  1. They are a big team and they can press their will on a game if they are motivated. Especially against a smaller team that looks tired and has slowed down to the blues speed.
  2. They look gassed. That short handed goal the guy skated away from Hughes. Not much left in Demkos tank either. just not quite good enough to win enough to get in the playoffs. The Green staff killed all hope of making it.
  3. well I dont think he has played to that salary so again i ask if you got a D man you liked at 5 mill and let him walk isnt that the same as a trade straight across?
  4. wouldnt 7.5 for Brock be an over payment as well? I know we need to keep the asset and do what we can with him but Brock leaving might not hurt our production that much up front. Everyone is talking about trading him for a D man but if you can get a D man you like for the salary you would lose isnt it the same thing?
  5. Tough loss for sure. That was one of the worst periods of hockey we played in a while. Our starts have to improve. 11-3 seems unrealistic but the games we cannot lose are to VGK Dallas and Edmonton. Have to win those to have any chance. On Brock, I would hope they can do one of two things. either sign and trade him or sign him to a deal that makes sense cap wise. Hes not a useless player as some have suggested but as an asset he is declining with his lack of production. For 7.5 Million in cap space could we afford to just let him walk and use the 7.5 Million to sign a better D man. I mean really would we lose that much by him going to free agency? I know its unconventional to think that way and the Brock backers will scream bloody murder but if we cant get him under contract at a more reasonable amount how bad would it be to let him walk? Just thinking out of the box, is there a D man we value more than what BB brings out there this year in free agency?
  6. Alf loved this post, How did he get in here without criticizing Demko?
  7. totally agree and this has to be addressed by the league as the Florida teams have a huge advantage in this and can basically add one to two players based on tax difference alone.
  8. The success in 94 was built on a team that had almost no success before they drafted Linden in 88. It took Pat Quinn to keep the team in Vancouver and start rebuilding the team. First up was get a franchise goalie. Mclean. then he worked on rebuilding the center pool and a captain in Linden. instead of relying on the drafting he made trades and fleeced a couple teams. He built what was at the time the biggest team in the league something we could use now also. Added a superstar in Bure that no one other than Washington had on their radar due to needing to have played enough games to be eligible for the draft. Success followed as he was able to add pieces through some very astute trades all while not having to worry about a salary cap. This could be the biggest reason for his success at the trade table. Todays team is very different. We have to rely on the draft as we cannot spend beyond our mistakes at the draft table or in free agency. Signing Myers to 6x6 has been a difficult contract and then taking on OEL has handcuffed us even more. Its not that they are horrible, Myers has been decent at times but not at a 6 million a year pace. OEL has to be the laziest player i have seen in a long time. Hes not the player his contract says he is. I think the only D man who plays above his contract dollars is Luke Schenn. Hes been value for his deal. So we still need D and cap space. Drafting Jake and Juolevi. Those mistakes move you back a couple years in the rebuild and can make you start over as your core ages past where you sit. We have to be careful as Hughes. Horvat, Petterson and Demko start to grow into the age of where we need them to compete or we will be back at step 1 again. Up front its really hard to see what a trade would do especially if we moved a JT Miller however when they traded Linden for Bertuzzi and Mc Cabe it ripped the heart out of this team for a couple years. But it was the right move at the right time. Bertuzzi became the power forward we never had, Mc Cabe played well until he was part of the trade deals that became the Sedins. In order to get to the next level we need to be open to these kind of deals again. It would be short term pain for long term gain. I love what JT brings to this team. But we need to move past where we are right now and get better, faster, bigger, stronger and younger. it may take moving a key piece at this time but we need more than just adding a couple pieces. I think we still need another top 4 D man and another center as Petterson isnt really growing in that area. Hes a better winger. What happens next well we may go on a run and make the playoffs, but i think thats unlikely as this team looks completely spent just trying to get back into the picture. Before the draft we may make a move, JT would be great to see in our Uniform next season but either he or Brock are getting dealt here at some point. thats my thought. It may have to happen to move up in the league.
  9. I agree Alf The first thing you need to do when you start a re whatever, rebuild, retool is get a franchise goalie. Check, Pat Quinn did it with Mclean. Then work on getting a franchise D man. Quinn is making the case thats him. We still need to find one more really good RHD to play top four minutes. Myers is not really a top 4 OEL has been a let down in my mind. The next step is Center. Horvat , Miller are strong as 1-2 and Lammiko looks good on the 4th line. Petterson still looks better on the wing then at C. One more strong Center would be great. in my mind we need a top 4 RHD and another strong middle presence. The really great GMs are the ones that can go from rebuild to challenger. Make the hard decisions. If anyone thought we were done re-tooling after last season they were wrong the really hard work starts now. Its taking the team from we can make the playoffs to we can win the cup thats the really hard step.
