[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks | Dec. 16, 2021

And to think there were people on this board who wanted to sign him at 11 mill a year. wow -
Its nice to see the team getting a bit more puck luck and results as well. They are not built to be a smother you defense. They need to be a fast pressure the puck kind of team. Build off the fore check and pounce on turnovers. Green and Baumer kept trying to collapse to the net to defend and that meant the opposition retrieved the puck more thus creating more chances in our zone. Now we battle in the corners in our end and try to block the shot, allowing us to turn it over and create some odd man rushes of our own.In the other end we are pressuring the puck causing D men to turn the puck over or make a snap decision. We have the speed to play this type of game and the results are showing. Demko has played well all along, the players in front of him seem to be having a bit more fun as well. Hughes and Petey on the PK? who would have thought it? Right now we have three lines that can threaten you. Its been a while since you could say that. Get healthy on D and look out. Blue skies.

While i would have preferred Lombardi I am still hopeful we can land Mc Farland in the GM role. we need some new blood in the system. Boudreau is an excellent coach. Rutherford is just an Ok POHO We really need the GM to be a winner. Having experience in the roles is vital to winning a championship. We have it in spades so far

Was the Sundin team better than the 2011 team on paper ?
mikeyman109 replied to MaxVerstappen33's topic in Canucks Talk
The 94 team was better than the 2011 team they were better balanced. Had size speed and more depth. the 2011 team benefited from playing in a very weak division regular season. With a couple breaks both could have won the cup but the 94 team got ripped off with the league moving the game a day back to give the teams a “rest” which really benefited the rangers. the 2011 team got burned by the suspension of their only healthy defence man for the late hit. Still not sure that was worth 4 finals games but I am a homer. -
I’m in the Lombardi or McFarland camp. I also am in the hell no Gillis Gilman camp. Gillis was a player agent. He has not had another job since he left. If he had done such a great job he would have been hired by somebody else already. Lombardi has two cups as a GM. Mcfarland looks to have been part of building a contender in Colorado nonsense in going backwards.

[PGT] Los Angeles Kings at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 06, 2021

watching the game tonight i was impressed the way the D played as there appeared to be no sit back and wait for the play to come to them. I think it threw the Kings a bit that there was pressure on them in our end. Myers and Poolman actually looked decent. The fore check was great and turned the puck over especially on the Lammiko goal. The energy level was definitely higher than in previous games and we looked like a faster team. Demko was his usual great self and got some run support finally. you cant win in this league scoring 2 goals or less every night Pettersson had his best game of the season and looked dangerous again Brock scores and played a lot better as well. Bruce has had an effect on the team already. Looking forward to what he brings to the team longer term. I posted earlier this week about needing an established NHL coach to replace Green. Well you couldnt find a more established coach than Boudreau. Wins everywhere he has gone, never had a losing season.Pretty much the definition of what we were looking for. -
Having watched every season of this team its not hard to understand the frustration the fans are having. Its been a lot of losing for most of the fan base to swallow. One thing that is for sure is the Canucks have never done well with unproven coaches. Its in their history. They Hired Quinn and he had a good run in Vancouver but he had the Flyers on an NHL record 35 game unbeaten streak before coming to Vancouver, .554% Crawford- had success and won a cup in Colorado before coming to Vancouver,.554% Vigneault- success in Montreal before coming to Vancouver, almost won a cup in 2011, .632% Sometimes teams get lucky and hire a first time coach and he does ok but more often than not its the experienced guys that take the team over the top. we didnt have that with Bill Laforge, Tom Watt, Rick Ley, Tom Renney, Benning hasnt found a way to build a complete team. We do have a goaltender who keeps us in the game most nights in Demko. What we do not have is a complete team.We are missing key components on defense for sure. Hughes is a one dimensional player. a good one dimensional player but really just an offensive defenseman. You can have those if you have more to build around him.OEL plays the same game as Hughes.Myers is struggling this season. Poolman is not Tanev. Schenn is probably the only guy on the back end that has played to his potential or above. Burroughs is a pleasant surprise but he is not a top 4 Defenceman on any team. Up front we have too many of the same type of player.we are very easy to play against and we let the gritty forwards go. Boeser has been MIA most of this season since his injury in the preseason. Pettersson has been awful more nights than not. Miller has been frustrated and its hard to keep dragging your a$$ out there when your line mates are not getting the job done. Horvat hasnt been the same since covid, Hoglander has played ok but he isnt going to carry this team. Pearson has been invisible most of the season so far. Garland has been the one Canuck forward that has performed well almost every game. Dickinson has been a huge disappointment, Dowling as well. Chaisson should never have been signed. Lammiko looks lost. Motte has been himself but not the Motte we saw in the playoff bubble, however none of them have been. Benning has not improved this team enough to save his job in my opinion although he has done a good job of assembling talent he obviously doesn't have the IKEA instructions on how to put it together properly. It has been a good trade to bring in OEL and Garland but the rest of the team has not performed up to the needed standards. in a good organization Green would have been let go already.Wins, losses, PP percentage, PK percentage are reallty the biggest ways to evaluate a good coaching performance. Green does not a good record on any of those right now.its obvious he has lost the room. The fans especially long term fans, not ones that just joined the team with the Sedin era, or the Naslund era, no not even the Linden era, the long term , original fans of the team have seen this before. Its time the make changes. Changes to the management group, changes to the coaching staff and most of all changes to a group of players that are not performing on the ice. Hire proven people with a track record of winning. You cant cheap out on the people that run the organization or the team.Hire a president, hire a GM and most of all hire a proven NHL coach, Green is not that guy.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Colorado Avalanche | Nov. 11, 2021

