GM actually clicks by accident, the constant movement back and forth will surely frustrate the hell out of LE enough for him to either play better or take a trade to any team possible.
  20. Juolevi has yet to make his mark but he's a defenseman who was always going to take a few years. Injuries haven't helped but I think it's too early to write him off from being one of the better draft choices. Tkachuk would have been good though.
  21. If you look at where they were a year ago and compare with now, it would seem JB would agree with you. He's working on it..... If the Canucks make the playoffs this year and show good promise with rapid improvement, JB may have more options to add more toughness if UFAs want to jump onto the train. Or perhaps they just wait for the tree trunk to come back. Either way, this team make-up is starting to come together with a good blend of speed, skill and toughness.
  22. Speaking of team first (see my above post), with Brock's deal in place and Laine's comments recently (about how he'd rather have better line mates so he'd make more money), anyone even slightly regret considering a Laine - Brock trade?!!!
  23. People need to calm down about the future! Boeser signed a team-friendly contract to get us out of the Eriksson and Loui NHL penalty years. This was a team-first move. What makes you think Boeser won't be reasonable in 3 years? What makes you think the Canucks wouldn't want to use some of that dead money coming off the books to reward the player that scores, connects with fans and put the team first? It's all good. Boeser and Benning just turned this 2019-20 year into something hopeful. Don't worry, be happy!
