Hopefully I got high hopes and expectations for the kid. Like his style and tenacity

I like his style of play to, he is a north/south guy with speed and size, likes to hit and can put the puck in the net. What is there not to like about Jake's game?

Maybe what JB saw from McCann last season made him believe McCann was expendable.  I really like Gaunce.  Baer I need to see him play in the hard areas, while staying healthy.

I think that there is more to Gaunce's game, I think he may very well take Burr's spot, Baertchi is actually quite tough, he likes to play in middle more than on the boards, it is easier to score from the middle of the ice than on the boards.

Ran into Jake couple times recently , looking a little chunky . A bit concerning if he doesn't come into training camp ready to go and in shape

Jake will be fine, in two years we will have the power forward everyone is seeking, this year will be a bit better for him, possibly 20-25pts. He is worth the wait.

    Super excited to see Loui!

My dream for this year is, the Sedins plus Luoi don't do the Kenmore spin cylcle, I hope that they play more in front of the net and get more shots. The frustrating thing about the Sedins is how talented they really are, especially Hank, I wish he would shot more when he has the opportunity instead of passing the puck away when he has the goalie flat on his back, it just blows my mind when he does that.

i think that when olie's career is over, we'll be looking at him the same way we look at salo and ohlund now...

That would be awesome, another Salo bomb from the point is just what we need for our struggling PP.

Hopefully Sutter can stay healthy for the full 82 next season. Feel like he is capable of putting up 40 points, so I wanna see him go out and do it.

I agree, but i think he could do anywhere between 40-60pts. He was going at a pretty good clip last year until he was injured. If he was healthy all season last year he would have put up about 55pts. If WD were to put Virtanen and Granlund with Sutter, this might be a sweet line.

I think its best he gets sent back next year, following year is AHL tune up, then phase him into the NHL by the age of 20. fair right?

Cause right now, he probably does have NHL sense, and NHL decision making, and NHL calibre, but we have to be careful too, although his playing calibre might be NHL ready, his body might not be ready yet.  All it takes is one hit, he's injured out for 6 weeks, and another injury and may start piling not.  Not to mention the physical grind of a NHL schedule, can really wear out a NHL defender espeically if he's not "physically" ready.  Yes he's ready, his body also needs to build up.  I say since he's a defencemen, they take hits alot, takes  a "TON" of hits, send back to the developement, let him eat up 23-24 minutes of ice time in London, let him then learn the physical game in the AHL at around 18-20 minutes of ice time then phase him to top line minutes towards the final 20 games.

the following season start him up at around 16 minutes of ice time then go from there.

The objective of the 2 year window is too "physically" prepare him for the NHL.

Agreed, I think that we could take a page out of Detroit's book as far as player development goes. We need to take our time with guys like Oli, because who knows, the extra two years of development could turn him into the next Doughty, or Kieth, wouldn't that be awesome!! Detroit has a knack for drafting average young players, and three to four years later they are superstars.

  9. Granlund looked pretty good, he just needs a real chance to prove his worth. He is quick and shifty, I think he could be one of those sleeper players that goes from zero to hero, he has the smarts and skill and the right attitude, here is hoping.

Juolevi is actually 6'3". Should top out at about 200lbs when he fills out.

Size is definitely not an issue for him, even though that is not part of his game. His smarts and skating will allow him to move the puck before guys are even on him.

I have looked at 3 different scouting reports on Oli, they all have different hights and weights, lol. So I just took a ballpark average, those reports do confirm your claim about smarts, skating, and puck movement. Like i said I can't wait to see him in action in camp, and who knows maybe preseason, i really hope that he is every bit as good as you say, we really need that on the blue line:)

He won a Memorial cup along with a world Junior and was a huge piece on both teams. The kid is a winner. I would hardly classify him as a "diamond in the rough". You can see what your getting from him when you watch him play. No smoke and mirrors trust me. He's exactly the player we need going forward, and finally a we have a blue chip D-prospect.

I really hope so, by all accounts (including yours) Oli sounds like the real deal, all the guys I mentioned are to and they have size, Oli is 6'2" but only 183lbs vs. Gauthier 6'3" 220lbs on RW he definitely is what we need to. Or Chychurin at 6'3" 210lbs on D. Having said that I am excited to see what Oli can do, especialy if he is everything he is being hyped up to be.

Is this ok? I'm so torn. I think I like this. But I'm confused on so many levels right now.

Edit: ok, now that it's settled in I'm stoked. Loosing Dubois was really hard, but this kids the real deal. Benning managed to completely turn around our back end, and D wins cups.

I agree, with what JB is looking for in a trade, Tachuk, Gauthier, and Brown were available. Not to mention a few big D men that will be forces to be reconed with for years to come (Chychurin, Hauf, among others) to be honest i have never herd of our first rounder. I guess it is possible that he is one of those "diamonds in the rough", man i hope so. We will see come training camp and preseason.

  14. Virtanen will be much better this year, not that he was terrible last year, the thjng to remember is that he is just a kid who is not Gretzke, or Lemeux, or McDavid, most young guys like Virtanen take a few years to gain the experience, so i am not to sure why after one season a 19 year old kid is getting tossed under the bus, Jake is big, fast, and skilled, the best is yet to come. So lets be patient and watchhim prove all the nay sayers wrong.
