  1. Two games with a depleted lineup no shame in the effort. Tough on two of the three goals but the third one was on DiPietro, he certainly wasn't the reason we lost. Save percentage isnt killing this team. Shooting percentage is. We had 21 shots in the first period and one goal. Their goalie didnt play lights out, we shot from everywhere we just cant score. Shots only show we were in their end, not where the shots came from. 4 shots from the Blues in the 2nd and 2 goals. Thats a high shooting percentage. We out shot them 21-10 in the first 11-4 in the second 7-3 in the third and scored 1 goal. Even with our full lineup we have the same issues ala Tampa Bay game. When it happens once or twice you can claim the other goalie out played ours. When it happens all the time its a sign we have a talent gap. Last night it was exaggerated. Boeser had 6 shots but almost all of them were right into the goalie. Hoglander cant hit the net and when he does, he shoots it into the crest also. As for Highmore, Dickenson, Chaisson, Bailey, i dont expect them to score more than 5 or 6 goals a year. Petey and Boes i do. The Power play must improve and become consistent to make the playoffs. The penalty kill has to get back to being reliable. Last nights game wasnt unexpected as a result. We have to throw this one away and move on hopefully to next game with some of our players back.
  2. As I have said before our save percentage is not the issue. Our shooting percentage is.
  3. Boeser is a shooter. To have success he needs playmakers to make a play to him. Bossy wasn’t a play maker either. He was a shooter also. Yes he is dependant on Miller and Petey to set him up. Many players have been like that Over the years.
  4. This I totally agree with. But We can’t score and the issue is we can’t score. If Demko gives up more than 2 goals we can’t win. Dipietro is not anything close to Demko yet and this we didn’t win the game. But we won’t win many games 1-0
  5. Disagree the first goal was a first rate tip. The second goal would have gone in on most NHL goalies. they out shot then but we’re not really dangerous. Husso played well but didn’t have to play great.
  6. The only goal that was a bad goal by Di Pietro was the one that went in off the blocker.
  7. Can’t expect much more from this lineup. No Horvat No Miller. No Garland. No Demko. No points.
  8. How many times do we hear that. We outshot them but we can’t score. Hmm there’s a reason for that. Their goalie has a higher save percentage because our forwards are not that good.
  9. The deal with that is our forwards are shooting at his crest. From the goal line. Our outshooting they is really a facade. They have made the best of their chances. We have no finishers shooting the puck.
  10. I agree 100% it comes down to what the return is. A legit RHD and either a draft pick or another prospect. I would prefer the pick as then our group can pick the player. It should be a 2nd round pick at least.
  11. I would agree they would make the deal in the off season especially if we are within reach of the playoffs. The key piece is what would the return be to trade Miller? No player is untouchable, its always about what you get back. If Miller brought us two good young Right D men you might have to have a look at that. Everything in perspective.
  12. Good game last night. Both goals were a little of the lucky bounce variety. To play the cats even over 60 was a very good showing for a depleted lineup. I didn't think the refereeing was awful last night although the trip on Petterson I don't know how that doesn't get called. Martin played well for a guy who hadn't started in 5 years. Good to get a point in a game where you were heavily out-manned and they could have gotten two if either Hoglander buries one of his grade A chances or Pearsons post goes in. Pearson showed up for the power play goal and the post and then went invisible for the rest of the game. OT we would likely have not had that threesome out given our regular lineup. Defended actually very well for the three minutes but were not going to be a threat on their own I thought we were probably in trouble once it got to the shootout. Great save one the first deke by Martin. Barkov made him look minor league with the winner. Great effort by Martin though. Glass half full says we got a point against a very good team with our depleted lineup and saw how some players can play given extra minutes. On to the next game against St Louis and hopefully we get some of our regulars back without any Covid issues. Go Canucks Go
  13. Last night they really outworked the Preds who got a bit unlucky with a couple posts but really they didnt seem too dangerous trading chances with us. Our D was ok last night. Hughes had a major blunder at the blue line that led to a breakaway. Thats gotta get cleaned up he does that way too much. Myers didnt look as bad as he has on a couple games this trip OEL skated better Burroughs is exactly the kind of 5-6 we need. Not afraid to back his team mates up, definitely an upgrade on Hunt. He will learn to pick his spots a bit better as he gets more experience Schenn is a vet and he played a very good game last night. Unsung hero maybe this year Poolman played well also Demko was solid again. I cant believe we had three games this trip where people were slagging his play. The difference tonight was we matched them on the power play with a goal, and we got three goals. Its crazy how people expect Demko to shut out the other team every night. He gives us a good chance of winning every game he starts. Thats all i want from a goaltender, i dont care what his save percentage is. Nobody asked Grant Fuhr for his Stanley Cup rings back because he let in 5 goals when his team scored 6 or 7. Petey looks like he is getting his mojo back although i do wonder with the shaking of the arm last night if he has had trouble with the wrist injury. He hasnt looked himself and that would explain a lot. Brock has had a little heat here lately but that was an elite tip in front of the net on the Power play. Hopefully Bo and Garland dont get hit too hard with the Omicron. The third/fourth line is playing well. They can be difference makers if they keep that up. and not at the salary cap numbers we had three seasons ago. For those saying we are still too far back, we have a lot of Home games to make up. Less travel through the second half of the season and the team is starting to gel if we go another stretch that is 10-4-1 in the next 15 games we will not only be back in the mix but should have other teams chasing us.
