  1. I have some concerns about him - both Colorado and Ottawa were happy to part with him. Could be totally unfounded but I think we can get speed elsewhere for a lot less. July 2nd is going to be an interesting day.... I wonder if Jim is going to be able to move Loui then?
  2. wow nice message from Petey. My dad's business partner died at nearly the same age with a young family too, I really feel for the kids, its going to be tough.
  3. yeah i can go for that approach, as long as who we're getting is on a level you can think of as elite or a game changer, and many of the guys you mention are in that category. I've caught all but 1 of CBJs playoff games specifically to watch Panarin, and man the idea of Hughes having a passing option to Panarin or Petey is drool worthy.
  4. actually I think we just need to have more insurance to cover spill costs, maybe paid based on something objective like percentage of royalties received by all oil and gas activity. So for sake of argument (I haven't looked up the firm #'s) say 50% paid by the feds, 12% by AB, 13% by BC, etc. Like a partnership approach.
  5. true but I bet a deal could be in place prior to that we just wouldn't know about it publicly. Man the timing of the draft and free agency really can throw a wrench into things.
  6. I can understand that, we've had a couple of solid players come out of that competition. But no game changers. If we're able to pick some up in trades, maybe waivers, etc. sure OK. But I feel its time to use free agency for much bigger impact.
  7. if somehow Jim were able to move Loui first, and we got the 8th oa back with Looch, I think I'd be fine with it. There's probably a compliance buyout window coming but lucky for us, Edmonton can't wait that long.
  8. why can't we have nice things?
  9. yeah I know, I'm just feeling super greedy for a 2nd top 10 pick.
  10. so thats why the bear looks so angry.
  11. but what if the deal came with him waiving for expansion as part of the deal? And what if it included the #8 oa? And moving Sutter the other way, no salary retained? huh? what then?
  12. I really think the opportunity there is in a trade with one of the 5 or 6 very cap crunched teams. We can retain on Sutter or Tanev and get a solid RFA back.
  13. well, I don't think the idea is weird it makes a lot of sense to me to just keep developing, or trading and if we can't land a true impact player just stay the course. No more middlin' players.

I mean, given that he currently plays in Edmonton..

Usual media stirring up stuff to get ratings.

Might help if Edmonton got a GM first.

For league minimum... Maybe... Hard maybe... Still leaning towards no.

  14. its a fascinating and potentially incredibly divisive idea. But..... if that were backed by the federal infrastructure bank, AND it included a Norway-style fund approach that was designated in very large part for the benefit of all first nations in Canada I'd be supportive of it.
  15. yup there's never ever been an actual overture of partnership. The reply is "we don't have to" and "Canada's coast" and belligerent things like that. They don't seem to get that they are part of the problem. Its like oil blinders.
  16. 11 sets the bar higher for Petey too. But I don't know if he'll actually command that. 9 for sure. I do see your point tho, just have too many concerns over injury and age with EK. Although pirate pack night would be fun.
  17. Stones a decent comparable tho, very similar production: https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_compare.php?players[]=4256&players[]=2898&period=2018-2019%3AR%3A99 Stone brings a physical element Panarin doesn't, but damn Panarin is creative and for a small player unafraid of the net.
  18. interesting. I kind of view offer sheets like trades since there's a defined player cost but that would certainly stack up the offence.
  19. my brother in law used to live up in Williams Lake. Not a crowd i'd go looking to piss off thats for sure I just see the whole AB stance as so unnecessary and based on mythology. If they came to the table with the intention of a real partnership so much of this could be avoided.
  20. anything based on oil revenue, he can't. He can do the bluster promises tho.
  21. that ankle worries me... how long can he really play? plus I think SJS are going to make a solid pitch for him. Panarin gives us a legit top 6 playing with either Petey or Bo. Yes we need better defence but I think we can do well in the trade market with so many stacked teams hitting cap walls.
  22. Looking around this years free agent class, I'm starting to think that almost no one is worth the inevitable overpayment that will be needed to land someone, that is other than Panarin. Panarin imo is the only true game-breaker player of the bunch that has a chance to play that way for years to come. Erik Karlsson would obviously be an immediate right side upgrade, but how much time does that ankle have left on it? Of all the rest, including Myers, the 2nd tier F group, I don't see the cap implications as worth the upgrades. I still think Jim can and should look at the trade market, but for this free agency I'd like it if he went big or went home. Thoughts?
  23. thats what the polls say, a slim majority. Which will evaporate if Kenney follows through with the taps threat. Its probably the #1 most impactful thing he could do to turn soft support in BC against him.
