      Elias Pettersson

He was probably asking for more than people wanted to pay so teams like the Canucks went for the cheaper options.  He probably wants a 4x4 and he's only played one year in the NHL and is already 29 so some teams may have stayed away from him.  We might have overrated him as well.  Poolman may not be as imposing a force as Hakanpaa but based on his solid play in the playoffs playing top 4 minutes Shaw and Benning probably felt he was a better option for what they want and a safer bet.

    3. Podz19

      Maybe he's not that good

Negative spin is on hold because they can’t keep up with Benning moves lol

He definitely did well today, these are the deals he should've been doing all along but I suspect there is massive interference from ownership sadly.  Even if poolman is a bust it shouldn't handicap the team, taking on OEL though.... yikes.  What got him to this point deserves criticism but he somehow found a way out that hole and learned from last offseason.  Today was definitely a good day for the team.

  3. Come on Petey, its nearly dinner time in Sweden. Sign that contract and go out to a nice restaurant.

    1. -DLC-

      Come on "home" Petey.

I can't wait to see what Petey's deal is.

    3. Devron44

I’m really hoping it’s an 8 year deal. Would be fricken huge for us in 4 or 5 years

Cheaper backup, two FA RD's, and a 4th line center. Exciting times.

    4. Grape

@Jimmy McGill We can buy out his last two years pretty easily.

Just hoping he can regain a step in his game in the first four years.

  8. So all Seattle came away with extra out of the ED was one 2022 4th? wow.

So hard not to appreciate what Vegas did, looking at Seattle.

But realistically, it will be hard not to have a few “stars” develop out of who they have chosen given the amount of ice time and top line minutes they will receive in Seattle, one would think.

    3. Ghostsof1915

GM's learned from the mistakes of getting burned by Vegas.

    4. Iron Fist

      Iron Fist

The last expansion team hooked Seattle up after being nudged by the nhl to make Vegas work.   Seattle didn't get that luxury, Phoenix took everything this time.   And both Phoenix and Seattle are probably going for Bedard

  9. So the Oilers lost Larsson, Caleb Jones and a 3rd to keep Duncan Keith.

Benning honestly did well here in this expansion draft. I'm curious what Seattle picks from NYI because NYI absolutely was a loser with that Andrew Ladd cap dump trade LOL.

      Edit: NYI lost Eberle.

LOLOLOL. What an IDIOT Lou is. Protected Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin instead of Eberle.

    3. Jimmy McGill

      Jimmy McGill

I'd say Holland pooped the bed the worst. Losing Eberle for nothing was just bad.

Bergie the Clown tried hard too but Seattle saved him from himself.

    1. Alflives

      Schmidt for Risto.

      Heard it here first.  :frantic:

    2. NUCKER67

Jim's playing it cool, like he has nothing to do. There haven't been any changes yet, and my guess is because he's waiting for the expansion draft, then he'll do the buyouts, then the trades and signings, etc. As for what taking Pettersson's contract so long? tic toc Jim, you know how the clock hates you.

    3. Jimmy McGill

      Jimmy McGill

very likely Nucker. What might change this is another GM dropping something in our lap.

A $100 million playoff roster and they need a 6 on 4 to score their only goal against the Islanders.  I wonder what they will do next year?  Any more players they can trade for that are on LTIR?

    3. Dazzle

I think the hockey gods will take action.

  15. Should we look at bringing back Fantenberg for next year? We need solid, cheap, players for one more year. Plus there would be a familiar face for Podkolzin.

I was surprised nobody picked him up tbh, he was solid in his role

    3. Teemu Selänne

      Teemu Selänne

i thought Fanta played really well, but I kind of figure a combination of Juolevi, Edler & Bowey will be the bottom 3 D. If anyone gets moved though, he could be a solid addition.

    4. #Canucks

Fantenberg is IMO one of the best 6/7 defenseman in the league. Cheap/Reliable. I would be more than okay with bringing him back.

    3. Nuxfanabroad

In fairness to this guy, he got taken out by a dirty Tkachunky play in the Edm bubble. But he's in danger of entering that irrational, Naz Kadri, flailing-gomer-mode.

So which assistant would be getting the axe in this scenario? Can Muller run a Powerplay? Can he coach Defenseman?

    3. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Willing to bet he can do a better job than both the clowns currently sabotaging the team with their incompetence but he has experience running a powerplay.  I would hope that we find another actual coach in order to replace Baumer as well; he is at risk of causing permanent damage to our young D group with his coaching.

    4. Petey_BOI

kirk muller would be a great head coach, just saying .

What doesn't get discusssed enough has been just how solid the Canucks goaltending has been since even the Cloutier years (he only tended to 'melt-down' in the postseason).  No matter who was the GM, our goalie coaches have been generally consistantly (good).

Even goalie prospects like Eddie Lack who had a short-lived NHL career, has some bright moments (and his ended early because of injuries.

    3. Jimmy McGill

      Jimmy McGill

... and Demko pulls ahead some more last night

I'm petty, I want to see Calgary melt down.

    4. drummer4now

What also doesn't get discussed NewbieCanucksFan is the mismanagement of these solid goaltenders over the years... From Cloutier to Markstrom.

  21. Is Claude still technically in the bubble?

  22. On the + side, Calgary possibly missing the playoffs is hilarious

    1. kanucks25

Gotta imagine that's it for Treliving if so.

And wouldn't be surprised if at least one of Monahan or Gaudreau is traded.

    2. Jimmy McGill

      Jimmy McGill

I could see Jonny being moved for sure. Not sure how that fixes the motivation issues there, I guess it depends who they bring in.

    3. Coconuts

It's funny, because most of their top guys should be in their prime (with the exception of Gio)

And we complain about mediocrity here, at least we've gotten some higher picks out of missing the playoffs

its kind of a scary idea, actually, because there would be no way for you to really know if everything really is predetermined. It would break down pretty quickly if you tried to use it as an excuse for cheating on your girlfriend.
