Hmmmmmm, Bettman does like his big US cities though. Me thinks it will be Chicago.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
NHL97OneTimer replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yes, we would be furious for sure. If they trade Bo soon, I think they'd have an easier time trading away Miller too since they'd have the cap space to take on shorter-term cap dumps. If you pull JTM and BH off of this club, and possibly BB, you now have a lot of capacity over the next 2-3 years to start rebuilding around the one good line left (if Kuz stays). -
(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller

The OEL trade was the biggest smear on JB's record......and yet I recall the excitement of Garland and people weren't concerned about that contract. Hindsight is 20-20. He missed on a couple of top picks (JV and OJ), but he did very well with EP and QH. JR and PA will be definitely be graded based on JTM's contract. It only takes one terrible move to sink a team for a long time. I like JTM, but that contract sucks. They've made some decent moves, but to say they've done a solid job is a bit odd at this point when they're having such a horrible season. The only thing I'll say to spare them a bit is that they've had challenges with the cap space league-wide......but then adding JTM's salary to that was just ridiculous. -

The most exciting thing that can happen in this season is a long list of trades for picks and prospects. I've largely stopped watching the tv now.....just the daily internet check because surely this "itchy trigger finger" JR will do something in his tenure here. It's starting to feel like false advertising though.... -

I missed the game......did boeser do anything in particular or is the point of your comment that he didn't do anything in particular? -
I don't know that situation but this tire fire season is sure to set off some different opinions and when a controlling person at the top is screwing up badly, there's often desire to control the chaos by trying to manage the reactions and communications rather than deal with the central issues. Poor management of a business or a country actually and it won't work. QH's reaction has the feel of a canary in a coal mine. Note that he tried to reduce the inflammation of his remarks but he also didn't clarify his statement to change the course of the interpretations much. Where there's smoke there's fire?!!! Okay, maybe I am cooking up something here I shouldn't....

Edit- Rick Tocchet Expected To Be Next Head Coach

Actually, that's a good idea.....a little tired of him being the shadow guy in the background. -

Pointless this season and a slap to a decent person (BB). And what coach out there would want to pick up this mess without some idea of what the team will look like next year?......and will it include a bunch of players that were told we're trying to trade but just couldn't (i.e. a toxic environment not that it isn't already). -
Okay everyone come together so we can discuss our communication strategy..... Someone suggested he won't be available for next season either......any truth to that? If so, I would say there's more to this than medical details. Not trying to cook up too much here, but this has happened before with the Canucks.....Malhotra wanted to return and was cleared to return but GMMG refused to let him play. In that case, it's easy to back MG up and at least it was public and perhaps they were footing the bill instead of insurance. Point is, managers have stepped in before.

Will need compromise on both sides... but Bo Horvat should stay
NHL97OneTimer replied to *Buzzsaw*'s topic in Canucks Talk
Bo's likeable, and a great player. But no, he's gotta go. He deserves a shot somewhere and this team is not going to be pulled together within his window. Also, I don't mean this as a slight to him, but he could probably benefit from not being a captain of a sinking ship. -
Canucks Management "NO-SHOW's" at STH/Memebers only meeting.
NHL97OneTimer replied to RU SERIOUS's topic in Canucks Talk
Yeah I get that re: roster. My point was that I wouldn't have minded him on the team for a shorter, more palatable contract but I wasn't happy with what was signed. Yet another "good player, bad contract" situation. -

I was one of those people who saw Miller as an emotional leader for the club which this club desperately needs. I was fine with him not scoring 99 if he could keep providing his overall impact other than points and still contribute 70+ points per season. However, I wanted nothing to do with the term. I was hoping they'd kick every can to have a 4-5 year contract and then explore trade options if now. But here we are with a looooong contract and Miller having a significantly smaller positive impact on this team this year. I don't think this year was predictable......I think this was predictable for 4+ seasons from now. Crappy situation. -
So......has Tanner been asked to stay injured for the rest of the season so that they have confirmed cap space to maneuver or he wasn't handled well medically? When I read the headline I had to ask myself if / how a GM could get a player to stay injured without risking everything (insurance fraud?). So perhaps this didn't occur. But now I read this quote and have to ask what it means. Tanner staying injured is probably better for him financially vs getting bought out but it's a tough career move. Hopefully this is all irrelevant.

It still pains me to reply to anything of your's with that mugshot in my face but you are absolutely correct. That's kind of what Bieksa was getting at too I think when talking to the team (I thought there was a little dig at management as well).....lines need an identity and players need to know their role. The 3rd and 4th lines shut down the other teams and pushed a pace that wore down the other teams. I'm a little lost on what OEL's identity is these days though. He's not really offensive and he's not really reliable.

Will this thread beat the length of the last Miller thread?!!! Yes please to trading Miller, then Brock.......and Bo. Let's take this team to the demolition team. -

Good for them, but bad for us.....the Canucks have a long history of losing a player to injury in the month before the trade deadline......risking a total loss at the end of the season. -

Missed the game.......I get more excited these days doing a search for the Canucks news to see if anything of actual significance these days (i.e. a change in personnel) will happen. I love seeing the Canucks win, but at this stage of the season it's actually worse to win.....like it or not. People can rightfully trash on JB's moves (the OEL trade being the biggest), but we now have a bigger management team (good decision) with arguably worse results (poor execution). If they don't make huge wholesale changes (i.e. move Miller, move Brock, move Bo) in the next 2 weeks, they are just going to keep this team back for longer. Losing patience and likely my interest...... -
Ahhhhh.....should have considered that . I thought you were referring to the "new NHL" which is what we typically have on display at home. Okay, the world is still turning.....you know, one of the reasons I don't fear a total strip down is because you often end up with a team of guys with lunch buckets and spades. If they can't outskill, they have to bring the muscle. That's entertaining hockey and everyone loves an underdog. It also brings in the next era with a foundation of effort as they start bringing in skill. At least in theory....