  14. Had the game on PVR so i just watched it. Nice to see the top 6 score. Demko played just as well as the other games on this trip but got some run support. Its vital we have the power play working. We cannot afford to rely solely on our goalie being a 990 save percentage. It isnt viable hockey in the NHL. You have to score 3 or more goals to have success. Myers didnt look awful today but OEL looked off. Maybe he is sick but he didnt skate well on a few plays. Someone complained about Boeser and i thought he was dangerous all day and nice play to Miller on the EN goal. Peteys best game in Two years. Finally some finish. Bo scores on the PP as well. Thats Top 6 production. Also is it just a coincidence that Hunt was out and Burroughs in that we win? Win in Nashville and I will consider this a successful trip.
  15. This is the difference maker. They can take liberties, take chances and are not afraid to take a penalty to save a goal because you cant hurt us on the PP
  16. 5 goals for and none on the power play the last three games. Gotta score to win in this league.
  17. Defense is just one of the issues. Myers and OEL were -2 in the game yesterday and they looked about -4. Myers is back to being his stumbling turnover self. Sometimes he is amazing with the way he skates for a big man then there are times when he cant stay on his skates. For 6 million a year we need better from him. And Yes contract dollars matter. Players on a 3 million dollar contract are not expected to play the tough minutes against the best the other team can trot out. Myers is being paid as a top defenseman and not playing up to it although you could argue so are a lot of other players right now. Same for OEL although he has played better this year. This team needs another NHL D man badly.but can we afford him? The real reason we have lost these three games is the lack of offensive production. The top 9 have not produced and this is why we lose to the good teams. One shot on four power plays is not a good stat for any team. we have scored 2 goals, 2 goals and one goal on this trip. That is just not good enough to win in this league. You might win a couple games a year by a 1-0 score but if the goalie has to be perfect to win a game you are not a very good team. The 4th line actually has played well on this trip and i agree they have not been the issue in deciding the games on this trip. I rarely expect us to perform well with a 10 am start. Its why the east coast teams like to play afternoon games against West coast teams. Its to their advantage.
  18. We need our forwards to match their forwards. Our top 9 has lost the last three games and our defence is putrid. Myers and OEL were-2 today and they looked -4. You are incorrect in your assessment again Alf.
  19. Last nights game we played a bit better but not getting more than 1 shot on 4 power plays is very concerning. Simply put, the 5 guys Tampa can trot out on their power play are better than the 5 we can put out at this time. Having said that Petey should not be the net front presence. His strength is the shot from the side wall. Bo or Miller should be the net front presence. Brock should be the shot on the other side wall. The point shot is not solid either. I miss Salo who could score from the point. Brad Hunt is not playing well and needs to go back to Abby. Burroughs was the better defender and i know Boudreau had previous time with Hunt but it seems that is clouding his assessment. Myers was a tire fire again running into his own players, turning the puck over, not being able to clear the front of the net. Hughes has had a better year defending but that didnt show last night. OEL needs to bury the chances he gets skating into the offensive play. if he scores on the premium chances he got last night its a different game. Demko wasnt bubble Demko but he played well. To say he didnt doesnt give credence to the quality of the chances he faced compared to the other goaltenders on this trip. 90 shots and 4 goals. I dont remember the 2v0 breakaways the other goalie stopped? Vasilevsky was the Conn Smythe winner last year. I expect he might outplay Demko and given that we are not icing a lineup expected to challenge for the cup again this year he most likely does. Sometimes expectations are unrealistic. Tampa and Florida are cup challengers again this year. We are still building. We are still finding out what our young players can do. I dont think we should be trading Petey or Brock or Miller yet. We do need cap space and a RHD. It might take trading a player that we have had for a few seasons to get those. I do know when the Sedins came to us in 99 it took 12 years to get to the cup finals. we arent getting there without some stumbling along the way. We have been spoiled for most of the 2000's with the West Coast Express and the Sedins. It will take building another prospect pool, some trades and some luck to get another team together like 94 . or 2011. We will have some success, and then we will have some fails.
  20. lots of players not playing up to their potential or their contract this game/. 4th line contributes and should be the difference if the top 9 match the other team. to only get 1 shot on 4 power plays is not a good effort by the best players we can ice. There is a talent gap between us and the better teams in the league. This is like watching the 80s Canucks against the Oilers. we would out shoot them but when they got a chance they scored. We need a consistent scorer. We thought Petterson was it but he has fallen off a cliff. Someone has to be the finsher. Playing Brad Hunt over Burroughs has not been a very good move IMHO. Myers has returned to form running into his own players giving the puck up in his own end etc. when you cant score you dont win.
