[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at New York Rangers | Feb. 27, 2022

Once again our best player was our best player. Demko continues to be the biggest reason for their wins. He held us in there in the first until we got our legs. If we had a better start to the season we would be talking Vezina votes. Nice to see the balanced scoring. Lammiko continues to improve and looks like a steal in that trade. Highmore and Motte make a great 4th line with him. Defensively Myers and OEL have improved the last few games. It still scares me to have Hunt out there but this D lineup was the same crappy D lineup that we saw under Green. Having Hamonic back has helped for sure. it still scares me to see Hunt out there. There were a couple shifts where we left a guy standing on the crease alone while two chased the guy with the puck into the corner but that can happen to any team. Petey playing like he can has made a major difference. The empty netter just pads the stats. They cant just focus on one line. I thought Miller with Garland looked pretty dangerous all night. The power play had control and they had the bumper play a couple times open but fumbled the puck. Didnt get it through to Bo. The biggest difference i have seen the last two games vs the Flames and Rangers was our team speed looks like its back. We seemed slow against a few teams this past month or so. When the legs are moving we can compete with anyone. get the 2 points tonight and look out its really on after the Ducks and Oilers lost last night. Go Canucks go!! -
Management has to be straight with the players

Totally agree on this.Ok so the question becomes who is in our top 6? My top 6 on this team is Petterson, Miller Boeser Horvat Garland and ? Pearson is paid like a top 6. Some might suggest he shouldnt be there. Hoglander and Podkolzin obviously are not ready to be there so who is the 6th forward. Everyone bitched and complained about Beagle and Sutter but we do not have a 3rd line center. Bo could be the third line center if we could afford a second line center that was better offensively. We have way too much money tied up in three D men to be able to compete for a playoff spot and beyond. The top 6 are ok but just ok. Not enough size and grit with talent to compete. Petterson Garland Hoglander are all smaller players or play small. Right now that wont get it done. We need size and toughness to compete and play the game that will get us to the next level. You can have some smaller skill players however you cannot win consistently with a lineup of them. -

yes as long as you dont kick it you can deflect all you like -
try playing in Edmonton

This has to be addressed in the next CBA. The cap must be after taxes. The current cap gives a very large advantage to the teams in Florida and also a few other states. its like a 10% advantage to some teams

Go on another win streak and things could change. what will be most important are the head to head matchups. We just cant lose to The California teams, or Calgary/Edmonton again. Need maximum points in head to heads -
Allvin hasn't had enough time to make any moves yet. The trade deadline will be the first real opportunity to make any changes and that will look different if we are in the hunt for the playoffs. I cant see them standing pat with the current D we have. I'm sure most here recognize it will take a move to upgrade the back end. Who goes will depend on what discussions they have with Miller. If he is willing to stay long term they might just move Boeser. He is the most likely trade IMHO. Qualifying at 7.5 will make the salary cap space even tighter and thats something they have publicly said they want to address. Really the only untouchables they have are Demko and Hughes. Any other player you have to listen to the proposals. Its all about what is being offered in return. No matter who is being discussed the opening bid has to include some young RHD prospect that can play. With 12 Million in salary cap tied to Myers and OEL its tough to compete unless someone or all the others play above their cap hit. Schenn is definitely there. if Hamonic could somehow show up they might not be this bad. Really it all depends on what management thinks is necessary. If its going to take a longer term fix you even look at moving Horvat, Miller along with Boeser. Whenever a management changes its not a one move and we are done thing it takes more than a few decisions to take the team over the top. This team has a few good pieces. Its in a lot better place with Bruce getting the most out of the players instead of the least. Dealing from weakness is always tough

Solid effort tonight. Still opportunities to shoot rather than pass but better on both sides of the ice. Motte high more look solid. Hughes was solid tonight. Halak should have had the shut out. -
Discussion- garland and Miller trades.
mikeyman109 replied to Paul-walker's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Garland isnt going anywhere as his cap hit will be an issue for most teams. Anaheim and Nashville would be the only teams that are competing that have space to add salary. Miller could be traded but it all depends on the return. Right now the only untradeable players from our standpoint are and should be Demko and Hughes. Miller and Horvat to me are right there but depending on the return i would listen to any proposal but it would really have to bl,ow the socks off to move them Everyone else including Petterson should be on the table. More likely players to be traded are Boeser, Motte(only because he will be in high demand) and backup goalies Halak and even Martin. Its hard to deal from weakness. We are not a first place team with teams lining up to take our players outside of our best players and they have to be able to take on extra salary as well. Its up to Allvin and Rutherford at this point and we will see what they want to do. The only thing is if you move Miller you may as well move Horvat also and start looking for younger players to take their roles on. The next couple months will tell us what direction they are heading in. If we can close the gap on the teams ahead of us I believe they will stay with the current roster. -

