  1. but what are these places supposed to do when they can't hire anyone from here? close down? I totally agree that the min wage needs to be raised to a livable level, but until that day comes I don't see what choice many employers have beyond shutting their doors or hiring people in any way they can.
  2. how would you suggest making berry picking easier? the TFW program has been around for decades. Canadians don't do these jobs. So how is it that it keeps others getting low wages? you're not making sense King. I get this is a popular thing to bash, 1% and all that, but this is the reality of how we get a lot of our food so how much more are you willing to pay? are you going to Whole Foods everyday? Can you?
  3. did you ever watch him in those years? that intensity during their cup run was coke fuelled.
  4. its his call. Sometimes people don't fit in an organization, but some people just need to view someone as the bad guy in a situation. Dahlen was just not a good fit for this organization.
  5. that still won't solve the problem of cheap global labour. The real problems will start when you ask people to pay the full freight of our wages for their clothes and cell phones and food. $4,000 iphones and $5 bananas won't go over well. Of course people should be treated with fairness, but sometimes I wonder where people think things come from these days.
  6. I'm sure Benning was pretty disappointed in how things went, the last thing he would have wanted to do is trade Dahlen.
  7. yeah..... anyway, the temporary foreign worker program started in 1973. So you might want to re-do the math on prices you're used to, or people on regular working wages can afford.
  8. thats really it, and has been since before most of us on CDC were alive. Of course if the Aquilini family is guilty of this its horrible and must be punished, but that doesn't change the reality of farming in Canada. Maybe some people didn't know where their fruit comes from?
  9. so go buy a $30 bag of blueberries if thats what you want. It is what it is, if you really care this much about it vote in a party that wants to raise farming wages.
  10. no one gets pushed out of these jobs, no one who is raised here will do them. Migrant labour has been part of Canadian farming for decades.
  11. I wouldn't buy a used car from him but I like Weisbrod's comments on picking BPA.
  12. who's this guys agent? good for him tho, he was always warming the bench for Demko but seemed like a decent guy.
  13. the right thing to do here is wait for the facts and whatever legal actions come from this.
  14. I think you should put "alleged" in the title and wait for all the evidence before passing judgment. I doubt we know everything yet.
  15. If I'm counting right, 15 guys have played 100 or more games, but boy does it ever thin out after 16th oa (other than DeBrincat). No one out of the 7th played a single game yet so we shouldn't feel too bad here. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2016e.html
  16. so just to add more intrigue. Canucks management considered an Eriksson for Lucic trade: report Trading Loui Eriksson for Milan Lucic isn’t just a wild trade proposal you hear from callers to sports talk radio stations, it’s something that Vancouver Canucks management may have considered. This is according to Jason Gregor, a reporter with TSN 1200 in Edmonton, during a Tuesday morning interview on the Halford and Brough Show on TSN 1040. “I heard from a really good source that Jim Benning and his staff did sit down and discuss a Loui Eriksson for Milan Lucic trade,” Gregor said. “That I’ve been told from a very good source that indeed that conversation happened.” https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-considered-lucic-eriksson-trade-oilers
  17. OK Tyson Barrie for our lotto protected 2020 1st.
  18. If Jim can move Loui or 1/2 of Loui's contract prior to free agency I'd like to see Panarin here. I love the top 6 options that gives us. Trouble is Loui isn't likely tradable until July 2nd.... so it would be a cap risk. But with 50 mil of cap space currently available starting in the 2020/21 season its maybe worth that risk.
  19. If we are going to trade the 10th, can it at least be for a top pairing D?
  20. I think that goes back to pre-confederation tbh. we're all collectively responsible too. Most people give it little thought, so politicians trot out shiny promises to get the job, and then - hopefully - do some of the actual things the country needs. We just dont give it the thought and time it deserves.
