  1. This isnt new , back in the 80's stupid people would call in to Dan Russels Sports talk show and ask why the GM didnt trade Sandlak , Smyl , Gradin and Fraser to Edmonton for Gretzky. Being a sports fan or a fan of a team doesnt mean you have to have intelligence.
  2. I have lived a 49 year Canucks bubble and I can tell you there have been worse periods of time than this. Here there is hope for the year coming. At times before Pat Quinn there was no hope and a threat the team would move
  3. When all you have in the argument is to post the record of the team the last four years and you continue to use the same point you should expect similar reactions from people. It isnt ganging up its simply the masses reacting to what isnt a strong argument and really a vapid post
  4. you do realize there are two sides in the negotiations and Brock has been a little preoccupied with his father sick and all. Brock is a priority but hockey has not been his priority this past month or so
  5. The fact that you dont understand how a re build is done and that you will miss the playoffs to achieve it is what drives people here nuts. A team in a rebuild that missed the playoffs four years in a row is not indicative of how the GM performed. How long it takes him to get the team back into the playoffs with a decent team is. 4 years is not a long time. Your constant argument that they were at the bottom of the league for 4 years is moot. Detroit drafted first overall a few years in a row before they hit Yzerman. Quebec was 5 in a row at last in the league. Their GM's were not bad they just hadn't put the pieces together yet. The results are not just in the wins and losses. They are in the constant improvement of the team and the players brought in to improve. sitting back and reading the box scores each day doesnt make you an expert.
  6. Pettersson - 32, I see him around last years totals other teams will take away some of his looks Boeser - 30, just get him signed and he will be around where he should have been the last two years Miller -25, its not the goals I expect him to contribute but he may surprise on the PP with his slick passing. Ferland - 20, depends on where he plays in the line up. this is maxed out if he stays with Boeser and Petey Horvat - 35, every year he gets better and better. If Sutter or Beagle stay healthy he should be able to play more offensive minutes and less defensive. Pearson - 12, I'd take this from him if he can score double digits and plays well with Bo we have a second line that demands attention. Baerstchi 12, if he can stay healthy he might surpass this total but i"m not betting on that to happen unfortunately Sutter - 7, stay healthy for the bulk of the season. goal scoring is a bonus. Virtanen - 12-15, depending on where he plays and with who Beagle - 5, he wont get the ice time to get more goals Leivo - 8 depending on where he plays in the line up Motte - 3 all against one team. Roussel - 5, 2 short handed goals Goldy - 0 he wont be on the team. Eriksson - 6 before he gets moved or demoted Gaudette 6 as the first injury call up he will get a handful Edler - 5, mostly on the rush as his Power play time is reduced this season. Myers - 12 mostly on the power play Hughes - 4, more assists than goals Stecher - 5 anything over this is gravy. I doubt he sees the minutes he got last season. Benn - 1 Tanev - 1 OJ - 2 Thats 251 and thats a max projection obviously. If they can get an improvement of 20 goals total over last year with some decent improvement on the D and in goal that translates into more points. Is it enough to get into the playoffs? that remains to be seen, but every year at least one team really surprises(Vegas, St Louis) and one or more teams free fall, I'm looking at San Jose, and possible Calgary(their goal tending just is suspect) I posted on a thread a while back the teams we didnt take a point off of last season. there was like 7 or 8 of them. Just an OT point from all of those teams would get us very close to the playoff mark. As much as some dont like the money paid to Myers, he and Benn are a huge upgrade at D especially when not if Edler and Tanev get hurt. They may not be Norris trophy candidates but they are an upgrade on Stecher and Hutton. Marky and Demko should benefit from playing behind a real NHL defense this season as well.
  7. Thats the point fully. The drafted players come along to replace the contracts of some of the players that will be gone. Sutter Tanev Edler and Eriksson will turn it over to Gaudette, Hughes, Woo, Juolevi and as long as the current group grows adding the likes of Podkolzin to what looks like a decent top 6, like i said it could get special in a hurry. It might take another trade, one that some will cry about again to get to the finals and maybe win it this time but the core pieces are starting to come together.
