  1. Talbot was bad. Jake put himself in a good position on those goals but a good NHL goalie is having none of that. But it's all good if it gets Jake rolling.
  2. Bert had a grumpy nasty edge to him. A swagger that said I'll do what I want out here regardless of what you tiny and petty people think. That translated to a lot of goals. Jake needs a little bit of that.
  3. ......in the first preseason game. Had to end that sentence for you . I've been rooting for Jake since he was drafted and still do. But let's see this in the regular season and better yet playoffs before describing his Gretzky-like prowess!
  4. I wouldn't be happy with that. He's young and capable of much greater things. He could be a 30-35 goal scorer if he drives the net harder, shoots more and gets his arse in the goalies face before knocking in those rebounds. My hope is that the lightbulb moment happens and his production jumps fast. Will likely take the right linemates and coaching that lets him have fun with it.
  5. I realize that you are displaying Marchand crying and that's beautiful.......but it may be better to not even think of him at all. What would it take for you to take him down?!!
  6. Can't see the Royals sharing with an AHL team. I was REALLY disappointed they didn't move the AHL team to Victoria when the arena was built (or to somewhere in the lower mainland). Would have made sense I thought.
  7. There's no justification. Tough to be a championship team with more than half of the salary spent on 4 guys. Not impossible (Chicago), but difficult. Edmonton and TO have similar models. Fail for years, collect big names, overpay, then likely fail to come up with low cost complementary players to take them to the promised land. At least TO has Babcock. I'm intrigued by JB's plan. There's some potential stars in the making and a roster that's starting to look like a lot of solid NHLers from the mid-tier pay (less lower tier players). You can't do this when you have a few $10 million players.
  8. Agree. Gaudette will be first up though when Sutter gets injured.
  9. Going on a limb here and thinking that we'll see both of these (and obviously many others): Ferland Petey Boeser Ferland Petey Boeser Pearson Horvat Miller Goldi / Baer Horvat Miller Baert Sutter Virt Pearson Sutter Virt LE Beagle Leivo LE Beagle Leivo I think they'll start with Pearson on the second line with Bo but they'll be intrigued with a trial of Goldi on the second line. Goldi has to score there or he's out in a hurry. Baert otherwise moves in if Pearson isnt' keeping up the chemistry.
  10. I think there's a little method to the madness of drafting a player like Jake early in the rebuild. These guys often take years to figure it out and this way he hopefully puts it together at a time when the rest of the team starts rounding out. At least that's what I've been hoping for and would like to believe!
  11. Holding out on Brock trying to force a signing well under his market value would lay the path to losing him later and would infuriate the fans. Was never going to happen. The owner and management want players that the fans bond with......winning is one thing, but having an identity that fans like and support win or lose is another. Brock has that connection here.
  12. Over $20 million comes off the books when EP signs. Of course a lot will go back on including Hughes but at least JB will have options. The two Loui anchors will drop as well as Roussel and Beagle when Brock signs next. So options are there and JB will finally then be in control of his cap if he doesn't botch it up in the meantime. Also, the fact that Brock signed this deal with a cap under $6 to help the team now gives me confidence that he won't go for the $11-12 million deal in 3. So far Bo, Brock and Ferland have all signed fair contracts which don't put the team under a bus. The future could be a great one!
  13. I agree with this. Benning knows time with Dad is important. Boeser states that he loves Vancouver and wants to stay here a very long time. Trade talk seems really premature. If Benning and Boeser take the long-term approach here, I can see them waiting even after the regular season starts to raise enough cap space to pay Brock more per year. It helps Brock and it helps the team quite honestly......especially if you think you have the pieces in place to not fall too far behind in the first few weeks without him.
  14. Fair enough. And Pettersson isn't a lock for the top 6 until he shows in camp he still keeps it. BUT, coach TG doesn't have a short memory. He says he looks for guys who work well together and Pearson was as good as we could have expected with Bo. Time will tell.....and perhaps Pearson gets outplayed in preseason. But if not, I expect to see him playing with Bo for a decent amount.
  15. While he's versatile and can easily do well on the third line, Pearson played very well with Bo at the tail end of the season. I expect him to have that spot back unless he loses it.
  16. I hope you're right. Depends who sits in the press box I guess also.
  17. LE will probably sit on the fourth line for PK duty. It will be a great embarrassment to him and to the club, but unless that 1M is the difference between having Boeser and not having Boeser, I think they will try to save face by keeping him on the team. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LE is good on the PK and you don't want Horvat and Co on the PK if you can help it.
  18. Interesting line-up. Not sure Miller will like signing the contract to be on the third line and I'm not a fan of that third line. Tough also to separate Boeser and Pettersson (but not unthinkable). I think the starting line-up will be more likely: Ferland-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Miller Baertschi-Sutter-Virtanen The rest in and out of the fourth line with Virtanen, Goldy, Baertschi and Leivo all having some time on the top 6 at some point with injuries, line swapping, etc. LE will be parked on the fourth line IMO. Goldy is the question mark but he won't be gifted a top 9 position unless they are able to form 3 offensive lines (which is possible now).
  19. The nicest part of this story is that the Canucks finally have depth. I'd love to see LE's contract off of the roster, but it's nice to think that the Canucks are good enough now to park him in the minors or on the bench.
  20. I really don't see Pettersson and Boeser being split up and I don't like Goldy on that line (but I do like the thought of Ferland on that top line). My guess is that Goldy's on Horvat's line, third line or in the press box.
  21. Agree his agent should be dropped. It's nice though to think that he's still a valuable NHL player on a team but he wouldn't be an upgrade for the Canucks roster. It's been a while since we've had thoughts of this kind...
  22. While this summer has been good and I'm looking forward to hockey, it's September dammit and all I asked for was to see this thread end with the best possible outcome. Dammit!
  23. Bieksa should be in the ROH.....if not for his play on the ice, his career with the organization or for his community work....he should be in for his KO of Fedor Fedorov before Burkie drove him to the airport.
