  1. your argument on the Canucks having lots of cash is the crux of the issue and the part you don't seem to understand. The defense is not the only place we might like to spend that money. Getting a UFA D man is certainly a priority. Spending anything extra on Edler at 33 is not a smart move. Why do we just have to offer 1 player as a UFA, why cant we have 2 or even 3. Getting a D man to replace an aging Edler would be great. Why don't we try to get 2 D men, or a D man and a winger. I would love to see us land Myers and Lee. Why not Myers and another middling D man to get us some depth so Biega doesn't have to play unless we get more injuries? its not about whether Edler will affect the cap. He hasnt performed well two of the last three years and is likely to decline. Like i said with Henrik and Daniel there comes a time when its time to move on. This is the time.
  2. 94 was a great run and the better team did not win as the older Rangers got a break from the league by moving the scheduled Game 7 back one more day. If it had been played on the Monday night as scheduled the tired Rangers would not have been able to keep up . The reason the Canucks were able to come back from a 3-1 deficit was the fact they were younger and every game we got stronger and they grew more weary. Having the extra game to rest they had just enough in the tank to take game 7
  3. agree on this they made the change so the Rangers old players could rest up for game 7 and that was and still is giving an advantage to an older team. That changed the outcome
  4. that team had a decent power play and a goaltender that played lights out, that's what got them past LA and Chicago. Brodeur held the fort long enough for their offense to score what was needed to win. Remember they had quite a few games where they scored more than 4 goals in that run.
  5. No No No take that money and spend it on anyone else that can play 80 games a year and doesn't float in a non contract year/. That is the smart move
  6. At 22 Boeser has a lot more life left in him than Edler. and a few more contracts as well. if Boeser scores on the power play in game 1 of the season he will already have more than Edler at the end of the year. Just like with Henrik and Daniel the time has come to move on from Edler. Thank you for your service but your demands do not meet our needs.
  7. hes not coming anyways, why would he come to a bottom feeder team when he wants to win a cup now? and really he isnt sitting around reading CDC to find out if the fans would like him to come or not. The stupid comment seems to be needed somewhere else
  8. Sundstrom was traded to Jersey for Kirk Mclean, Greg Adams and Leif Rohlin so the optimism was just delayed.
  9. I agree with you this is what JB will do and probably what he should continue to do. All of those saying lets load up on picks seem to not understand 2 things 1, the only players likely to fetch a first round pick from our team are as follows, Petterson, Boeser, Horvat,Hughes and possibly Markstrom or Demko. Why would we trade a player of this value to roll the dice on a pick that may either develop into a player of like value or possibly lesser value. A roll of the dice. we would like to build around these players. Your team has had the worst record the last three years. you are not their first call when looking for good players to pick up. 2, what team in their right mind is going to give up a first round pick for anything on the leftover table. Tanev is not going to fetch a first round pick. Sutter is not going to fetch a first round pick. Virtanen as much as he was a first rounder himself has not lived up to that development and is unlikely to fetch a first round pick. So where are these extra first rounders supposedly going to come from? Eriksson? Beagle? Pearson? Motte? Goldobin? not likely and package what you want together unless one of the previously mentioned players is involved we are not picking up anyone's first rounder. Big Hint, other teams are aware its a deep draft as well and want to keep their picks and possibly add ours as well.
  10. I watched every game of that run in 82 as a teen, some thoughts: Canucks Flames was a battle that was closer than the series showed games were 5-3, 2-1,3-1 and the highlight was Tigers goal in OT in game 2 and his celebrations was epic. Canucks Kings was a surprise as no one expected the Oilers to lose to the Kings and especially with the Oilers blowing a 5 goal lead in game three and the Kings winning in OT. One thing about both Edmonton and LA in that series both teams could score. They combined for 18 goals in the first game. Dionne and Simmer were awesome Canucks Blackhawks, maybe the start of the hatred. Jim Nills 2OT winner. Gradin Fraser and Smyl had a good series and Brodeur was amazing. The series is remembered for Roger holding up the towel in surrender and the city went wild for it. I remember watching the game thinking we sure are getting a lot of penalties. I dont know if it was ref bias but it was almost as lopsided as the series in 2011 against the Sharks. The city went absolutely nuts. Canucks Islanders. We didnt expect us to win the series but we deserved better than a sweep. In Game 1 we had the better of the play against NY and scored toe to toe with them. It was 4-4 going to the third and the Canucks took the lead for a couple minutes. OT we had a couple good chances as I recall but couldn't bury the puck. Snepts played his heart out all playoffs and really got unlucky. If he could have fired it up the boards we would have gone to the second OT. Might have still lost but it would not have crushed Harold so much. He wasn't the same in the series after that. There was a lot of fighting in that game also. We stood up to them well in Game 1. We really were out classed but game 2 was tough after the game 1 loss . If we had won game 1 it would have been a different series. After we came home we couldn't score on home ice. The Isles started to take over defensively. The 3rd game was not as entertaining as the first 2 and it was a 2-0 game until an empty netter. Game 4 we took a couple bad penalties and we couldn't stop their power play. It was heart wrenching to see it end but the team gave the fans more than we could have expected. Great run by the boys. King Richard was awesome all playoffs. Harold and the D corps was tough as nails and played well. Gradin, Smyl Fraser and Boldirev Rota were great through out the playoffs. They had a good power play also but no where near what the Islanders possessed. Great memories.