  10. Theres really no point making a move at the trade deadline unless you get something great back. The idea of trading at the deadline is the teams that think they can win it all pay more than they would during the off season. If they arent willing to pony up more than why make the deal. Wait until the draft and see what you get offered there. Personally id rather they sign Motte and look to lose salary elsewhere. Pearson, Boeser, Poolman , Myers, OEL
  11. After 50 plus seasons of watching this team I dont get embarrassed too easily or too upset over a three game losing streak. I understand we were very lucky to have watched the Naslund years followed by the Sedin era and now its time for a re whatever. There are some good pieces to build around here and its still not done yet. We will need a few more good draft picks. A couple trades along the way and some much loved players may get moved. If there's one critique i have on this fan base is we tend to get a bit too attached to our players. Sometimes the best thing for the team and player is to move on. The Linden trade that brought back Bertuzzi and McCabe may have been one of the best trades ever made by our team. It hurt at the time but set us up for a long time after with McCabe turning into one of the Sedins. Miller is our best player not named Demko or Hughes right now and he may get traded, or maybe Boeser. I like both players and if they stay I will cheer for them. If they go i will say I hope we get fantastic assets in return. For me its always about the name on the front of the jersey not the one on the back.
  12. Why would you resign Halak after this garbage season. At worst there is depth in the organization. At best there has to be another option out there at roughly the same money. Isnt Halaks contract up at year end? its a no brainer just dont resign him.
  13. The team looks spent playing at a level that most would have to agree looked like it was not possible before Green was fired. I think Bruce has gotten everything he could out of this lineup but they all look tired. Bo, Garland, Boeser, Myers, OEL, all look spent Demko needs a capable back up and Halak was not it. Spencer Martin played well enough to deserve a chance at that role. Demmer is our MVP this year though I am not sold on Hogs and Pods despite many here who are huge backers. they have regressed through the season. Hopefully its just a learning curve thing. Our fourth line is good with Motte, Highmore and Lammiko. If we cant resign Motte i would look at someone from ABBY to move up. Chaisson is done after this year. One note on D is Myers has played well and if we can trade him and get some cap relief that might be a good thing. Ideally we would move OEL but i doubt there would be any takers on him due to the contract even if we gave him up for a 7 th round pick. one thing about him is in his own end he makes the lazy play every time. A swing of the stick, a dump of the puck rather than skating it out, he is beaten to the puck more times than any other D man. its amazing how many times i have said who was that D man that let his man go and it turns out to be OEL.I think he has value but really needs to be challenged to play better by this coaching group and this management team. maybe hes been playing hurt but he is always the spotlight on the bad play that turns into a goal against. Rathbone should be ready to move up next season. We can afford to move Myers if there is a taker. One thing we do need up front is a little bit of nasty. Size and speed. Has Raffi Torres had a kid yet? Brent Seabrook is still looking for him under the bed.before he goes to sleep at night.
  14. yes we traded Bryan McCabe to Chicago to get pick 3 i believe so we had one and three and traded 1 to Atlanta with the assurances they would take Stefan and and not one of the Sedins Mccabe came from the Linden trade that brought Bertuzzi as well I believe
  15. once we traded it to get both Sedins at 2 and 3 so Atlanta wouldnt take one of them
  16. I dont disagree that Miller is the better player but if you trade Bo, a league leading face off man you need another center to do what he does. Do we have that in the system? No Is that something we can develop quickly enough to replace him with this core? No Do we trade Bo? I would say NO. Center is not our issue with what we currently have unless you are on the dump Petey train. what we need is some consistency from our forwards. Hoglander and Podkolzin to keep developing and for one of our forwards, I am guessing Boeser to bring back a D man in return. Bruce has gotten all he can out of this group and they probably are a playoff team if he started the year with them.
  17. The problem is some of those inconsistent are our best players. Boeser Petey start the list,
  18. this from a two time Stanley cup champ. i hope PA and JR are paying attention.
  19. Where’s Alf to complain about Demmers save percentage. 6 goals doesn’t matter if he let in a couple dogs.
  20. its possible but what i see is he seems to play worse when given a rest. Its almost like he plays better when he has the workload. If we could somehow move Halak and bring up martin we could be in a better spot but with a NMC Halak has they say. Too bad,
  21. Alf the new meds aren't working time to switch to a new prescription. The bounce off the boards for the First goal was unstoppable as everyone was expecting the puck to come out the other side.Take that one away and the save percentage is fine. Demko is not above criticism as you say but this game was not one to blame on him. Again he is a top 5 goalie in the league and this team goes nowhere without him. Bolded above i agree with. He has given us every chance to get back into the playoff race.No one is asking Grant Fuhr for his Stanley Cup rings back with a career .887 save percentage. Your fixation on shot percentage is very misguided and getting old. Save percentage and shooting percentage are on a sliding scale they change every game. Anyone can make the argument that we let in too many goals. If you don't score more than three goals a game in this league you lose most games. Whats the shooting percentage for teams to win each night? Sometimes you outscore your goalies off night. Some nights he steals a win . It happens The loss was and should be blamed on the slow start and allowing the Caps free space to get to the pucks. Myers got a crappy penalty most likely if the refs had another look would not be called.Regardless we got a point in a game we probably would not have gotten at the beginning of the year and we gained on Vegas. This season is looking more and more like it will come down to our games against the Knights. unless they go on a big slide or the Kings start to drop games we have to win the head to head battles with Vegas.
  22. Why the hell would we do that? We have two better players for less money. Mathew’s scores goals but wants more cash. Demko wins games.