  8. Great to see JB get this extension. Consistency is very important in building a winning team. Drafting has been his strength and he has his weaknesses like many others. Gillis gets way too much credit by some here for the team that went to the finals in 11. That was mostly built by Burke and Nonis. Brian Burke gets a lot of the Credit for Anaheim's cup but really the Murray brothers built that team. Burke added Pronger but that was a no brainer trade at the time. Its always essential to ad pieces to compliment what you have drafted. Yes giving up the first round pic for Miller could hurt but it will hurt a lot less if JT puts up 30 goals or becomes a catalyst for the power play with his passing skill. Things are starting to look a lot better as we look at the prospects Jim has acquired and next season we shed a lot of cap space and if the players we have in the system make a jump this could get special in a hurry. He just needs to get Brocks signature on a contract and he has had an excellent summer. Good job Jim
  9. I am fine with him staying as long as that doesn't block JB from signing Boeser. We need cap space, Loui isnt happy here as to how he is being used, its a no-brainer to not want him around our younger players if he is unhappy. I'm not whipping him, he isnt the first signing or trade the Canucks have made that didnt work out. He hasnt lived up to his contract but if he was signed to a three million dollar contract no one would be complaining about the little things he does. As for Louis comments the one guy who has defended him through out his struggles has been Travis Green who complimented him on doing all the little things right. Loui chose to bite the hand of the one guy who has looked after him. I dont really care about what he said i just think he picked the wrong person to throw under the bus. Its not up to me to justify whether he should be back. Sometimes you have to live with the consequences of signing a player. Utica may be the best solution. it might motivate Loui to work harder or accept a trade to an NHL team he might not have otherwise.
  10. When you have watched all of the seasons of the team there are moments and players you forget about until someone else brings them up. Quinn going after Orr. Mike Peca annihilating Selanne at center ice. Gino fighting the blues all by himself. Suitcase Smith skating the puck to center ice as a goalie Patrick Sundstroms 7 points against the penguins Harold Snepts goal against the Canadiens and the place went nuts. Babychs goal in 94 to get the Canuck momentum back in game 5 in NY Henriks goal against Dallas in 4 OT Bobby Schmautz flying down the wing with a slapshot. Jim Nills winner in OT in 82 in Chicago Beating the Canadiens in game 2 in 1975 lost 4 games to 1 but we did get the win to tie the series at 1-1, first time in the playoffs Curt Fraser vs Bob Probert Curt was in Chicago by then but still a Canuck. Coxe vs Probert is a beauty also Pavel Bures first game vs Winnipeg Beating San Jose in 2011 despite being shorthanded for half the game Kirk Mcleans stop on Reichel in game 7 in Calgary 94 Tiger Williams riding the stick at center ice after scoring Daniel Sedins goal against Calgary through the legs. Geoff Courtnalls, Trevor Lindens and Pavel Bures goals in 94 against Calgary in OT three straight games to come back from a 3-1 deficit. Gary Lupul could barely skate but man did he work hard. Burrows slaying the Dragon Greg Adams OT goals in 94, Toronto and NY Morrisons goal in OT against Calgary The Shift Roger and the towel in 82 Jovo on Deadmarsh I missed a lot here. Maybe some of these made you smile. Its been a fun 49 seasons. The 50th should be fun also.
  11. My list 1 Pat Quinn 2 Linden 3 Henrik and Daniel 4 Adams 5 Snepts 6 Mclean 7 Luongo 8 Naslund 9 Smyl 10 Burrows Honorable mentions to Kurtenbach Bure Bertuzzi Morrison Ohlund Salo Gradin Fraser
  12. Linden not even an honorable mention? Go back and watch game 7 of 94.
  13. the only curious thing about Goldobin is who will drive him to the airport.
  14. WADR to his fans, i think it is really just a matter of who will drive him to the airport. He has had his chance and now the players acquired are better than him.
  15. Injuries are always inevitable, not many teams go through 82 hard games without some to their key players. its the depth behind the injuries that determines the success of the team. For the first time in a few years we have some depth. When Bo went down a couple seasons back we were in the playoff hunt. But there wasnt enough depth on the team to carry it without him. Having Miller and Ferland as well as Petey Pearson and Leivo add forward depth we did not have two seasons ago. We dont have to have Goldobin on our team just because he is the only one who knows where the other teams net is, despite his lack of knowledge where his own net is. Last season when Tanev and Edler had their usual 20 games plus injuries we had no one to play except Stecher and Hutton and a cast of semi pro AHL players. The difference this year is simply the depth at all positions. If Edler and Tanev both go down we still have Hughes, Myers, Benn and Stecher. Those are not expected to challenge for the Norris trophy this season but that 4 would surely be better off than the likes of Hutton, Stecher, Biega, Sautner. When we have injuries this season we have players to take up the slack. Again im not planning a parade in June but I do expect an improvement in games played by our normally wounded warriors, Sutter, Tanev, Edler.... and also more points in the standings based on the better quality replacements when those injuries occur. Also the gain in size of the players JB acquired this off season makes me very happy. Its not about the punishment you deal out but more the ability to withstand the pounding the season and playoffs put forth. Here my only concern is Hughes. I hope he can figure out how to play so that he isn't run over in the corners or in front of our net. If he stays healthy it lends well to success on the PP as well as another defender to chase down some pucks. Love the depth here this season. Just move Loui for whatever bag of pucks you can get and i will call this off season a big success
  16. I agree the lack of creativity on the PP was painful to watch. I am surprised at how many good looks Petey got when the only real success last season was the one timer. Edler has been "gifted" the first line power play minutes due to the lack of a better option. This season that changes as both Hughes and Myers could be considered better options. Also when Edler coughs up the puck at the blue line he is in no way fast enough to catch most forwards. Hughes is. Myers is a very good option on the point. If we consider that the number 1 PP is Horvat, Boeser, Petterson, and either Edler and Hughes or another forward the number 2 PP could feature Miller Ferland Pearson/Leivo and Myers and Stecher. Now the point shot becomes a big deal as those forwards crashing the net looking for the inevitable rebounds would be dangerous. Either way the team has options now and that's what i like to see. especially if one unit is floundering.