The Cap dumps were good and Garland and OEL seem to be playing fairly well. Its the regression some of the team has made that cant be explained. How did Pettersson become so poor as fast as the ink dried upon his new contract. His attitude changed as well. theres no fire, no back check, Defensively theres really no excuses. This is exactly what the pundits were saying would happen. The D isnt very good. Demko has to play lights out just to keep the team in it. Im not sure if there are long term covid effects at work here, im not one for excuses but they dont look very fast at the best of times. What confounds me is the inability to score even on the power play. It really makes no sense that this team cant put up more than 2 goals a game One sure way to tell how things are going is to watch the guys glaring at each other, shaking their heads after plays, not a lot of stick taps other than to Demko when he bails them out. The body language on this team is telling. The players look like they have given up already other than a few players. A change needs to happen or you can write this season off. -

This team looks like so many before it. No heart no direction. They look like they have lost their way. So different than the team that played in the bubble playoffs. its insanity to keep trotting out the same line up, the same system and expect a different result. Its obvious the players have either not bought in or the system doesn't work. Coaches are judged on few things. Wins first and foremost. How are we doing there? Special teams. Good coaches have good special teams both PP and PK. Hmm remind me where we sit in those categories? A good sign is preparation. Teams that can come out playing hard right away. Possibly score the first goal although its not a necessity, it does show a teams readiness and willingness to compete. Whats the record of teams scoring first against us? Talent is one thing and we seem to have lots up front. Even the Colorado broadcasters were like why cant this Canucks team score even on the power play? Something is broken here and its hard to watch and even harder to justify spending any money to watch them. -
Sports page was ahead of its time. Unfortunately it was a victim of the internet age and the expansion of sports networks. Once you could get a highlight show every hour or so SP became redundant and unable to compete financially with the big networks. It did give us so many great sportscasters in Vancouver including John Shorthouse, Barry McDonald, Don Taylor, Blake Price, Dan Murphy Dave Randorf and Chris Hebb the commissioner of the BCHL. I am sure i missed some there. RIP Paul Carson. The Lions have been a victim of the NFL's success in Canada. The blackouts in the CFL markets have not helped as we can watch every NFL team every Sunday Monday and Thursday each week. Back when Comrie owned the team he was on a call in show and I called and suggested they go to the local high schools and give out tickets to the kids to help grow the interest in the game. Get the kids and their families interested in going to a game. Increase the attendance through growing the game in the high schools. He replied that they wouldnt compromise their season ticket holders and now there are less kids watching the CFL than the NFL. Its still a great idea. High school football is still a big deal in many schools in the province. The lions need to make it affordable and enjoyable for the younger generation to watch CFL games. Part of the issue here is the CFL and Lions dont own the stadium and I dont believe make any money from concessions and parking which means they only want/need more ticket sales. Theres just so many competitors for the entertainment dollar in Vancouver including the Mariners and Seahawks in Seattle. Its too bad.

