  1. I dont disagree but the amount of offensive zone starts Bo gets when he is not expected to take every defensive zone face off will help his scoring as well. even if he wins a draw in the O zone and picks up an assist when someone else scores its a positive for his plus minus and also his stats. I think you will see Bo score more goals this season as long as Sutter and Beagle are healthy
  2. Great post. I completely agree with you. The difference this season compared to last on D is when not if Edler and Tanev go down with injuries we have Myers and Benn instead of Hutton and Stecher. That's an upgrade in a huge way. If by some miracle the Elders stay relatively healthy Marky gets to play behind an actual NHL defense core. Up front having an actual top 6 that contains NHL level talent rather than the likes of Granlund,Goldobin, Gaunce, should provide a much needed boost of not only goal production but more grit and compete than those players were able to give. Who is more likely to dig a puck out of the corner, Miller or Goldobin? who is more likely to stand up for a team mate Ferland or Granlund? Pearson showed he has some skills in the last 10 games of the year. Now Green as some options in the top 5 he didnt have before. The special teams will look different as well, or they should. Power play point men will be a big change , i hope No more just having Edler jump over the boards with the number one unit. Myers actually has a point shot. Hughes may be a better option as much as he doesnt have a big shot he is a play maker from the point and can get the puck through. I like options here. On the PK if Beagle and Sutter can not miss 60 games it will free BO up to play a more offensive game. Also the Roussells and Leivos, Virtanen even can play in this role rather than the star players. Jamie Benn on D in this role helps out Tanev especially on the PK. its good to have depth at these positions and thats the difference. no more tire fires in our own end and a stronger presence up front should make up the points needed to make the playoffs.
  3. If someone else claims him so be it. I wont be worried about it. That would be his third team. If they can get the most out of him good on them. Ia m sure we will be just fine. Perhaps JB can trade him for a pic even a 5th rounder
  4. I completely disagree with you here. He has had his chances. At least Hutton came back to camp in great shape and put forth the effort into getting the things the coaching staff wanted him to do. Goldobin still doesn't realize there are two ends of the ice to play in. His coverage in the D zone is awful. Until he learns to back check he will be a KHL/ AHL regular. And why do we have to give him time as we have better options today? If he signs his qualifying offer he will start the year in Utica.
  5. This i agree with , you need to find the core players you want to play the type of game you are going to play. If you have a big tough strong core you might supplement it with a couple speed players, or if you have a skill based core like the Canucks do you might look for more rough and tumble role players. One thing i have learned from watching the game for 50 years plus is that there is no "one" way to build a team. Some have done it through the draft , others have built through trades. I think it all depends on what your GM's strengths are. Benning's is drafting. Quinn's was trading. Both can be successful its just different. So how you build the team can be the same way. I don't know that I share the idea of having a team full of plumbers waiting for superstars to come later but i do like what we have currently on the team and what JB added this summer.
  6. I agree here Brock is not in the same bargaining position as the other RFA's. One thing JB might be looking at is how long to lock Brock up for. As you stated there are a couple other comparable contracts we could see. Tarasenko is a good one. With the core of the team starting to come together and the supplementary pieces added its looking like this could be a good run for a few years. Brock will want to be a part of that. I don't know that they will get him locked up for 6 but i think 7 is a fair number given what we have seen so far in the market. Now if a Tkachuck hits a home run with Calgary for way more and Brock isnt signed first that could set a bad precedent
  7. Goldy has had his chances and now like Ben Hutton has been replaced. He was given the chance to be a top 6 guy on this team and couldn't grasp the concept that you have to play at both ends of the ice in this league. On a team without better options he might flourish but who do you sit besides the contracted players we cant move to accommodate him and where does he fit in? He isn't good enough to play full time on the top line with Petey and Brock and now there are better options. He doesn't fit with Horvat and even Baertschi had better show up at this camp or he wont be on that line either. Pearson was a nice surprise at the end of the season last year. Miller and Ferland look to have roles to play here. Goldobin is a victim of the numbers game. He isn't big enough like Jake to play on the fourth line if he isn't producing thus he has to score regularly to be in the line up.If he doesn't get traded he will have to have an amazing training camp to make this roster. Other wise he will start the year in Utica. Of course that is only if he signs his qualifying offer and doesnt get a better offer to play back in the KHL.