  17. I dont see them removing the Captain from the first unit Power play unless it falters dramatically. The unit with Horvat Petterson Boeser will surely stay together. What Ferland Miller and possibly Pearson or Leivo bring are options to the number 2 unit. I would also have Myers on the number one unit but this is debatable as he could slide into the number 2 power play and make that a dangerous unit as well. His shot is a huge upgrade from anyone else on the D. Whether we play with 4 forwards or 3 Hughes will probably be one of the 1st unit looks. I like that depending on the team we are playing we can change it up. maybe one time its 4-1, the next its 3-2. Hughes Petterson and Boeser seem to have some chemistry especially at 3 on 3. I think the great thing about this is having two more top 6 forwards and 2 more Offensive d men brings a chance for both units to be successful. Myers and Hughes add an option away from just throwing Edler out there for the number 1 PP. That i like.
  18. I dont think Stecher gets the minutes to put up those numbers this season He hasnt shown he can do that when playing number one/two minutes in the past. I see no way Eriksson starts the year on Peteys line if the Canucks have Boeser signed. There wont be room for him and the team will need his cap room. There are also way better options now, there were not before. Goldobin if he is resigned and thats a big If will start the year in AHL. He has had his chance. i think its over with the others passing him. Sutter, Beagle will assume their third and fourth line center roles. as long as they are healthy i agree Gaudette will be in the AHL Baer will be given the chance to ply as long as he is healthy Schaller is gone or to the A Petterson and Hughes will stay right where they are unless they need to "paper" them down to save cap space. it doesnt mean they leave the team just that for moneys sake they will have to play and play well with the big club for the team to make the playoffs.
  19. another thread on this really? do we have one every two weeks or? BO is the Captain of this team. With or without the C on his chest. Even Boeser and Petterson call him Captain. what more do you people want? Petterson is and may be one of our best players. Horvat is the Captain.
  20. If Quinn Hughes only has 25 points on this team this year I will eat my hat. Seeing as Quinn will produce at a much better pace than Stecher it now comes back to what can Troy bring to the team that Myers, Edler, Benn. Hughes. Tanev cannot. He is a 5-6-7 d man on this team. He doesnt do enough to make over 4 million per. Tryamkin and Woo and Juloevi may have some effect on whether Troy is in a Canuck uniform past draft next season. No new toy syndrome, new depth yes. Made Hutton expendable. May make Stecher expendable also.
  21. Sutter has more value because as a top face off guy when healthy he allows Bo to play offense and be the second line center this team needs. When Sutter is injured Bo has to take a ll the defensive face offs and that weakens our offense.Eriksson although he does all the little things well is just not up to his contract worth. If he was signed at 3 million no one would be compaining about what he does.
  22. to completely ignore his shortcomings is rose colored homer glasses. Stecher has had the benefit of being ok on a team that has had awful defense. He struggle to clear the crease against bigger players, does not contribute offensively like he needs to to stay in the NHL.I like Stecher and his attitude and would love to see him have success but he has to bring a bigger contribution or he will be supplanted by Quin Hughes as the smaller offensive defenseman on the team, The reason Benning went out and got Myers Benn and Fantenberg is due to the fact Stecher and Hutton were not the answer.
  23. Ferland Pete Boeser Pearson Bo Miller Baertschi Sutter Virtanen Leivo Beagle Motte Gaudette IR Roussel Goldobin=gone Work in progress... Edler Myers Hughes Tanev Benn Stech Juolevi, Fantenberg, Biega Marks Demko
  24. I think Petey is our best player, but i voted for Bo and I will try to explain why. Petey went down with a couple of key injuries last season.not that it his fault but Bo played all 82 games, the only Canuck to do that last season. Petey puts up a lot of points and should get even better this season, Bo had 5 less points despite having to take every defensive draw last season. Petey is a future Rocket Richard trophy winner maybe even a Hart. Bo is a future Conn Smythe winner. Bo takes every defensive face off, was one off the lead in goals scored and was 5 points behind Petterson for team lead in scoring. Actually the most important players this season are Sutter and Beagle. We need them to stay healthy so Bo can play more offense. I love what Petterson brings to the team but Bo is the most important player on the team.
