  1. Yeah I just meant that we won't be seeing them all as NHL regulars AND on the Canucks roster. Trades will be made and some will not make it as hoped. I look at a player like Cole Cassels. I think many people (me included) thought he'd have a shot at the NHL level in some form based on his defensive play alone. It's not looking so good right now.
  2. Nope. Not boarding if he angled him off into the boards. Man he wasn't moving that fast. He'll be great but I don't think he'll be losing NHL calibre players that easily.....at least not yet.
  3. Someone really likes all of the Canucks' prospects! Horvat would be the old man of the team!
  4. In that second clip, he would have been stapled to the boards instead of having the D roll off of him. It's an interesting decision (NHL vs college). I personally was hoping he'd get some AHL time this year. Would like to see him more physically mature before he hits the NHL though.
  5. It's an honest statement though from a GM perspective. I would have liked to hear Burke talk about the good stuff of Hughes but his comments were not inaccurate (small, risk with college). Benning has a history of not panicking and playing it right with the US college players which no doubt is helpful.
  6. My guess is that Hughes has not yet been in an environment with so much hitting as the AHL and NHL. I would think it's college or AHL this year (I understand he's eligible for AHL).
  7. Was hoping Tanev would have been packaged for a pick to select Dobson. That would have really rounded out our D nicely. Juolevi, Hughes, Tryamkin is not a bad trio to work with though. A lot really does hinge on Tryamkin coming back though.
  8. Mixed feelings: - happy with Hughes - happy we didn't pick Wahlstrom (had a bad feeling about his attitude) - hoping that not picking Dobson won't come back to haunt us (not just for size, but also for being a right hand shot)
  9. Just throwing this out there......I hope the media isn't all over this in the same way (i.e. hoping this Hughes is the gateway to the other Hughes). Let's let Quinn enjoy this day without hearing about his brother!!!
  10. So IF the Canucks had better goaltending, and IF the Canucks scored more goals in the key games, and IF the Canucks won more shootouts, they'd be in the playoffs...... IF my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle as they say.....heh heh.
  11. Interesting thought about McEneny........injured and didn't play much last year so tough to say.
  12. I'm prepared. I am a ref in Finland and I have dinner with Salo's family on Sunday nights
  13. I'll admit it. I haven't seen him play in Finland. Since you have such a strong opinion here, please enlighten me what you've seen with cherry-picked highlights on YouTube or while eating popcorn on the side?!!! Kidding aside, I don't disagree with you about Botch and would love to see that knee find him. But I think the fact that Juolevi is still young and played most of his time on the third pairing without being dominant in a league which is a large step away from the NHL.......so, it would be reasonable to assume that there's a good chance he will not be ready to make the Canucks this year. It's better for him to be getting first line minutes in a lower league than a handful of minutes in a handful of games in the NHL. On this basis, I think it's likely that Hutton still has this year to prove he's an NHLer before he's squeezed out by Juolevi.
  14. Are you describing a young on-ice Kesler or Gaudette? Could be either which is exciting to consider.
  15. See answer above. Feeling a little knee-jerk reaction Rob?!!! A bit overstated. Why don't you also tell me then that whoever is drafted this year will have the same chance of making the team as Bo because it's up to the process and coaches?!!! The link was provided simply as a source which has been consistently tracking the young guys throughout the year.
  16. Sure.......except it's been a consistent story that Juolevi isn't ready yet. Only in the past few weeks has he been playing first line minutes on the D end. I think you've supported the point that he's still young and will be ready when he's ready. My point is that it's a leap to think he'll push Hutton out of a spot this year.
  17. Ben Hutton likely has the AHL at the bottom and the second line of this team at his peak (but not the second line of other teams). The reality is that he's probably the 7th D as it stands now. BUT, I do think it's too early to write him off as an AHLer. Tough to fix the bad play and skating but certainly within reach to correct his attitude and fitness level. I'm being a realist that the status quo isn't good enough but I'm also not writing him off......I think this market turns against players too quickly when they have a bad couple of years which I think is tough when a player is still below the prime age.
  18. Juolevi won't be ready this year......at least that's what The Province is hinting at: http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/hutton-on-hot-seat-as-canucks-defence-must-get-better
  19. Down the line is the key point here......not this season for these names (except maybe Sautner?).
  20. Look at Jake a few months ago and look at him now. Is a 25 year old defenseman over the hill?!!! Do the Canucks really have a handful of better defensemen coming up? C'mon man. You're stretching here. If Ben works hard over the summer with his fitness, there's a solid chance he'll be a better player and have a good chance at a job. I would alter my stance if the Canucks were a contending team or if they pick up some great defensemen over the off-season but the bar is pretty low at the moment. There's still hope for Ben but he has to pick up the shovel.
  21. He still has upside. His situation is nearly a carbon copy of Virtanen and look how Virtanen has turned things around. Does management risk losing Hutton for nothing because he hasn't woken up yet? He's not tradable right now. The best case scenario is keeping him and he pulls through.