  8. Wait you didnt post the record of the team the last four years. Its part of our drinking game. I am thirsty.
  9. I don't disagree with your logic when it comes to drafting star or higher skill level players because I have used the same logic when it comes to drafting Norris caliber defensemen. they just don't come up in free Agency very often if ever and trading for a star D man will cost you a lot of prospects or picks. Now having said that there has to come a time when you decide we have our core players and you supplement what you have with Role players. You need a grinder or two to retrieve the puck for said star players. You need some grit to be harder to play against and that can come from role players or even a star player if you have that luxury. You need a face off man, if you use one of your star type players you don't maximize their offense. Bo is a perfect example here. Almost leads the team in goals last year yet takes 80% of the faceoffs in his own zone. His Offensive starts were way down due to the Sutter and Beagle injuries. What I am saying in a roundabout way is you cant keep depending on your draft picks to fill all the holes you have. You have to determine what you don't have in your prospects and look for that elsewhere. JB has done a good job of doing that in Free Agency this year. We needed a serious upgrade on the D and he has done that, whether you like the Myers signing and Benn as well he has upgraded over Stecher and Hutton. Trading the pick for Miller and signing Ferland gives this team a bit more bite up front which it has sorely been lacking since Torres and Lapierre left. There are many was to build a team. If you look at the way Pat Quinn did it he mostly built through trades. His drafting and development were not as good as JB's He traded Patrik Sundstrom to get McLean and Greg Adams. Starting from the goal out he had his goal tender. He traded to get Ronning, Dirk and Momesso. Skilled center, tough D man and tough winger Of course he drafted Linden His leader and Captain. and Bure but that was due to some inside information. Craig Janney was traded to get Jeff Brown Bret Hedican and Nathan Lafayette again there are different ways to get to the same goal. I like the core players we have now. EP Brock, Bo, Quinn Hughes and the prospects coming in Podkolzin, Woo, Lind, Madden and maybe Hoglander although I am not as high on him as some here The role players we have will make this team successful in the playoffs, Ferland, Miller, even Jake might be a playoff performer. Its going to be fun this year to see if they can make it and do some damage depending on which teams we match up against. Cant wait for October
  10. Ok lets comment on those , despite Tkachucks success we know the family is not a big Canucks booster and who knows what the kid said at the interviews. so no loss there if he let JB know he didn't want to play for the team. Sergachev was there at 9 so ok . Juolevi might still pan out as good or better. No head buried in the sand, just see a glass half full opposed to your Half empty. Ill take a morning shot for dumb replies.
  11. We didnt have a very good record against San Jose or Vegas last season. We have improved greatly and should give them both a better run for their money. We may not have the same depth as Vegas but we should be more competitive against them head on. San Jose is not the team they were last year even with Thornton back, Calgary just something about that team does not smell of success, their goal tending is suspect again, I still see the Canucks being in the games with them as they were last year. I think the teams we have to beat on a regular basis to make the playoffs are in California, Have a winning record against the Kings Ducks and Sharks and we should move up in the standings. We have given up too many points the last two years to those teams.
  12. I'm with the Jake crowd, i dont see the Unsung in a lot of the other players. Stecher is a candidate but i dont see him with the same minutes as last year My other thought is Roussell who just gives it his all every night.
  13. I think we should start drinking every time KOS posts this, we will be hammered by the morning. No point just look at the record the last four years, the rebuilding team didnt make the playoffs while they re built. Ok Im downing some fireball right now.
  14. there were 8 teams we failed to take a [point off of last year.Just a loser OT point against them makes up more than Nine points we would have needed to make the playoffs. Its not just added goals to expect this season its the added defense to prevent them. Last season when Edler and Tanev went down we had Stecher and Hutton as our top 2. This year we have Myers and Benn and I see that as a huge upgrade over the previous two. Add in Hughes for a full year and we may have a much improved goals against this season if Marky can just play at a decent level. Goal for on the power play should be up as Miller adds passing ability and another look for either the first PP or better yet the second. We also have a D man that can shoot the puck on the first unit as well in Myers. Edler hasnt exactly been productive there the last three seasons. If Myers can score 5-8 goals on the power play with his shot its a huge improvement over Edlers 1 on the power play. Theres a lot of question marks this coming season that could answered very quickly once the games start for real. I like the odds that they will pick up a few goals for and a few against and that could translate into those 9 points we need or maybe even a few more.
  15. I dont disagree here its what you do with the team and the players that you have to sign after you make the JT signing. Whose minutes does he take and what player becomes expendable if you use that cap space.
  16. I didnt say they were comparables, but the market is waiting for Marner to set the ceiling before the other RFA's sign. Boeser may not get what Marner gets but it will set the the market for what the others can ask for
  17. You do realize there are many factors in play here. He has a gravely ill father, the market is waiting for Marner to set the market and blaming Jim Benning for that has to be the most ridiculous thing i have heard on CDC this summer. They are clearly giving him respectful space while he deals with what is an awful event in all of our lives , when we lose a parent. Stop trolling and have some respect
  18. Above statements are all true and Benning has done a good job by drafting core pieces and trying to assemble support pieces around them. What we can agree on is this team should be better than last year and injuries aside should challenge for a playoff spot at least.
  19. I see Myers as being a top 4 D I see Myers and Benn as an Upgrade on Stecher and Hutton I see Ferland and Miller as an upgrade over Goldobin and Leivo I appreciate other opinions but as IRR said you are just looking to argue. I pass. You offer nothing other than frustration for everyone.
  20. I am not a huge fan of his either and I see him as a declining player with little value left to our team but he may be what another team need as either a depth player or a secondary scorer where they have the ice time to get the most out of him. For us we have better options now. It doesnt make him a bad guy but i do question his efforts on some nights. Why does every picture of Loui look like he just had a hit of some BC bud?
  21. I will defend everyone's right to have a different opinion , mine isn't always the same as others, but i listen to other arguments and try to see their point of view. Its not a debate but a discussion. If you are getting a lot of people say your opinion is flawed sometimes its a good thing to look in the mirror and see if they have a point.
  22. no it isnt any higher or lower its just more in your face with technology and the ability of the fan to be heard especially on these type of boards. I dont dislike the passion. We all want the team to do well and we all have differing opinions on what should be done but to complain a rebuilding team with no prospects left from the previous management didnt make the playoffs for four years is just silly.
