@King Heffy Gardiner last season had 30 points and was +19 do you know how many 30 point +19 dmen the Canucks had? Zero. This was your initial comment. He was not a +19 player before those guys arrived. His production went up when they arrived and his miserable +/- did also. He's not a significant upgrade to our better D-men. He's a reasonable defenseman, but not someone who will instantly make the team better and worth a large contract.

( RUMOR) Canucks Trying to move up
NHL97OneTimer replied to Squamfan's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The proof is always during the draft though. I don't expect any big splashes tonight......two reasons: respect for the NBA draft and to make the NHL draft day a bigger event. The trades (if they transpire) will be mainly announced tomorrow. -
His stats went up considerably in the last three years since Matthews arrived and the scoring ability of the team went up. Look at his +/- stats as well......a big turnaround when Matthews joined them. So I fail to see how my points are false. This isn't black and white, there are more considerations......I'm just pointing out that he wouldn't necessarily be better than all of our D.

[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
NHL97OneTimer replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Agree this makes no sense for the Oilers. -
Edler, Sedins and Burrows all had families and I suspect good stable partners. Not a definitive factor, but likely a significant one. The bigger factor is probably this: when you sign good people and surround them with other good people and staff, you create a work family environment that creates a sense of loyalty and desire to be together.....especially when everyone's working hard together. This is why the interviews are so important in the draft and not taking a player based on playing ability alone. The collective ability is not the sum of the parts.

Agree.....but I still wished he would have taken a trade at the deadline for a short-term season elsewhere with a new Canucks contract ready for the 2019-2020 season. For the sake of a few months, he would have given Jim and the team a better chance of accelerating the rebuild. Everyone would have known it was a short-term rental but there still would have been some decent offers.

( RUMOR) Canucks Trying to move up

You may want to hear this, the Canucks trade Ballard, Mason Raymond and a 2021 7th rounder to Detroit for the #5 pick........ -
Report [ Luongo Decision expected]
NHL97OneTimer replied to Squamfan's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Drives me nuts how Bob McKenzie took delight in linking this announcement with the NHL draft here. I like Bob normally, but that was disappointing. -
[Report] Canucks looking at adding Hoffman
NHL97OneTimer replied to Generational.EP40's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Agree.....the fact that he was with her and had her back speaks a little bit. With or without her, he may not be the character we want in the room. Keep the Canucks classy.... -
[Rumour] Jesse Puljujarvi requests trade
NHL97OneTimer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Puljujarvi would be an interesting addition but I don't see the Oilers taking the chance of sending him our way......especially with taking an $18M salary headache back. Nor do we want Lucic's $24M nightmare. We need cash on hand for the young guys. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Thatcher Demko
NHL97OneTimer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Can never have enough good goalies in the system. Markstrom won't be riding his career high in 5 years time when DiPietro will be ready. So if anything, it's trade Markstrom in 2-3 years. -
(Speculation) 3 way trade to land PK Suban
NHL97OneTimer replied to Gator's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
3-way trade involving Calgary PK Subban I think this is all one needs to read to know this is not worth talking about. -
The Canucks and Jake have mishandled his growth no doubt......and maturity has been an issue. However, he's just starting to enter (and maybe even a year or two shy of) the years where a young power forward starts to peak. If the Canucks trade him, I wouldn't be surprised if he went on a tear in the next few years. They should keep him. They should give him consistent top 2 line time and PP time for a year with the message that this is his time to mature into a professional and start earning the big bucks. He has the tools....just needs the smarts and the confidence. We'd be a much better team with him reaching his potential.

I don't think Tkachuk was ever in Linden's plan for the team anyway. To give credit where it's due though, when JB took him, many were surprised.....and many in Vancouver were hugely disappointed that he didn't pick any of the other top 10-12 players in the draft. Pettersson's size scared off other teams. While I think Juolevi will still pan out, I'm a bit disappointed JB didn't select Sergachev. He would have been buried in Juniors. Hindsight is 20/20, but this would have been a better choice now that we also have Hughes.

Apparently he's playing like he deserves it.

I'll admit that I love to see a good hit and the odd scrap on the ice but I'd MUCH rather see speed and skill on the ice. It seems as though the league can't have the best of both. If the league won't protect the stars, the teams have to. I remember the feeling well when Naslund was hit. The league wouldn't deal with it, so guess what.....we all wanted to see Moore get it. Not that way, but what a slippery slope things get in a league that won't do the proper thing. Time for them to take out fighting and dirty plays like this with harsh suspensions. The league will do just fine despite what some think.

I've really wanted Gaunce to do well and become that player but you must be seeing something I just don't. Gaunce is nowhere close to a decent top 6 player. There's no future for him there with the current landscape anyway. In fact, Gaudette just walks in and already looks like the player I'd hoped Gaunce would be.

Where he ends up has nothing to do with what he brings to camp this year.......it has everything to do with how healthy the other guys are this year.

Would certainly protect Pettersson.
