honestly with the string of AB premier's taking jabs at BC there's no other way things could turn out. There's no partnership view at all, never has been.
-
let me guess, the prevailing thought there is "Trudeau made me do it?" Its a pretty sad statement, you live in a country where AB has thrived beyond almost every place on earth and 50% of you hate Canada enough to leave. Tell me again where the problem is?

the only thing ripped about Kessel was the bread going into his cheese dip. But he's a great example of pure shooting skills and he's managed to figure out where he needs to get to most of the time to be effective. Boeser is what an athletic Kessel would have looked like.
-
good point - outside of a roadblock he'd be tough to catch.
-
that would probably be part of it. But really, someone has to figure out how to get us all to the table as partners. Continuing on the current path just won't work imo. Maybe China and the US crushing us economically will force us to the table.
-
yeah thats on the table apparently. But would't that guarantee to get you $&!# kicked in oil country? https://electrek.co/guides/tesla-pickup-truck/
-
electric whales maybe. No just more incentives for greener cars. Where we really need it is semi's - both Tesla and Daimler are introducing electric semi's within 2 years. Its mostly short haul / in town applications but thats where a huge piece of the emissions comes from.
-
wait... are you saying you like the pucks now?
-
its complex - emissions per person have trended way down, but emissions from vehicles has bumped up a bit which is where most of the uptick is. More people driving more cars. Which is why we need more hybrid and electric cars in BC if we want to get the trend back the right way. If you check the graphs pretty much everything else is flatline for emissions so things are as efficient everywhere else. http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/soe/indicators/sustainability/ghg-emissions.html

yeah the link I posted to this site is fun to look at, I don't mind the stats guys when its something based on reality vs. the really contrived "analysis". Look up Lucic if you have a minute and want to gag/laugh. -

plus its a massive hole that needs to be filled. Why go out and spend massive cap dollars when you have a LW candidate to try on the team right now? I don't know if Jake has the iq for the job... but maybe Petey has enough for the whole line? It could be a pretty simple formula, Jake drives hard to the net, makes space for Petey and Brock. If Jimbo can steal Kapanen from TO maybe this would be a dynamic enough top 6? Looking at how other younger teams are having success this looks as good to me as Carolina if Jake can get into the 20 goal range. Pearson-Bo-Kapanen Jake-Petey-Boeser -

I like looking at these shot maps, I think as "fancy stats" go these are some of the more useful tools: https://www.icydata.hockey/players/2063/jake-virtanen One thing I think you'll find interesting is Jake had better success off wing - this is where his goals came from: For Jake, he's taking too many low % shots - something that I heard over and over from game day threads and good ol eye test. If he can dial that in a bit more he could have a really good season next year. He's such a powerful skater I don't think many d can stop him. -
whats the point of this bet? Benning said OJ was next to be called up to the NHL before his knee injury.
-
the way more interesting thing imo is looking back a year from now at what Stevie Y does to fix Detroit and what Holland does to fix the Coilers. Thats going to be a heck of a comparison.

(Speculation) 3 way trade to land PK Suban

Boston got through on less talent and more swagger imo. They just don't get phased. Part of that is the old guys but they're also built better on the 3rd and 4th lines. IMO the Canucks are a hard team to evaluate over the last 5 years in part because I think Linden had a lot of loyalty to former team mates and I think a mistaken belief that there was still a window building around the Sedins, and maybe a lot of inexperience too. If you really wanted to build one more run around the twins, why the hell would you bring in Wille D and not an experienced coach, e.g.? I think this team was pretty bipolar under Linden, i.e. the "competitive rebuild" idea where competitive meant playoff appearances vs. just trying to play hard every night like we see now (which does build the right culture). I think we need to evaluate the actual rebuild as pre-and-post Linden for it to make any sense. Thats why I see this off-season as so important, there should be a very clear direction now and if Jim can make some good moves it sets the team up well. If not.... -

I think we can criticize the Laffs all on their own, we don't need to compare it to the Canucks, just the Laffs own stated goals. Yes of course the F group has some incredible talent. But they haven't put together a d group thats more than bottom 1/3 league quality. They needed to move Nylander for defensive talent and not only failed to do so, they created a major cap issue with that contract. They also have some unmovable objects in Marleau (who had a $&!# playoff series) and Zaitsev and they have very little room to make any d upgrades for next season. But after next season things do open up for them so you might be correct 2 seasons from now assuming they don't make any more signing blunders. They've created a very fragile team. If they get closer to a team that can make it out of the 1st round you'll have a good argument but they are not there yet. As for us, I do think this is a make or break off-season for Benning. He's unencumbered by Linden (if that was ever a thing) and its all his show. I do think there are a number of moves he could make to really improve the team but we'll see. -

Yeah calling out a ref pretty much sealed it. Kadri was dumb enough to tip things enough to cost TO the series. Boston had no one to worry about and had easier matchups after dumbos suspension. We dont need a guy like that. -
'seller from the start' - that's the problem with your arguement, Jim never had that mandate

Might as well give Kadri Burr's old number 14 just to make it easy on the ref's to call penalties. Kadri is exactly the type of player we don't need. He's an idiot. We'd be giving up Jake for nothing. -
I'm not defending Horgan, just explaining what i think the perception of his pipeline fight is. Yes of course there's some issues with using AB oil while fighting how its exported through BC, but AB isn't helping itself at all. AB politicians have taken a belligerent stance with BC for many years now. They've been trying to force their will on BC with literally zero attempts at any kind of shared partnership particularly the risk side. So now that approach coming home to roost. I'm not surprised in the least that Horgan is both fighting to see where the legal boundaries are and that many people support him for it. And Black's refinery idea also show that pipelines are not the only way of getting this done. He wants to bankroll a refinery using bitumen pellets, which is the safest thing for everyone. But you'll get no end of people from AB telling you thats impossible.
