  1. His agent apparently mentioned that he has no plans of considering retirement (at least I'm inferring): "Loui will not break any contract, he is a Vancouver player and does not have the slightest idea of putting down his career" . source: https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/patrick-johnston-whither-loui-eriksson
  2. Vancouver's clean air.....ha ha ha!!! Hey, I love Vancouver and it's one of the most beautiful cities in the world but when you take the ferry over from the island, you see that brown haze sitting on top of Vancouver. I've lived in Vancouver for a number of years.....love living on the island. Different strokes I guess.
  3. ....or JB could be even more creative in getting rid of the cap problem altogether......which I suspect he will find a way to do. Replacing one problem with another is not the answer.
  4. Taking on Lucic extends the problem by another year.....plus LE has more utility than Lucic now. LE can at least skate.
  5. I think the bigger win would be to get rid of the cap hit altogether. Lucic doesn't add much for what we need now.
  6. We have a cap hit problem. Trading LE for Lucic doesn't change that......it just adds another year to that problem knowing that there are big pay raises scheduled for our elite players. If JB trades for a slow, older Lucic, it would be a terrible, terrible move. Looking at this summer's moves, there's no indication to suggest Lucic is coming here. Lucic may want to come here but we should all collectively reply "that's nice".
  7. It won't affect Boeser's contract at all. Boeser has more connection with to the Vancouver brand (i.e. one of the faces to the franchise) and forward leadership. His importance to Vancouver is greater than Dzingel's is to Carolina right now. That will be recognized in the contract.
  8. Sure but when is the onus on the players and not the GM?!! The first three were not unreasonable if they lived up to their hype at the time. Eriksson was pricey and long but this was a contract that a transitional team has to live with and could afford. If he played to his previous level we wouldn't have minded it so much. Juolevi was the need at the time and in the future still.....tougher to get D than a winger. The other moves are marginal issues. So, rightful to have issues with the above but hindsight is 20/20 and no GM hits it out of the park with every move.
  9. I get the feeling that this is leading towards more trades. Jim has drafted a power forward and added Miller. Also added Pearson before that. Petey, Boeser, Horvat, Virtanen plus a host of other guys and reasonable prospects. I'd imagine there will be some movement for a defenseman.
  10. I know what you meant but had to laugh at this.......intimidate or be intimate with the opposition?
  11. It was simply to say that we took on Eriksson's salary expecting more based on his history. If this didn't cost a first rounder, I wouldn't be hesitant about this trade. I still may be very happy with it. I just would have liked to keep the first round picks when while we have a good drafting GM (unlike 2007 until JB). I know I'm not alone in thinking the loss of the first rounder is an eyebrow raiser. But JB got his man and the ship has sailed. Hopefully it works out.
  12. Let's not look at Eriksson's numbers before and after......some players don't do as well on different teams. With that said, I'm not being a debbie downer.....I think this will work out well but given there's a first rounder in play, I'm just hopeful that he comes as advertised.
  13. I agree with everything you said......as long as Miller is good for us as I stated. Otherwise we lose a first rounder and have a significant salary on our hands. This should be decent. At the very least we have some more size up front.
  14. Yeah, Miller will have to light it up and be a fan favourite for me to like this one. Helping out another team AND giving up a first is tough.
  15. No Vancouver Canuck fan with any sense of historical knowledge would be happy with 4 solid defensemen. History tells us we need 10 legitimate NHLers with 6-7 that are considered very solid. Injuries are a right of passage here when it counts.
  16. You realize the Burrows thread is legendary though, right?!!
  17. Colorado got a couple of great spots to pick from in the first round......that was better than JB. That's about it.
  18. Like I said....we need another 3 Dmen. I'm thinking cup, not competitive.
  19. And if Virtanen reaches his potential, the club is in really good shape. Still need 3 very good defensemen though before the gaps have been filled in nicely
  20. Maybe.....but at the least you have a couple of bigger guys with size and speed. I still think Virt will get better.
  21. It's the same old thing each year.....drum up excitement to get viewers despite a low likelihood of it materializing.
  22. Fair enough......I wasn't looking at it as black and white. I realize there are more details that come into play. I just didn't like the suggestion that Gardiner was better than all of our D given the 30 pts and +19. Like someone added above, the back and forth is pointless because the outcome is the same......Gardiner's not a big enough upgrade to warrant big cash. Cheers.