This team looked like a team with lingering Covid effects. They really never had their legs all game. Demko played his heart out and he deserved better than he got this game. Save percentage was out of this world but we still didnt win.The issue with this team is consistency from the top 9. Hughes played well again and he had to eat the extra minutes that Myers left when he got thrown out. Myers will probably get 1 or 2 games for that hit especially after he was so obviously pissed off after the glove in the face right before the hit. you can blame Miller on the play in OT which he has to be smarter than that but really the Power play let them down last night. There's a lot of blame to go around and its not just on JT. The best players on the ice for us last night outside of Hughes and Demko were Highmore and Motte. Thats bad. We dont win many games when thats the case. should have been a penalty on the play where Highmore was dumped into the boards. The Refs were not great last night but sometimes it goes our way sometimes the other. They need a roster change so everyone can relax and go about playing. If Miller is getting traded it might be best to do it sooner than later. No trade should be without a D man coming back. If they come home with points in the next two games losing this one wont hurt as much. -
As with any player you trade him if the return makes sense. I would trade Petey if it got us two NHL defensemen right now. There's no doubt we need to improve the back end but how we do that and who do we trade thats up for speculation. Miller, Horvat, Boeser could all be traded. Petterson also. No matter what happens people here will complain we either didn't get enough for them or we didn't give them enough time to develop in Vancouver. Personally id prefer they resign Miller and look at moving other players out. Boeser Pearson, even Petey. I think you could make a better argument for trading these three rather than JT. Just my humble opinion. Really the only untouchables on the team at this point should be Demko and Hughes. After that its all ears on what proposals we get. Return on investment. Thats what its all about.

That was one of their most complete games of the season. Martin played well. Miller Boeser Petey. Loved Schenn. Great game all around. Now add Horvat to the mix. I think this team can make the playoffs. Still in it. -

I am glad that the circus has finally amassed its management team so we can focus on the play on the ice again. Whenever there is a change in management things take a bit to get going. Quinn took a few years building the 94 team. Burke and Nonis a few to get the 2011 team started and Gillis to add a few pieces. Its not instant success. I dont know anything about Patrik Allvin but he has a big job ahead of him. Its going to take some time and changes to get this team competitive for a cup. There will be some unpopular decisions made. There may even be some popular ones. Its going to be interesting for sure. -
[PGT] Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks | Jan. 25, 2022

That was a heart-wrencher of a game to lose last night. Any time we lose to the Oilers it sucks. Some thoughts on the game. Martin played well but was probably his own worst enemy on the soft goal that made it 2-1. You just cant let those goals in the NHL. That's the difference between being in the NHL or the AHL. He played great in his two games and i wouldn't be upset if he was our back up next year with Clark working with him. He was not the reason they lost though. The offense needs to score more than 3 goals a game. if you dont you will not win many games in this league. Not too many teams are winning the 1-0 game anymore. We need our highest paid forwards to produce like they are highest paid forwards or we are not going anywhere. Nice goal by Petey last night. Miller with a great defensive play and pass to Motte for the shorthanded goal. We just didnt have enough depth to produce last night. Im not sure what to say about Myers. Some nights he looks amazing. A guy that big that can skate and flies into the O zone. Then he looks like he did last night where on one shift he really seemed to be struggling to get his feet moving. He looked gassed and slow. Then in OT where he should never be out, he dumps the puck in giving up possession to a team that has hemmed us in throughout the extra period. Its not only not a smart play its either plain laziness or the inability to understand how to play the game 3 on 3. Either way he should never see the ice in OT again. Brad Hunt should never see the ice in the NHL again. I don't see anything of value in his game. BB must but I'm not seeing it. Dickenson needs to be moved. He isn't what he was advertised as and really isn't a contributor in any category. I am not sure what Bruce was thinking putting him out in OT. You already gave up the point to the Oilers with the two goals in the third. At least try to get the second point with some offensive players. Hoglander and Podkolzin. I sometimes am unsure what the deal is with these two players. Hoglander has had dozens of grade A chances this last month and cannot buy a goal. Maybe OT would have been a good chance to see what he can do. But you need the chance to be able to show it and I'm sure they would have been at least as efficient as Dickenson. Podz has been hit and miss but we expect that from a rookie. Again hard to score when you are stapled to the bench. if he isn't going to play in those situations we wont know what he can do. For those wanting to blow up the team its pretty clear we have needs especially on D. Right D to be exact. We may have to make a hockey trade to attain that but who we trade may be an argument from almost everyone here. When healthy Horvat and Miller drive a lot of the play. They should, they are our two best centers. Horvat is our best face off guy and if you think that hasn't been noticeable the last week or so you haven't been watching the games. How much better would the PP or the PK be if he was in to take some of the draws? Would the Oilers have had 50 shots if they started without the puck a few less times? When Boeser plays with Miller and Petey they are dangerous. Horvat with Pearson and Garland is another good line . Hogs and Pods can be on the third line with Dickenson. They are still young players and we have better players at this time ahead of them for ice time. Dickenson is not a very good player from what we have seen and if he got moved i would be happy with that. Lammiko with Motte and Chaisson if he is still here although i don't think Chaisson skates very well. Highmore may be a better option. If Hamonic cant play we need to either move him or waive him. When healthy he is an asset. This may be a lost season for many reasons but they have definitely played much better after BB got here. Pointing out they are last in the league in some categories while true isn't a real check of where they are at since Boudreau took over. Given the circumstances with Covid protocol, the layoff after Boudreau arrived they are about where they should be on the outside looking in. Healthy they may challenge for a playoff spot but they are not healthy enough to compete with the best teams in the league. Oh and one more thing the league needs to address the tax issues where salary cap is involved. You cant have teams in states with no income tax competing with teams that have one. Its an unfair advantage to the Florida teams but Bettman wont do that because he wants them to have success and keep milking the Canadian teams for their money. ok Rant over. Losing to the Oilers brings out my Pissy Pants. on to the next game and lets get everyone back healthy. Go Canucks Go -

So hard to play with the depleted lineup. No speed to match the coilers. Needed to keep them down two and the soft goal didn’t help. Cost us a point although Martin played very well otherwise. Missing Horvat and Garland especially in OT. Take the point and run. Get the rest back on this trip.
