[Rumour] Patrick Kane Trade Talks
NHL97OneTimer replied to Ilya Mikheyev's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
There are times when deadline deals work, but so often it's too late in the year to gel. If there's a player you're targeting and he's available for a price you're happy with, you do it early. -
If Bo goes then get rid of Rutherford!
NHL97OneTimer replied to Steve The Poolman's topic in Canucks Talk
I don't think anyone wants to see Bo traded as they like Bo on this team. He adds lots of value in terms of FO % and points on the PP. But here's the argument why one would want to trade Bo. Do you want to go through a cycle where the peak is making the playoffs or do you want to enter a new cycle where you could peak as a cup contender? If you keep Bo and don't trade him for peak value, you're saying that we have a window here where we need to win and we can do so with a few moves here and there. Unfortunately we're not close. Nowhere close. Great teams have a solid D. We're not getting a solid D from other teams apparently. We also have a bunch of good pieces with different ages and our best players are already hitting near peak salaries. So my (and many others') belief is that a rebuild is necessary. Selling high on some players is a real necessity unfortunately. Add that to high draft picks from sucking badly for a few years and you start putting together a core that's around the same age without any key gaps in positions.......this latter bit is the key to what's wrong with this current construct of the team. A strong D is hard to build. Getting great forwards is easier. Selling Bo would mark the start of a rebuild in my eyes......and I'm all for it. This is why I don't worry about OEL.....his salary will expire when the new team starts getting better and we will want to sign good free agents. The only move that doesn't support this approach is Miller's contract, which is why many didn't want him re-signed. So yes, trading your best player at his peak does suck.....but we should want to do it. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

And you know this because...... They obviously get nothing for him after the TDL and it's risky to wait until just before the TDL. Fine to wait it out a bit at this point but as we're well into January, time is ticking and luck is usually not on our side. For the record, I'm okay if we can re-sign Bo for a reasonable contract......especially if they can trade Miller before the TDL. But losing both and rebuilding is unfortunately needed at this point if we care about a cup. -

Wow - that would be the first time anyone in Vancouver gives a Boston player a cheer on the ice. -

Fixed . Gillis absolutely sacrificed the future of the club with his drafts. Kidding aside, I have no idea what Allvin does......aside from dishing out poor offers to Bo and raking through the different leagues looking for another Pettersson -

Agree. I'm sure his leadership has been under some scrutiny and he's now been insulted by the GM. It's now or never for this management to get some return. For those of you saying wait for the trade deadline......I get it, but history says Canucks on the trade block have an unfortunate habit of getting injured before the trade deadline. If there's a seriously good package now, do it.....or rather -

I have no problem with that.....but trading Bo will start setting this course for one, and two......we need a course charted at this point because right now we're doing circles. -

If we had a team that was close to contending but couldn't get over the hump, I'd absolutely agree with you. OEL's salary isn't great for us either way but the timing of it given the circumstances is where I drop it down the list. Even signing Bo for the rest of his career is actually not in our favour. I love what Bo is doing and I feel for him the way he's been treated, but we're now in this zone where his career isn't timing well with where the club is heading (nowhere). -

OEL IS NOT THE PROBLEM . Regardless, he will ride off into the sunset and retire a wealthy person without creating fuss during a rebuild. He will provide some veteran help to others. D-men drafted will not be ready until after OEL's contract is up. Miller on the other hand..... Back to Bo - trading him will mark the start of a new era and a rebuild. Brock and Bo are gone. If they can trade Miller, they should. They likely can't keep Kuz. These moves alone should pave the way towards a haul of draft picks. If EP and QH aren't all in for a rebuild, the Canucks could own several drafts to come. -

I love how a Bo thread has become another OEL thread. I guess that's one way to try to surpass the Miller thread. -

In their defence, if I were fed a bunch of peyote and spent a month in a sweat lodge, I'm pretty sure my mind would be elsewhere too.....like "why are we all naked" or "why did I just pet that mountain lion?" -
TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported Boeser's agent, Ben Hankinson thinks it will take a lot of work between now and the March 3 trade deadline to move him. LeBrun said the teams he's spoken with that have an interest in the winger lack sufficient cap space to acquire him. The Athletic's Harman Dayal suggested that clubs could see Boeser as an oft-injured, one-dimensional player whose even-strength production doesn't justify his expensive cap hit. Doesn't look good based on this report. Still early days though. https://thehockeynews.com/news/are-the-vancouver-canucks-closer-to-trading-brock-boeser

What if we bought out OEL? (Updated June 16 2023)

Ha ha fair enough. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he can keep this up for another 10 years while cleaning up his blind pass giveaways. -

Miller's contract may be more complicated than OELs based on timing. If we do a rebuild, OEL's contract would expire before we're actually back in the hunt again.....and drafted D-men will take more than 4 years to come to fruition anyway. Myers is in the same boat for me......let his contract run its course unless we can get a pick in return. Trading Miller before the next season is actually the priority in my eyes. Trading Boeser, re-signing Bo and Kuz are the next priorities.
