  1. $$ and the opportunity is now I suppose. Edmonton has certainly upgraded on GM and coaching, thats for sure. Tippett doesn't have any more tools in the box than Hitch had to play with, so Holland has to get busy if that team is going to make steps, and thats not going to be easy. Hopefully we hear "I have a trade to announce" that gets us Edmonton's 8th
  2. this, and also whats to say the free agency situation will be any better for us a year or two from now? its always easier to get wingers in free agency than anything else, I'd prefer we keep drafting potential top pairing d this year.
  3. I hope Jim can turn this into more than just dead cap space, but I also hear what mil is saying above. Is it still OK for me to blame this all on Willie D?
  4. you have to admit, this is the weirdest run up to an election ever in Canada. CPC says they'll deficit spend for years. Trudeau is spending 10s of billions on the military. May wants to build a refinery. Someone spiked the water cooler.
  5. all fair points, mil. Sounds like Bob Mckenzie thinks there will be movement on Loui:
  6. don't forget that the prospect has some say in this too, particularly if their development curve is on the longer side.
  7. I think I disagree a bit there, I don't see any 'have to' in the situation. He's not a bad person the room by any accounts and still a serviceable player. I don't know that overpaid makes you someone that must be moved at all costs.

OJ should change his last name. If CDC heard Jim got us a new 6'3" 200 lb dman with his resume it would burn up the place

    Olli Juolevi | #48 | D

Good review article highlighting why we should all be excited about Juolevi: https://thecanuckway.com/2019/05/27/vancouver-canucks-misunderstood-matter-olli-juolevi/
  10. I'm not sure anyone would really get over something like this, pretty sure it would bother me for life.
  11. assuming the deal means Luc waives that NMC for expansion, what would you really be OK with in return if Loui E is going the other way tho? I'm seeing more comments about people being OK with a player swap.
  12. I think you're correct mil, there's just not going to be a return for the Oil here. IF, and its a big IF, there was a sensible reason to swap Loui for Lucic, would you expect some assets to come with Lucic? or would you be fine on the 1:1.
  13. yeah cable news isn't much use if you're looking for information I'll grant you that. Info-tainment a lot of the time. But I'm sure you'd agree that there's a lot of right wing populism going on too that is just as full of BS as the lefty stuff. I personally think you're going to far on the gov't stats thing. So if we're left with first-hand: My wife has family in Italy and a cousin in Turkey. I haven't heard of them having any concerns, they seem much more concerned over things like Italy going bankrupt from 30 years of financial mismanagement. My sister in law is from South Africa, her bro and his wife were tied up and robbed at their farm I guess about 10 years ago or so, pretty horrific experience for them. Not sure what that has to do with migration but they also didn't go alt-right, they just moved to Australia and started a fishing tour boat business. I think we have to go back and find some statistics sources that you can trust to go much father than this.
  14. did you mean two 2nd's coming with him? There's no way anyone gives up significant assets to get him, that has to be pure media speculation. If he waves his NMC I'm sure people could live with swapping him for Loui. But to give up picks makes no sense.
  15. I'm not detouring I'm providing some context. Fear mongering over migrants have been a thing for a very long time. There's nothing new going on here. I think to have a meaningful discussion I'd need to know your ground rules for what you would consider valid info, so we don't dance around in circles. It appears, and i could be wrong on this, that you give more weight to sources that have a controversial edge to them, or are banned somewhere, etc. vs. something like government stats. So unless you can tell me what you'd accept as valid there's no point in trading links.
  16. but basic stats are the basic facts. You said 'where are all the women' and I told you. The reality of migrant work is a fact. And this story has been recycled for decades every time a new wave of workers came in. And our countries have grown and profited from that labour. None of that is up for debate.
  17. I don't know that you can, but lets just not let it get so out of hand that we make policy or do something as utterly dense as Brexit. The meme says "I see invaders" - well I see "construction workers" so unless you want to start going with child labour yeah you're going to see migrant men go in groups to find work. Its been like that in the west for over 100 years. Men travel where the work is, but now thats supposed to be seen as an "invasion"? Its perverse.
  18. No one's trying to "hush" you but when you post stuff like that and suggest you see the pov I think it helps to perpetuate the harmful myths about whats going on over there. The actual numbers are about 54% men 46% women (see p7 https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/pdfscache/1275.pdf). Do you really think the meme you posted reflects that? Or is that a picture of migrant men going off to work and/or find work, something thats happened in western countries for 100 years or so? Go down to VYR or YYC this morning and you can find areas of the airports just for migrant workers and take your own scary photo of "just men" and make a meme, if thats your thing. The reason there's a "lack" of women in the photo is the photographer chose not to take and post a photo of the 46% women in the migrant wave. I'm not going to get into the rape thing in the EU with you, thats been debunked over and over and yet it lives on. You can go find the facts on that if you care to go look.
  19. Some people are trying to get over $500 on stub hub for draft tickets

I have the very best seats possible....in my living room in front of a big screen TV. I can see way more from the broadcast than I could ever see from the stands. Now if Vancouver had the first overall pick, I might think about it, but big bucks for a 10th overall? Nope.

  20. yeah thats one of the worst memes I've seen posted on CDC. Its just flat out misleading and that other word..... c'mon @189lb enforcers? you can do better than that stuff.
  21. its a nice idea and at 7.5 x 8 years I don't think any GM would say no to that. He'd be 30 when the deal was up, so you'd statistically be getting the best of him and there wouldn't be any NMC/NTC clauses either (like PKs contract e.g.) so I'd expect his agent would be looking for something a bit higher than 7.5.