  11. Fake news no story here , lets chat when this is done.
  12. I am not touting him as the next Bobby Orr , he would add to a rag tag group that does need a upgrade. I am not in favor of adding Karlsson at this time. You dont have to convince me that Tryamkin may not be ready for the NHL again. I hear Zaitsev is available in Toronto, as a RHD he might be a better option if JB can swing a trade.
  13. It puts the rebuild on hold because impatient fans want us to try to buy our way into the playoffs rather than wait for the team to be built. It isnt a guarantee of success and we dont have the other parts to challenge for a cup its a foolish way to try to speed up a rebuild. Edmonton tried it by signing Lucic Maroon, and making an awful trade for Larsson giving up a league MVP. They werent ready for that kind of move yet and neither are we.
  14. They will make moves to get cap space and we should try to exploit it. Maybe we take on Callahan if they give us one of their young Russian D men
  15. I disagree that Karlsson pushes us over the hump in contending for a cup. Making the playoffs is everyone's goal but unless we are going to win it all adding Karlsson just puts the rebuild on hold ala Edmonton. Thankfully he is headed to Tampa so we wont have to argue on it.
  16. again its not a completely different game... it is different, but not by much especially once the playoffs start. Ronning was exceptional in more ways than scoring. He was a great shutdown center on Gilmour in 94. His skating was much better than most his size and he wasnt hooked and tackled much because he was more than shifty. I watched him in Junior and once he became a Canuck... a lot of games. NHL goalies are a lot better than Junior goalies. and from what I have seen and heard he (Caulfield) isnt fast by any means. He will get picked in the top 25. I just hope it isn't at 10 can you imagine what Bure could have done with today's rules?
  17. He also did it on a team that could compensate with size around him. and Ronning was a better than average player,Junior scoring doesn't always translate into scoring in the NHL no matter what size you are however it isnt an advantage to be 5'7
  18. again Cliff Ronning put up 197 points in Junior and never exceeded 29 goals in any year. and he was an exceptional skater.
  19. we should re sign him he plays well with Hughes and has a bit of bite to him. But we need more skill with size on the back end
  20. Bolded is where we disagree. We already have that type of player in Hughes. Karlsson does nothing to help us defend our end. His Scoring is a plus his defending is a minus. He isnt worth the 11 Million we would have to fork out to get him. We dont become stanley cup contenders with him and making the playoffs when we are not ready only puts our rebuild in jeopardy. Drafting the younger D men and developing into playoff regulars before we start trying to add pieces like a Karlsson is what we have done before to no success. That's been the conversation earlier. We need to take on players that are closer to the start of their career rather than the end of it because we will compete in three to five years not this coming season.Karlsson or not
  21. Bolded would be taken out of context. If you were only focused in on what i said about Bieksa than yes we would need more edge than size. My Point about everyone else in that thread was that size with skill outperforms skill without size. The D that went to the Cup Finals in 94 and 2011 were bigger, meaner and stronger than we are icing now and as much as the game has changed its still an advantage. Its about survival in the playoffs. Again my point is that a balance to the smaller players is still needed.we cannot play Stecher Hughes, Hutton and Biega against the big western forwards and expect to be successful. I agree we need top 6 forwards and top 4 D men still. Where we pick which would depend on who is left when we pick, IMHO
  22. Regardless which Defenseman would you take over him except maybe Hughes. Stecher? Hutton? Pouliot? Biega? All similiar size but dont play anywhere as big as Bieksa did.
  23. On that team with the size they had Bieksa not only played bigger than he was he was tough as nails. I dont see the same attitude from a Hutton, Stecher, Hughes, Pouliot Edler, Tanev. That edge is missing so we definitely need to bulk up on D.
  24. Ok here we go Horvat leads the team in scoring , 30 goals and 40 assists- 70 points missed 70 points but had to play way more D than expected with both Sutter and Beagle hurt. Make him the Captain Boeser scores 35 but doesnt have the assists total to match Horvat. 25 assists, 60 points scored 26 goals and 56 points pretty close to 60 Petterson struggles at center, provides some offense but not what some people think he will get, 25 goals, 30 assists=55 points scored 28 out performed what i hoped for. Leipsic, Virtanen, Sutter Eriksson, all over achieve in points as the attention is on the aforementioned players.Leipsic traded, Virtanen right, Sutter hurt and eriksson well ok hes done Goldobin is waived by Christmas as he still cant score or defend. Still don't understand why this guy is still on the team Gaudette lights up the AHL and is brought up by Christmas as the team struggles to score he was brought up but it was due to injuries. Half right The power play gets more chances than last year but doesn't have the same success, no scoring from the D hurts the team again. I'm not sure on the PP chances but no scoring from the D is killing us. 30 games in Green realizes the best way to use the D is to have Edler and Gudbranson together instead of trying to spread them through the lineup Ok I blew this one Tanev and Hutton become a good pairing. Stecher and Hutton were alright at times Biega and Juolevi end up in Vancouver by Christmas as the usual injury bug hits the D hard. Biega played 41 games Markstrom plays well. keeping the Canucks in a lot of games but Nillsson cannot stop a beach ball again. I am going to give my self this one Marky was great Quote Canucks finish 37-35-10 for 84 points but still are not a wild card team. we draft 12th.This is pretty close. 81 points 5th in division and still not a wild card team