I really miss the days of Vic Rapp, Kenny Hinton,Leon Bright,Joe Paoapao, Al Wilson Don Matthews, Quick Parker, Nick Hebler Glen Jackson, Mervyn Fernandez Larry Key, Mel Byrd, Darnell Clash,Roy Dewalt, Jerry Tagge, Jim Young, John Pankratz, Jan Carinci, Jim Sandusky, Sammy Greene, Damon Allen, When Matt Dunigan was a quarterback not a commentator. The cold wet end zones at Empire. Before the NFL could be seen everywhere every weekend we had the CFL and it was a great game to watch.

Im coming around to the lets get rid of Green side of things. Hes had a long run here and very limited success. The special teams have not been good. Im not sure what we are doing playing Chaisson? He has not been a difference maker on the PP. why waste a spot on him for 8 minutes a game. He is slow and cant keep up to the play. The PK has been awful and the biggest difference this year is we are not winning face offs to start the PK. I am not sold on Miller killing penalties. He has the heart but hes not the guy i want getting hit with a slap shot from the point. Bo needs to take the face offs to start the PK. For all the talk of having an offensive top 9 instead of top 6 its not appearing to be a successful venture. Right now our best players this year have been Garland, Demko, and OEL. Bo started off the season ok but he has faded as well. As long as this remains the same we will struggle.Miller has been better the last three games or so. Demko has played well or they might not have any wins. For all the worry and concern over the Defense this season they have played reasonably well, in my opinion. When you cannot score more than 2 goals a game you will not win many games in this league. Pettersson needs to stop trying to rush through everyone. He isnt big enough or fast enough to beat 5 players. If he wants to play for a consistent winner he better step up because right now he is part of the reason they are not winning. Miller needs to check some of that emotion and use it on the other team. Keep his comments on his own team mates to himself. Right now this team doesnt look very cohesive. In the bubble they looked like they were all together. Now it looks like a lot of singular efforts out there. Something needs to change. I would be ok with firing Green but i would ask one very important question. Who would be better?

Just a horrible team overspent on Reilly. No running game. Offensive line is offensive. Defensively they can’t stop anyone. Kickers have been awful and have cost them at least two games this season. So bad in all three phases of the game. Also Reilly is so overrated. He often holds the ball too long and then he throws some lame ducks. It’s hard enough to have interest in the CFL these days. The lions being as bad as they are I can’t justify spending any money going to see them or waste any more time watching. They need to jettison Reilly and look for some new talent. Start with a few linemen that can pass block.

Is Pettersson not the same player we expect him to be?
mikeyman109 replied to b3nnyb's topic in Canucks Talk
Petterson missed most of camp after missing half the season last year. That cant be good for him and he is starting slow because of it. I am inclined to think he will get back to his normal production however he is trying to do way too much by himself. Playing back with Boeser and Miller will help all three. they just need time together as Boes was hurt all training camp also. This cannot be overstated. Green needs to get the lines set and let the lotto line gel again. Im sure Petey will be fine. -
[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Chicago Blackhawks | Oct. 21, 2021

Continuing the Blackhawks hurt in a winless season is satisfying except they are a horrible team and we should win against them. A much better effort from the players you expect to lead this team although the Lotto line is still out of sync. 5 on 5 they were horrible and at times dominated in their own end. Boeser with the PP goal was nice to see but they were not great without the man advantage. If the best line on the ice are Highmore Dickinson and Hoglander this team is going nowhere. They were noticeable every shift. Garland looks like a steal.OEL played well. Hughes makes all the difference both on the power play and 5 on 5. Demko played well. We could have easily been down 4-1 on some of those shifts. Rathbone and Burroughs played well also. whether its the level of the competition or they are just figuring it out i liked their game last night. Burroughs with the stand up for Hogs was nice to see also. Pearson played his best game of the year. Still too many giveaways in their own end especially and by the forwards and the turnovers at our blue line have to be cleaned up. A good team will punish us for that. Beat Seattle and come home above 500 is a good start with a 6 game road trip to start the season. -

Much better effort from more than a few players tonight.
