The UCP Alberta Government - Threatens to Turn off Oil Taps
JM_ replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
lets see.... 40 years of PC rule pissed away billions and let things like healthcare slip to "B" ratings compared to the rest of Canada. Hey I know, lets make a system that locks these guys in forever! ah well, it will be funny to watch Kenney go ape $&!# over Trudeau, thats going to help the Liberals this fall when they look at Kenney and Ford -

and they want to give the con's the keys again? what have they done to show they wouldn't make the same mistakes? -
Put Eriksson on the 2nd line with Pearson and Horvat. Yay or nay?
JM_ replied to Hindustan Smyl's topic in Canucks Talk
but that long look with Bo and Pearson, was that just to make Loui more tradable? could be. At least we know what to expect out of Loui, as you say good PK, probably in the 10 goal 30 pt range, not a bad floor. And he's better than Lucic. -

thats not really the case tho. On 5 on 5 line combo's with Bo+Pearson and EP+Goldy Loui had 10 pts, which was 38% of his ice time. On the other 8 bottom 6 line combos he was on, he has 9 points. So he can produce at a higher rate on the top 6. If that top 6 production holds, and some scoring off the 2nd unit PP, he might get to 40 pts. https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/players/loui-eriksson -

man I hope that really applies to a small % of Albertans whats troubling to me is seeing people say 'oh well the UCP aligns with my values' - but if those values allow you to side with racists and people that cheat and lie to win party leaderships, what good are your values? at what point do you stop saying 'my values' and think a little bit? I'd prefer it if some of these folks just admit it and say the UCP aligns with their wallets, and stop pretending that Kenney has values, he doesn't. -

thats a good point. But I guess the question is, can we survive the turnovers enough to generate 2nd line offence? you know how it is Alf, there's the people you want and then there's the people you have in an organization. I don't really see a significant upgrade on the 2nd line RW in the current group tbh. Would Leivo or Jake produce more? dunno, maybe a little? I'm going with a management philosophy here of "first who, then what" yeah its not ideal, but whats the best with what you've got? I suppose 10 goals 25-30 points on the bottom 6 for Loui isn't the worst option, its better than a buyout or some kind of horrible trade just to move him. -

Loui doesn't really need to be fast on that line, just make quality passes and hang back while they go dig out the puck. Its hard to judge by end of year competition but that was the best Loui looked in a long time and Pearson did find his game again on that line too. Its possible that there's good chemistry there. -

yay-be? That line looked very good for the last 10 games of the year. So there could be something there. It makes sense if 1) we can't find a trade partner for Loui on a reasonable deal, and 2) we can't find a RW option in free agency. We don't need more middle-6 RWs, so there aren't many top line RWs available in free agency that would be coming here. Barring any major trades its a good thing to begin the year with, if they can pick up where they left off it would be good for everyone. -
[Speculation] Canucks Likely to push for Gardiner on July 1st
JM_ replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think I'm reacting strongly to it because the guys on 650 seem to be really pushing the idea simply based on the fact the guy can make a decent pass - lets set the bar a little higher I just see too many signals that this could be an anchor contract. I loved the Loui signing at the time, it didn't look risky, but now it is what it is. To me Gardiner has far more potential problems pending so i would just prefer we go with what we have on the left side in the system. -
Which player has impressed you in the playoffs so far

Barzal. And Trotz should be a candidate for coach of the year too. -

that article is hardly a case for signing him for big dollars and term. We don't need more help on suppressing shot attempts, we need defence that can move the puck out of our zone and contribute to scoring without being defensive liabilities. We do not need Gardiner for that, at all. All you have to do is look at his basic goal scoring numbers and actually watch him play. He's meh. Mashed potatoes without the gravy. He doesn't bring anything that Huges or Edler won't and he's not nearly good enough to block Juolevi's path to the NHL. He also happens to be a giveaway machine. And he's been doing this on a dynamic high scoring team. No one would think Gardiner is the reason the Leafs have good possession numbers or can score. We don't need to overpay for a guy who turns 29 next year, we'll get his declining years for so-so impact. I hope this is all media driven BS, this is the last guy we need on this team. -

JB: I’ll make the phone call about the 1st overall pick
JM_ replied to Generational.EP40's topic in Canucks Talk
depends how competitive that offer sheet makes us. If its a top pairing d RFA I'd consider it, if those picks were likely to be in the bottom 1/3 of the draft. I think losing those picks for a star d is better than some of the trades proposed here involving Boser, picks, and Bo. One of those 1st's is worth a d prospect alone. -

JM_ replied to Generational.EP40's topic in Canucks Talk
Based on what it would take to get Jack, we might as well look to do an offer sheet in the 8-10 mil range that costs us 2 1sts, a 2nd and 3rd for a player we target -

Goldy would have been better defensively than Flamingo-boy last night. -

and you want to make it.. more fragile? Why no Gardiner? He's not a good goal scorer. Career high of 9 - 3 years ago. Otherwise he scores goals at a Stecher-like rate. Yes he has years with decent assist numbers but nothing we don't already have in Edler, who scores more goals. One high assist year on a high scoring team is no reason to bring him here. He's average at best defensively, on his best days. He doesn't bring grit, hit much or is particularly speedy. He'll be expensive. And lock up valuable term and cap for our core youth. Hughes is already a far superior passer. And you have Hutton playing the right side to make space for him. Huh? Did I miss anything? -

yup this would be a very good move for the organization. There's been interest from Aquilini for years so this seems like the time to make another offer.
-
Ok, color me intrigued. I'll have to learn more about him.
-
dunno... our euro scouts would have to be very very high on him. Or just high.
-
nope. But we could maybe poach Kapanen if we also take Marleau, or Nylander and some picks if we take Zaitsav.
-
its a job risk pick for Jim, it would have to pay off right away. Any indication he could play here next season?
