If Marky can pick up where he left off this is a disaster of a deal for us. People need to stop making "Loui is garbage so lets trade for new garbage" threads. I haven't seen a single one that makes sense for us.

I wonder if there will ever be a Godwin's Law involving Trump's name some day in the future?

true, and some folks are born into harder situations than others. @BananaMash said it all very well i think.

If the Benn stuff is really true, thats the overpaid deal Jim should go after. Benn-Pettersson-Boeser is a legit top 10 1st line. If that did happen it may actually be worth hanging on to Loui for an extra year since the only other move would likely be for a mid-tier defence upgrade. Loui can help on the PK, and fill in on the LW while Roussel is recovering, or maybe even on Bo's RW if the spark of offence we saw at the end of last year is actually a thing. Taking on Lucic just doesn't fit the bill. Maybe pre-Holland if we could have got Chiarelli to do something dumb like give us the 8th oa, but thats not going to happen, Holland isn't going to make that his legacy.

its fascinating tho all the different strings it pulls for people, isn't it?

but you did care enough to comment

I guess because his body was ready before his brain? I think its all mental with Jake, at some point the switch will flip and he'll really start imposing his will on teams. Hopefully thats next year.

^^^ a year of patience will pay off big time with this kid. Let him develop properly.

because medical science views biological sex and gender as different things? why else? (you can look this up on the APA and WHO and many other credible sites on your own if you wish). Take out the other social constructs like politics and religion and its clear we don't exist in a state as black and white as many people seem to need to believe.

"Canada" i.e. the federal government doesn't make those decisions - all those decisions are made by each province separately.

I think it could certainly be unfair. But no this isn't a slippery slope straight to hell or all of female sport being ruined. Its an issue that I'm sure can be worked out. There's an interesting thing going on right now with a female South African track star, she's born female biologically, but she has very high testosterone. So the IOC has decided that she has to chemically reduce her testosterone levels to continue to compete. Doesn't that seem silly as well? https://www.wired.com/story/caster-semenya-and-the-twisted-politics-of-testosterone/ She's just naturally the way she is and has a supposed advantage. Just like Phelps had with his unusually low lactic acid production, apparently he only produces 1/2 of what other swimmers do giving him a massive advantage. So why didn't they chemically up Phelps lactic acid production? I don't know what the right answer is, but I do know taking this debate to a place where people even question someone's nature is wrong. These folks exist, they're part of the human spectrum, and they have rights. But so does everyone else. Its not easy.

yeah I saw that, that was a bomber hissy fit. For sure there is a discussion that needs having on sport, its not like its a person applying for a regular job, e.g. Sport is probably the one of the few, maybe only, area where you could build an argument for exclusion, but it would have to be done with some care. Maybe some sports open to any athletes is the best way to go? dunno.

The genetics of sex are not that simple - there are variants to that: https://www.who.int/genomics/gender/en/index1.html Also, you are making a common mistake and equating sex and gender. They are not the same thing. If you're really interested read the link above and also this one from the APA: https://www.apa.org/topics/lgbt/transgender I've posted this info before in other discussions on this, I'm not interested in a political-type or Ben Shaprio based discussion on it, the scientific view is easy to find if you're actually interested.
-
these threads always end up in the same place. There's no point in having them.
-
if you bothered to check the scientific thinking on trans issues you'd see that it doesn't agree with you. And that other stuff is just silly.

No to Bo moving on. But I'd much rather have Benn at 9.5 than Lucic at 6. We can't afford full market value, we don't have the assets, but if things are really soured beyond fixing maybe this? Swap 1st round picks, Dallas gets a nice upgrade from 18 to 10 and we still get a good prospect. Then maybe Virtanen and a quality prospect like Lind. I don't know that gets it done but thats maybe the best we could actually afford without setting back the rebuild.

I don't think thats a thing anymore, they're trying to develop a new ski hill together.

apparently you haven't read your Greek Classics. They knew how to party.

he is worth that much - to us. He's exceeded his early projection by a mile imo, 3rd line C I believe was the general consensus. Now he's a 60 pt player who's a face-off beast. No way we give him up for just one pick. O'Reilly was worth a 1st, 2nd and three C's and Bo is in his tier of players, and he's 4 years younger. And with a great cap hit. Then there's all the leadership intangibles, etc. Having said that, trading our next captain would be a mistake.

I suppose you could look at Podkolzin with Petey's line as well, but then you're moving Boeser off Petey's line. It will be a heck of an interesting training camp if this kid falls to us. Don't know what we do with Goldy in that case.

If you ask most people they'd agree with that statement, yet we allow ourselves to get BS'd over and over for the last few decades. Why? well for home owners, its kind of exciting to see that equity number keep going up, and heck whats another few grand on that line of credit when your house price doubles in 4 years eh? so we're complicit in the thing that way. And getting into major household debt too - thats the thing thats going to come back to really hit us hard sooner than later, once the home equity starts to drop in a big way those lines of credit now become huge anchors you can't get out from under. Scary times ahead on that front. We have to vote differently, we have to vote in people that recognize what you're talking about, and if they don't do it we need to get off our asses and protest like they did pre-1970s. Maybe crushing household debt will be the driver for that. I still believe in the system and that there are good people out there who want to change things for the better. Once we've done all we can as voters and citizens I think you'll see major change. -
If you're correct on Podkolzin there's a spot waiting for him with Bo. It would certainly accelerate things to be able to pick up one of the 4 or 5 guys who could play in the NHL next year. I doubt we'll be able to move up this year, we just don't have the assets but it sure feels like we're going to get a solid player falling to us again.

I'm going to challenge you on that Phil. The lack of interest in major protests is a relatively recent thing in Canada. Just a little slice of the history: https://ccla.org/timeline-protests-canada/ More recently I'd say Idle No More had a significant impact. We have become sheep like with how we deal with our politicians, we let them get away with the same old bag of tricks and that is on us to step up and make a difference. Part of it is how good we've had it as a society for the last 30 years, and I think some of it has bled into online activities so while you don't see it on the streets there are things going on.
