  1. Del Zotto is #3 in hits for all D in the NHL this year. Edler is #23 oa I'm not sure which stat surprises me more.

Among all NHL defensemen with at least 22 games played in hits-per-game:

      Biega - 3.0 - 7th

      Del Zotto - 2.9 - 10th

      Gudbranson 2.5 - 19th

      Edler - 2.3 - 29th

Who said we don't have a physical team?

    3. Down by the River

      Down by the River

A lot easier to throw hits when you don't have the puck...

But MDZ has been a solid pickup for the Canucks this season. He's been asked to play much more of a defensive role than he is used to.

    4. Kurt Nirvanagut

Figured Edler would've shattered into a million pieces of sugar glass by now.

      Don’t forget Edler’s broken stick.

  5. Our local media is too hard on the team. And they blame "the fans" but they pick the stories. I'm tired of the fan blame that goes on when its groups like 1040 that are generating all the attention on the the negativity.

it gets out of proportion when the media takes say the 10% of really negative feelings and projects that to be the entire 'fan base'. thats what bugs me.

    3. PhillipBlunt

      PhillipBlunt

Not only are the local media (1040 especially) negative and self-serving, but they are gutless for deflecting blame onto the fans. Time for people to straight up ignore 1040, the Provies, anything Ed Willes writes, and Jeff Patterson in general. In the same breath, people should see Freidman for the same type of clown as the rest of these fools.

picks or maybe packaged with Hutty? dunno. I'm not overjoyed with today but its not a disaster either. Its more of the wait and see variety.

    3. Alflives

      Alflives

I see today as a sideways move.  We got two guys, who are likely better than Baer and Goldy, but who aren't really going to be part of our rebuilt team.  They are just (IMHAO) slightly better placeholders.

    4. JM_

      JM_

@Alflives I'm pretty happy to get Leipsic actually, I wonder if he could be our next Burr? or Dane Fox I suppose. We'll find out soon enough.

Jim brought a knife to a gun fight. He doesn't have a lot to work with this year, if he is able to move Vanek I'll be surprised, but I won't be if the noon press conference tomorrow is him telling us that he didn't get a single real offer.

    3. Coconuts

      Coconuts

I won't be surprised either, seems like there are more teams looking to move pieces this year and more teams seem to feel like they're out of it at this point in the season. We've got some moveable pieces but there are better pieces available.

    4. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Vanek's the kind of guy that gets moved in the last hour as a consolation prize for a team that missed out on their real target.  The rest of our guys either have little to no trade value, or have enough term that we can move them at another point if the return is right.

Glad Benning got his extension before the deadline so he doesn't feel pressured into making a bad trade.

  8. Is there any deal we can make for Karlsson that doesn't drain our top 6 potential prospect pool entirely?

    2. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

There's probably a good reason people keep linking Karlsson to Tampa Bay. They're the team in the league that is most equipped to get Karlsson without ruining their prospect pool or making their current team less competitive.

    3. Jägermeister

      Jägermeister

There is literally nothing that we could reasonably offer.

Scuz Affair? My goodness, really? Sure it wasn't a pristine club full of lights and TVs, but when you can rub shoulders with Trent Reznor, Chris Cornell, and the like in the 90s without pretense and enjoy some drinks and combustibles, it's legendary, Kneel.

    3. Hairy Kneel

      Hairy Kneel

      PhillipBlunt

Yeah. The last time I was there they played Tool, NIN, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, Depeche Mode, the Cure, New Order, and many more songs well into the night.

I defy a club in Vancouver's generic downtown core to boast that kind of breadth of music now.

Unlike the U.S., where we keep score of everything all the time, Norway puts kids in sports but doesn’t let them keep score until age 13. The idea is to make sports part of their social development so that the motivation to stay involved is to have fun with their friends, not winning.

At the deadline though you often get higher value then one expects. Personally Im hoping for a straight across trade of Hutton and Domi

    3. Green Building

      Green Building

Yeah, that depends on the market. This one is shaping up to favour buyers more than sellers, but that trade would be intriguing if TG or TC felt we already had a replacement for Hutton in waiting.

    4. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Holm and Pouliot now, Juolevi next season.

Say you trade Hutton this deadline and Pouliot or Holm excel with more minutes then you know your set at LD that offseason, don't need to sign anyone and can start Juolevi in AHL. If you don't trade Hutton you may not know what you have in Pouliot and Holm and could lose one of them.

I agree though that you need to get good value. I think my minimum value for Hutton is a second round pick

if the the sedins come back which is their right and have earned it, the 'C'  has to be handed to Bo at season's end, it's a lead follow or get out of the way situation, another season of floundering leadership isn't what's needed.

    3. JM_

      JM_

If SJS can let go of Marleau on happy terms surely we can make a switch here too. But I don't see Linden allowing the stripping the C from Hank given how that happened to him. I like Linden but wonder sometimes if he can separate his feelings of loyalty from his former team mates and make the cold, logical decisions you have to make as a manager sometimes for the good of a business overall.

    4. chon derry

      chon derry

@Jimmy McGill its only theory ,but I think TL's loyalty combined with JB's desire to finish the rebuild ,retool whatev  has caused a rift in their their  business relationship ,hence the wait and see approach to jb's contract and how that relates to the wait and see approach  that there is with the sedins? , just a theory..

Guy should have won the Masterton for exposing the NHL refs for the criminals they are.  Unfortunately the NHL decided to shoot the messenger instead of forcing the referees to act like professionals.  Burrows got one criminal fired but there needs to be a cultural change in order to make the league respectable.

      Green Building

Thanks for Dahlen, Ottawa. The drop-off in Burr's play the last few years has been astounding. I wouldn't be surprised if he retired at the end of the season, but who knows. I'll always remember him as being the player he was here, but it's tough to watch him as the player he is now.

I'd be thrilled, though I think it would be over the top to expect him to ever reach Bert's level. There are very few players who have played the power forward role as well as Bertuzzi. If he's half the player Bertuzzi was, I'll be thrilled.

If they don't extend JB, as a fan of 35+ years I am done with this team until Aquaman sells it. He was brought into a mess, to rebuild a mess, had no prospect pool and was handcuffed the first few years by having to try and make the playoffs and rebuild, you can't and re builds take time. He's in year 3 of the real changes, everyone can see he's done a magnificient job drafting and re-stocking, and his bad moves have not handcuffed the team in any manner. He has a built a pipeline the strongest I have ever seen (at least in potential) in all my years as a fan, and should get the opportunity to finish the job and see this team come to fruition. if Aquaman is simply looking at points he clealry is not a good businessman because JB is setting this team up for a decade or more of runs at the cup. #re-signjb
